Words cannot describe the magical and delightful stay my wife and I had at DBTR. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Darryn and Liz (our hosts) and immediately felt at home. This property is an amazing oasis in the area outside of Benson, AZ. They welcomed us, and immediately escorted us into the BandB side of the property. It has an amazing common area complete with pool table, shuffleboard table, and a really comfy and cozy TV area with DirecTV and a HUGE library of DVDs. The dining area has a giant 12-seat antique table and comfortable chairs next to the kitchen (where Liz works her breakfast magic!) The 4 themed rooms are located in 2 separate hallways, far enough apart to make it feel very private. The Cowboy and Bird rooms have private patios, which provide a nice place for morning coffee if desired. With the exterior walls being 1 foot thick, there was no noise or disturbance at all in our room (we stayed in the Cowboy Room, which was very comfortable and cozy). Throughout the property, Darryn and Liz have done a fantastic job of decorating with all kinds of unique items from their around-the-world travels and their interests. We were fascinated by all the details and fun items in all the areas throughout the property. The common outdoor space was relaxing, comfortable and quiet. There is also a breezeway common area with a TV and big fireplace that is very welcoming. The property is located in a unique weather area that brings wonderful cool evening breezes after the warm days. It was heavenly to sit outside and enjoy the evenings. Both Darryn and Liz offered an abundance of recommendations for things to see and do in nearby Tombstone and Bisbee (definitely a place to see), and provided a very interesting description of the local area of St David and some history tidbits. I saved my description of the breakfast meals for last, as they were far beyond our expectations. Each morning, Darryn ensured there was plenty of coffee and then made smoothies for us prior to breakfast. Liz then worked her mojo (I'd love to have her kitchen skills) and created culinary masterpieces each morning! I won't spoil the surprise with meal descriptions, as you need to experience them for yourself. She made sure she addressed any food concerns by asking us if there were any food allergies, sensitivities, or dislikes (which we had none). Bottom line - we hated to leave. We are definitely returning to this wonderful place, and next time it will be for a longer stay. I absolutely recommend this property and assure you that you are not going to be disappointed! Thank you Darryn and Liz!

Had another great time at Down By The River B&B! This was our second visit and we can't wait to head back. Darryn and Liz are amazing hosts and make you feel at home as soon as you step in the door. The rooms are spacious and vibrant. The bed was extremely comfortable. Our room had a private fridge and coffee maker. You are completely accommodated at DBTR. And then there's the food...In what can only be described as gastro gourmet, you will be greeted with a morning smoothie and full breakfast. Liz's cooking skills are unmatched!! After breakfast sit on the terrace, read a book, and watch the birds. Go explore the surroundings around southern AZ. DBTR is a great getaway for all! Thanks again Darryn and Liz, we'll be back!!

This was an unexpected desert SURPRISE! Truly the meaning of a hidden gem. The owners are FANTASTIC hosts. The perfect and eclectic range of colors, nick nacks and furniture. You immediately feel at home when you cross the threshold. I spent my weekend disconnected from EVERYTHING. Left my phone in my room and just enjoyed all the B&B had to offer. Simply sitting in the back yard and enjoying nature was the highlight of my days there. Who knew the desert could be so beautiful. The place does have wifi for those of you who can't live w/out being connected to the rest of the world. Liz (owner) is a wonderfully FABULOUS cook! Hugs 'friend'. Truly amazing breakfasts. The rooms (thr are 4 themed rooms) have their own decor and private bathrooms. Wonderfully appointed and VERY comfortable beds. You have your own refrigerator in your room and coffee. Darryn (owner) has 2 off road vehicles and may take you on a tour of the area, there are so many trails. (extra charge), but well worth it. The town of St David is small and the people are simple and very nice. They definitely beat to the sound of their own drum - which is refreshing. Take it all in. Easy drive from Tucson airport (45-50 mins) The town was just opening up when I was there and people seemed eager to welcome the influx of tourists that pass through. It's a cowboy town. A little left behind the time times, but done so on purpose. This is small town America at its finest.
