My friend and I stayed with Tom and Alicia for a few days during Christmas time. Tom and Alicia absolutely made us felt at home. We had a Christmas dinner together with their family and Tom even taught me a few cooking tricks. The ranch has both big horses for riding and miniature horses. On a good weather day, you can do some horseback riding. There are a few trails close to the ranch. If you are looking for a place far away from civilization, I definitely recommend staying with Tom and Alicia.

I spent two nights at DD Gamble Guest Lodge and had a great time there. At a B&B you might get a cooked breakfast, this place is so much more, it is a B & B & L & D. You get breakfast, lunch and dinner. Actually I skipped the lunch, although it was offered, since the breakfast and expected dinner were so sumptuous. The two dinners and two breakfasts I had there were outstanding! I went on a several hour ATV ride up the canyon with Tom the proprietor and he was full of stories about the history of the region. The place also offers other "dude ranch" type activities that I skipped out on since I was "just passing through" and simply wanted to see and explore the area. This was a great place to stop and spend some time. I hope to return.

I am a biologist and have been doing research in the Portal AZ are for 15 years. I usually stay at the Research Station, but this time I tried something different--and boy am I glad I did! Tom and Alicia are about the best you are going to get. They treated me and my two children like family. Tom took me out for a long horse ride and showed me the most beautiful canyon I have ever seen. And they are master cooks! Tom and Alicia have mastered the art of hosting. They leave you alone when they think you need it and they are there with you when you need that too. If you are going to the Portal area, you will not do better than the DD Gamble.

I am a field Producer for a TV production company and we were lucky enough to be put in touch with Tom and Alicia to scout locations for our TV series. We REALLY lucked out. They are both incredibly kind, resourceful and knowledgable hosts. They tolerated our endless requests for different types of locations, animals, people and ultimately hosted us for a pretty epic shoot. We were able to shoot camping scenes, riding scenes, treasure hunting scenes in mine shafts, all in areas that looked as though they were in the middle of nowhere, but were actually 5 minutes from food and shelter. They put us in touch with people to source stunt tarantulas and rappelling crews and even organized a Cattle stampede for cameras - really went beyond the call of duty. The accommodations were very comfortable, and the Food!! The food was truly amazing. They catered 3 meals a day to our 22 strong crew (which included vegans and vegetarians) and it was the best food we had for the whole shoot. On top of that, their remote location was the perfect place to sit outside, and watch the heat lightning, rippling across a perfect starlit sky - a very transportive experience. Thanks again guys! I look forward to seeing you again in the future xx

I totally LOVED the D&D Gamble Ranch. First are the hosts...you couldn't meet more warm and accommodating people. Cute as a button! Their ranch hand Andrew is a man beyond his young years. Entertaining, "wicked smart", and very easy-going. I went on many a ride with him, and he kept it interesting and safe. Second ,is the ranch itself. Totally above and beyond what I ever dreamed! Each and every room was authentic and decorated so well, with the luxuries of wi-fi and central air. Third, is the ranch animals. A very well managed and top notch group of horses, that were not only gorgeous to look at but very friendly. And lets not forget their cows,4 Great Danes, 5 cats, and the other wildlife you may see! Last, and not least was the experience...beyond my expectations. I felt as if I was in heaven. Having a very busy life in NY, this the most relaxed I've felt in years! I urge anyone to take the chance, and go to one of the best ranches in the West. You will never forget it!!!!

Thank you for your very kind words. We are happy that you could relax with us. As the days went by, you became more relaxed than the previous day. That was probably because of your "spa days" on horseback. Another reason for your relaxation was probably our lack of cell reception. You really unplugged from New York! Andrew enjoyed teaching and riding with you. We look forward to seeing you again and meeting your son on your next visit
