Great place and central location. Stayed here twice, and it was great both times. Good for a solo or a couples trip. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Lots of places to eat and drink within walking distance. Also, if you are meeting up with people its probably central for them too.
There are a LOT of things to like about this hotel. My wife and I have stayed here a few times before, but not in a few years, and I enjoyed this one-night stay very much. First of all, the room was ready upon arrival, which is very important to me, because it’s just awkward when you have to sit around or find something to do when it’s not ready. Secondly, the front desk representative (I think it was Jennifer) was excellent. She really did make me feel welcome, accommodated my higher floor request, and in my case I had booked a second room for a friend, and she got my friend on the same floor as us. This was on a Saturday night where there’s a ballgame in town, too, so that was impressive. She was informative, friendly, and helpful, I liked the check-in experience. I was using IHG rewards points for this stay, and I have to say I was not treated like a second class citizen, as some hotels do when a guest uses points, or a third party site, to book. I truly felt valued. Not a corporate “we want our customers to feel valued” lip service kind of thing either, but I am serious, I really did feel like they valued me as a guest based on not only the check-in experience, but the entire stay. They have a text service for requests as some hotels do. That service only works if there are humans behind it that respond quickly and helpfully. And that was certainly the case here. They texted me shortly after I arrived in the room to see if I liked it. I thought that was a nice touch. And I DID like the room, VERY much. They put me on the top (10th) floor and the room had a great view of the mountains to the south. Now, how’s THAT for treating a guest redeeming points just like fully payin guests? See? But also I had a couple of questions during the stay that were answered quickly and helpfully. And you can use the text service to check out as well. The room itself was great. Not only did it have a view, but the bed was VERY comfortable. I liked the pillows, the mattress firmness, and even the nice padded headboard. Plus the edges of the bed were padded, so even if you do happen to stumble around at night and bump your leg on the bed, you’re not gonna get hurt. There’s a padded bench, a sizable one, below the window. So plenty of space to sit. I liked the little round clock radio that had a circular fluorescent light on the back, because at night it acted like a night light, it reflected off the wall behind it and did not annoy me during sleeping at all, it was just the right brightness. I know, people don’t get excited about clock radios but I really did think that was a cool feature. I liked the cage-style light fixture over the table, and the table itself was cool, it had like a Formica finish and a glass cover that I thought added a nostalgic touch to an otherwise modern room. TV size is very large. I didn’t watch it so I can’t comment on it, but the only minor drawback for a longer stay is no streaming. But I got the feeling you could bring your own streaming stick if you wanted to. Good closet space too. And the bathroom was great! I LOVED the shower, with the cool faux wood flooring, open half, great pressure, and quick to come to hot temperature. And this is key - enough racks to accommodate at LEAST two towels to hang up. So many hotels fail on this point, you have two people in a room and one of them has to settle for a spot where the towel really is not going to dry well at all. Very happy to be able to have two towel racks here. Particularly when there’s no housekeeping service, although they’ll bring you more towels, whatever you need, if you text them. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash all affixed to the wall, conveniently. And the body wash smelled great! It’s just nice when you can take a nice shower and feel refreshed on a hot summer Phoenix day. Location is great downtown, even though we’re not here for a sporting event. Several good restaurants nearby and there’s even a Fry’s grocery store JUST across the street! Valet guys were pretty good and self-parking seemed like it would be easy too. Door people were excellent, they opened them for us every time, with a smile and a welcoming attitude. The only area for improvement I could see is maybe add some USB ports near the beds or really anywhere. I mean, there are enough outlets to charge your devices with a power source, but I like the built-in ports. Also, I don’t think I ever got a notification from the IHG app that I was able to check in or that my room was ready, even though when I arrived and used the in-person front desk, it was ready. I would definitely stay here again. Very pleasant experience. They thought of a lot of nice touches.…
As a traveler who usually stays at Marriott properties, most recently a Residence Inn in blue-collar Massachusetts, I expected this place to be NICE. It's a hotel in the heart of Phoenix's (to me, rather unpleasant, but that's a different review!) downtown, attached to the landmark CityScape. But overall, I was unimpressed. The hotel bills itself as cozy/high-service/semi-luxe. I've actually never stayed at a Kimpton property -- or anywhere with a minibar -- and I had high expectations. (The price list also includes an "intimacy kit," which made me quite curious, but I couldn't find one in my room.) The room had quite a lot of wear and tear -- a chip in the desk under the glass, a lot of rubbing on one of the nightstands, and a worn-out desk chair that I would throw out in my own home. The bed wasn't especially comfortable, and there was a LOT of street noise -- the constant dinging of the light rail, the beeping of the crossing signals (accessible to the visually impaired/blind), traffic .... The shower is nice but didn't have much hot water when I showered late at night. The TV is very large but apparently doesn't allow streaming, so I wound up watching Netflix on my computer as if there were no TV. There is no coffee or tea in the room, and no way to make hot water. This was the most flummoxing thing to me. I had some afternoon down time and wanted a cup of herbal tea, so I went to the 2nd floor where some material said there was coffee, but all I found was a dispenser of water and a dispenser of iced tea (it was 50 degrees outside). I wound up using a tea bag I'd brought and hot water from the tap in a water glass in my room. I would have loved a little snack/coffee shop to grab coffee or a latte in the morning, but I don't think there is anything on-site (I didn't try the restaurant for quick pick-up-and-go). I was running late for my on-site meeting, so I didn't explore other options nearby outside the hotel. The bar/restaurant is nice (although it closes at 11 -- they turn on the lights like you're at a club), and the servers at the meeting I attended were conscientious and warm. I believe the rooftop pool area was still closed for renovations, and anyway it was too cold to be outside, so I can't speak to that amenity, which is highly promoted. Someone in the elevator with me had a great workout at the fitness center because he was drenched in sweat, lol. A few years ago, I stayed at the Courtyard in downtown Phoenix and enjoyed it more -- disappointed this did not exceed that expectation.…
I stayed here using one of my free cc Anniversary nights. From the time I entered until the time I left, I felt taken care of. When ai had trouble with the heat, Carissa took care of me and upgraded me to a very nice suite. I have traveled a great deal over the years, and having an amenity such as a bike, full breakfast amongst others at a downtown location in a major city is a treat. In these times of staff shortages and related economic challenges, staff could be non-accommodating, and although one of my experiences seemed to start that way during my one night stay, after a short checkin about this staff person’s day, the spirit of them changed. Sometimes it’s helpful to let those that make our lives enjoyable to know that they are appreciated. Thank you for an enjoyable experience. I will return.…
Stayed 3 nights and tipped each night housecleaning—on the third day I was out of the room for 9 hours at a business meeting when I returned discovered my room had not been cleaned. Asked front desk to clean it while out to dinner - two hours later returned to the same dirty room. Had to wait an additional 1/2 hour just for clean towels. Sad. Usually love Kimpton Hotels.
We flew into Phoenix in our way to Sedona. We need a place close to the airport but with stuff to do at night. This worked really well for us. The lobby is understated but the staff was very friendly and helpful recommending places for dinner. They gave us a room with a view of the mountains. The room was clean and even had a yoga matt. The bathroom was very large with a nice shower. We were very happy with our stay. The best part was the fitness center was a full gym. Breakfast was very good at the Breakfast Club.
Fabulous, beautiful hotel only four miles from Phoenix Airport. Right in the middle of loads of bars and restaurants. The baseball stadium is a five-minute walk away. Bowling, a comedy club, and other venues are all around. A big Fry’s grocery store is right on the corner. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and immaculate. Bed linens and pillows are very high quality. The shower is fantastic. There’s a terrific pool (with food and bar service) and a totally relaxed atmosphere. Can’t wait until the pool bar is renovated, although the temporary tiki bar is perfectly good substitute for now! There are amenities like I’ve never seen at a hotel. As an IHG reward member I was entitled to a full breakfast in the lovely hotel restaurant, and a complimentary late checkout of 2:00 PM. All guests are invited to a daily, complimentary social hour with wine, nibbles, and a specialty cocktail. The hotel also offers record players and a selection of vinyl records to play in your room. Too cute! Is it all that wasn’t enough, the staff are all really sensational. Special shout out to Cody who was truly extraordinary, and a stellar receptionist. If only every hotel I stayed and was this amazing. I will be back the next time I’m in Phoenix!!!…
In a time where hospitality has been lost due to staff shortage and so many other variables, this Kimpton gives me great hope that hotels are still able to offer superior service. I’m a huge critic as a hotel associate myself. This team is amazing! Tommy makes amazing drinks & is super personable & Carissa, Cody, & Jennifer will make sure you have everything you need to make your stay great! I absolutely love that they use the texting application to welcome you & it’s available to communicate with their staff any time. Their valet staff greet you when you get to the building and send you on your way when you’re headed out. Everyone is truly so friendly! Their guest rooms are solid! Very comfortable, well appointed, and so clean! Their bath amenities are outstanding as well. I was sad when I showered after leaving the hotel & realized I didn’t get an extra lotion for home. The smell of fig in their lotion is wonderful! I truly can’t say enough about the staff at this hotel. Kimpton has certainly found the best of the best!…
Great hotel and staff! Front desk staff really went above and beyond to make sure everything went well. Full Gym is 2-minute walk from the front door. Room was very clean! Loved the restaurant in the hotel. Will return the next time I’m in Phoenix.
Customer service and location were fantastic like always. I’ve stayed in this hotel multiple times and I have never been disappointed. The family enjoyed the rooftop pool and bar. Close to bars, restaurants, footprint center, chase field, etc.....
