My high rating does not make it comparable to a more upscale and expensive hotel chain place. It is earned by a clean functional room, great location to Downtown, free WiFi and parking and breakfast, frig and microwave in room, friendly service at an affordable price. There are several restaurants, bars, theater and entertainment venues nearby.

From June 5-9 a group of friends and I stayed at this hotel in downtown Phoenix. We had a disappointing experience at Rodeway Inn Phoenix Downtown. We made a reservation at on Dec 18, 2018 for five nights (originally from Jun 4-9), but in March 17 2019 we had a travel plan chage. We immediately changed the reservation at Choice Hotel website (the parent company of Rodeway Inn). Although we had a confirmation of that alteration in reservation (both printed & e-mail from Choice hotels), for our surprise when we checked-in on June 5 we were informed that we should have checked-in the day before (June 4). The hotel did not recognize our travel plan change made at their reservation system. We were forced to pay an extra USD 235.76 for no-show and daily rate difference. Unbelievebly, although we had changed our reservation at Choice Hotels website three months before our actual check-in date, Rodeway Inn Phoenix Downtown manager did not honor it. Of course I contacted Custumer service of Choice Hotels and after several e-mails and scanned docummentation, they offered me 4,000 points in their reward program, which I declined. Later, they offered me a compensation of USD 150.00, which I declined too. I want to have a full refund of the extra USD 235.76, since I had all documentation showing that the reservation was changed accordingly. If we knew Choice Hotels and Rodeway inn were so disorganized with their reservation system, we certainly would not have stayed there. We had many other hotels to choose from in downtown Phoenix. Indeed a very bad experience. Take care if you are considering to stay at Rodeway Inn Phoenix downtown.

Nothing fancy but super friendly and clean. Got lots of advice on things to see in the area. Coffee and juice, muffins and do it yourself waffles offered in the morning. Fridge and microwave in the room and good wi fi connection.

This hotel had decent reviews so since it was for one night I thought it would be ok . We only stayed because we came for a baseball game and since we both drank we can’t drive home to Phx . The sheets need to be thrown away they are worn out and the pillow case had a old blood spot on it like from a bloody nose . The room looks clean but smells bad . And the neighborhood is very shady. In others word I am not leaving the room till morning when I go home . Wouldn’t stay here again for free .

This is a Fifties-era place so some things can't be helped, like the lack of an elevator. few electrical outlets in the room. So, here goes. When we got here there were no ground floor rooms available at first but the manager pulled some strings and got us one. The Little Woman doesn't do stairs well so this was important. The staff are very pleasant and eager to please. The included breakfast, although not out until 7, is not extensive, probably due to the small space available to put it out, but what there was was good. Now, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. But there was no electrical outlet next to the bed, at least that I could find, and no clock in the room. We got a clock from the management but had to put it on top of the microwave so the cord would reach an outlet. There were no towel racks in the bathroom so hanging towels to dry was a real challenge. Also the only electrical outlet in the bathroom was on the wall opposite the sink and mirror so using electrical things was inconvenient to say the least. There were no shelves in the bathroom or grab bar in the shower either. These things have nothing to do with the basic design of the place and can be easily corrected, except for the outlet. There was no printed tv channel guide and no way to get one; we asked. You have to use the guide on the tv itself which means scrolling through it to find the channel you want and then writing it down. Most annoying. We have not encountered this anywhere else. The room was conveniently located next to the drinks machine but the ice machine was out of order and stayed so all week-we arrived on Sunday and checked out on Friday. The location can't be helped either but be aware that at least this section of Van Buren street is home to, well, a bunch of homeless. The only places to eat within walking distance are the excellent State Forty-Eight across the street and the MacDonald's about a block away. The latter has a no-loitering policy because of the street people. We weren't bothered by anyone but I didn't let her go out alone either. But the motel itself is secure, with key lock entry for both the outer and room doors, and there was no trouble with cars in the parking lot. The price is very reasonable and everything is clean, so make your own decision with the above comments in mind.
