Stayed for a business trip. Room lacked a mini fridge, microwave, accessible electrical outlets, a room safe, cable TV. The noise from outside my room was very apparent. The "gym" and "pool" were both disappointing as well. I would have been better off staying at a motel or extended stay. The "historic" nature of the hotel was overshadowed by the walls covered in posters on my floor. The only positive I had was it's convenient downtown location.

I really like my room. Even though it was very small, it was more than adequate. The hotel is very old and charming with lots of nostalgic artwork and historical photos all over the hotel. I loved that it was so convenient to public transit, had a restaurant and the coolest little pool on the roof. The rates were very reasonable and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay

I stayed at the Hotel San Carlos in downtown Phoenix, Arizona on a Saturday Night in June. Alaska Airlines offered me a boatload of points for one stay. Check in is at 3 PM and Check out is at 12 Noon. I arrived just after 4 PM by Bus at the central station across the street. This station is also served by the Metro rail. The person on duty told me little about the Hotel and issued me 2 room cardkeys for No. 301. There are 2 small elevators and stairways to all floors… which total 7, excluding the rooftop Penthouse. There is no restaurant that is part of the Hotel, but there is a Mexican Eatery connected called CENTRICO. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with longer hours on Weekends. They feature street tacos and tableside Guacamole, as well as a long list of Tequila brands. My room featured a Queen size bed, a vanity desk with chair, two side tables with lamps, a corner table with chair and a huge entertainment hutch with flat screen TV. The bed was very comfortable. I wish they offered more than 3 medium pillows. There is no cable television. The only channels you get are free local networks and free stations on the digital tv antenna. The wi-fi is spotty and not reliable for streaming. There are 2 bottles of water that cost $2 each if you open one. Coffeemaker (no tea), steam iron, full size ironing board, hair dryer and digital clock with radio are also offered in the room. The room is small and the bath area is smaller. But it was functional. I had a walk-in shower only. Some rooms feature a full bath. Bath gels, lotion, soap are all provided. And very luxurious fluffy towels, too! Water pressure was good and it got hot quickly and stayed hot. Walls are rather thin. I could hear next door TV when it was turned on. They have blackout shades so the room stays dark during the day. Plenty of food and drink places around the hotel. I chose SUBWAY across the street. The outdoor heated pool is accessed on Level 3—where the ice machines are also located, and soda machines (85 cents per can). They also offer a filtered water station—which is great for Phoenix in the Summer. The Air Conditioning is centrally located. Kept my room chilly on a 100 degree plus day. You can close the vent to control air flow. I especially like the ceiling fan over the bed. I might come back to stay and use the Pool next time. They say this hotel is haunted but I did not see or hear anything during the night. Maybe next time.

Terrible WIFI connection, poor accessibility to outlets, shower extremely hard to turn on and will change temperature and suddenly become boiling hot on you, computer downstairs wont help your wifi issue because that is terribly slow as well. Vending machines snack got stuck both of the two times i purchased one. Metro train runs right next to the hotel and constantly dings loudly. No complementary breakfast. Tiny bathroom with no where to set things down. There are some positives such as the rooms being kept up with well, Beds made, room cleaned and towels were replaced every day but overall i would not stay here again.

We picked this place for location and price, but were charmed by the lovely features. It has a small town feel with great service. The rooms are small, but filled with gorgeous furniture. Well-lit and good internet - that's always important. And it's quiet. There's a deck to hang out when the weather is nice and a pool - nicely hidden, so you feel you have privacy. Nice touches like a special filtered water pump on the 3rd floor. Featured in history and movies, each floor has some special notes about how the hotel has played a role in each.
