I'm a native but have liked back east for decades. Came back to visit and embraced the San Carlos. It evoked old Phoenix even before me (50's and 60's) and was in a great central location. You can feel the 30's vibe here.

This historic hotel is very comfy, relaxing and a fair value. The staff is a bit eccentric at times but friendly. The pool is unique and good for sitting around and having a drink. You can ask to look around in the famous room where Marilyn Monroe stayed. Its right next door to a great Irish bar too, Seamus McCafferies

I knew the stories before we booked, and that was part of the reason that we stayed there. We chose the Marilyn Monroe suite, and had a wonderful night surrounded by pictures of Marilyn. We took advantage of the 8-foot deep pool just outside of our door, and enjoyed wandering the halls and looking at the old photographs, many with... More

Hotel San Carlos is an historic hotel conveniently located near the Diamonbacks Stadium. I enjoyed the stat but felt they were trying too hard to nickel and dime me. They charged me $25 to check in an hour early and then there was a random $5 surcharge that appeared on the bill literally for no reason. I paid $240 a... More

I love staying in old downtown hotels - my husband, not so much. But he agrees - it was wonderful, and we would come back. Check in a breeze and staff quite friendly. The rooms aren't tiny, but it is historic, so they are quirky with steps into bathrooms and odd corners, etc. I thought it added to the charm,... More

This hotel is less than 10 minutes walking distance from the conference centre. It has a lot of character, and is different from the usual Sheraton or Marriott. The staff are very helpful, and wi-fi is fast, reliable and complimentary. They do not have a restaurant, (so no in-house breakfast), but there are many restaurants nearby. The sky train runs... This hotel was loaded with history, plaques stocked full of information lined the walls; However, if you want a restful comfortable night, you may want to stay somewhere else. First off, the reception we got was just flat out rude. I wasn't sure where to park and the lady at the desk tried to give me directions without naming streets.... More

This is a historic property right downtown on the corner of Central & Monroe. It claims to be a boutique hotel- which we enjoy as it usually means a historic property is updated and refurnished - and usually one is treated like a special guest. Right off the bat this is not happening at this place. It is historic and... More

This is the type of hotel you visit for it's personality. To get a feel for how things used to be. It's not modern or elegant by today's standards but kind of quaint and charming. Wouldn't recommend staying with kids as the rooms are pretty small. We stayed here for part of comicon weekend and the staff was incredible. Dennis... More

Hotel is close to the Convention Center and a viable alternative if the other hotels are booked. The staff was very courteous and helpful and I had no problems during my stay.
