The JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa is often lauded for its immaculate cleanliness and serene atmosphere, offering scenic views and charming casitas that captivate guests. While the service is frequently described as attentive, some incidents of unresponsiveness have been noted. Opinions on the rooms and decor are mixed, with some finding them to be spacious and others expressing concerns about their outdatedness. Although the resort's amenities and location are admired, the value proposition is questioned by many due to steep prices and additional fees.

Very relaxing stay at the JW Marriott Camelback resort. We played pickleball every day. The food at Rita’s was excellent. One morning after pickleball we picked a delicious ripe grapefruit off a tree and ate it for breakfast. One night we got a late to-go pizza. My son asked a staff member for some paper plates. The individual proceeded to provide us with real plates, silverware and linen napkins so we could eat on our patio. Lovely stay!

Our stay at the JW Marriott Scottsdale was nothing short of magical and truly unforgettable, and the exceptional service we received, most especially provided by Luz, the manager. She made it an experience we’ll cherish forever. Upon arrival, our requested room was unavailable, but Luz immediately took care of us. Luz placed us in the next best room, refunded us and provided resort credit. On top of that, she graciously arranged for us to return at a later date to stay in the original room we had booked, completely on the house!
The level of hospitality didn’t end there. Our trip included a brief getaway to Tucson for a wedding, and upon returning to Phoenix, we had a red-eye flight with no plans to book a hotel for the day. We asked Luz if we could use our previous room (which had a private pool, one of the main reasons we booked it) to relax before our flight. Without hesitation, she made it happen and even added resort credit for lunch! The way Luz went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and happiness was truly outstanding.
Aside from the world-class service, the resort itself was breathtaking. The food at Rita’s Cantina & Bar was absolutely delicious, with fresh flavors (Caesar salad, add achiote chicken!) and an amazing variety that catered to all tastes. The beautiful resort grounds were easy to explore, thanks to the convenient golf cart service, which made getting around a breeze. The rooms were spacious, elegant, and filled with thoughtful details that made our stay feel extra special, not to mention the stunning views of the desert landscape and surrounding mountains, which made every moment feel serene and relaxing.
Whether you're lounging by the pool, enjoying a meal at one of the fantastic on-site restaurants, or taking in the gorgeous views, the JW Marriott Scottsdale is a slice of paradise. And with exceptional staff like Luz, who goes the extra mile to make guests feel valued, this resort truly sets the standard for luxury hospitality. Luz’s kindness and dedication made our stay incredibly special, and we can't wait to return. Her commitment to creating memorable experiences is truly unparalleled. Thank you, Luz, and the JW Marriott Scottsdale team, for turning our trip into a lifelong memory!

We had not been to the property in about 10 years and some of the reviews said it was getting "tired" so we were a bit concerned upon arrival, however, we found the property, food, and service to be excellent just like it was last time we stayed there. The only caution is that our Costco deal was supposed to include the resort fee and the property tried to charge it to us at checkout - but removed it when I caught it. Pickleball courts were a not in good shape and need updating.

I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn while attending a meeting for business. While the common areas, resort, and surrounding area was beautiful, I was not as happy with my room. The room was very dated with peeling paint and old interior doors in need of replacing. I could look past all of this, however my chief complaint was regarding my entrance door. Because the hotel is set up more like a motel, each door to enter into the room is accessed from the outside. Unfortunately I had roughly a three inch gap at the bottom right hand side of the door that gave access to a variety of creatures entering my room. This beautiful desert setting comes with the potential for various bugs, scorpions, tarantulas, mice/rats (we saw some sort of a rodent sitting on a rock while we dined at the Lincoln Steakhouse patio), snakes, etc… When I went to the front desk to request a room change I was told that wouldn’t be possible since they were full. When I asked if every room was occupied at the current time, I was told some guests would arrive the next day. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t be moved while they fixed the problem and then offer my room to a different guest the next day. Unfortunately all they could offer was a check from engineering, which I accepted.

When engineering arrived at my room he immediately agreed that my complaint was a problem. He tightened the hinges for the door that were all loose which helped some, but did not correct the problem. He mentioned they would come back the next day with a tool that would re-allign the door since it was apparently “off track”. I never really noticed any difference in the door, so I cannot say if this ever happened. It was suggested that I put a towel down on the ground to stop anything from coming in, which I was already doing. I had not seen anything but my main concern was that most of these critters are nocturnal and wouldn’t come out until it was dark. This was concerning because I am allergic to several types of insect bites and carry an epipen for this reason. For this reason I slept with all of my lights on for two days which was not ideal.

When I raised my concerns with Marriott corporate I was offered 3,000 points which I found insulting, and have still yet to see two weeks later. As a lifetime Titanium Elite member I have been offered more points as a welcome gift, and knowing that the value of points is roughly $.08/point, this gesture seemed somewhat hollow. There are plenty of great Marriott properties, and I am not one to complain, but I will not be returning to this property based off this experience.

Came for a continuing Ed conference that I go to every year. I was put in a casita on the far end of the property. My room left a lot to be desired. It seemed outdated and wasn’t very clean. And by that I mean, there were long blonde hairs in the shower drain and a toilet ring (you know… what you get from not cleaning much). They girls who booked far after I did got a much nicer room closer to the lobby and conference areas. I scraped my knee on the first night and there were a few drops of blood on the top sheet and comforter. Housekeeping staff just went ahead and left those on the next 3 nights. They encourage you to drink water but leave 2 bottles of water a day—if they leave it at all. You can fill a water bottle in the conference area but it is a long walk. There was no microwave in the room (though it is advertised as an amenity and others that I talked to had one). I paid $45 for a burrito and a cup of soup at Rita’s one night, but no way to reheat leftovers. Decided to splurge on dinner one night at the Lincoln steakhouse—they burnt all our steaks ($70 by the way)— which they then had to remake and we were there forever because they had a party of 35. They are still doing construction around their pools and it is loud AF if you were planning on relaxing there. I think the worst part of the experience is that the numerous paths you have to follow around after dark to get back to your room are poorly lit/labeled. Don’t drink any alcohol or you will never find your way back. Overall I wasn’t impressed. $1800 for 4 nights is ridiculous for this property and that was with a hefty conference discount. I have a Marriott Bonvoy card with Elite status and I’m probably just going to get rid of it after this stay. Not worth it.

This review is long overdue, stayed in this property on Sept 2021. We first stayed in the Phoenician and I decided to stay behind to relax and do some alone time on this property. It is a beautiful property but the service just falls shorts especially after experiencing the service at the Phoenician. Being a titanium elite member, my request for an upgrade was not easy, I had to speak to a manager after several complaints regarding the rooms that they initially assigned to me which did not take into account any of my preferences and to make matters worse the awful condition of the cleaning because the toilet still had poop floating when I walked in.

This is an example of a property that is truly beautiful but the overall review is taken down by service that doesnt match the impressive aesthetics. What sets luxury properties apart is not the facade but the warm, sincere and efficient service that is rendered by the staff. This property falls short in that aspect especially the front desk people. At this price point, more is expected.

We stayed from late December, 2022 to early January 2023 (a week's visit). This is a good place to enjoy the varied plants and local wildlife. There are varieties of cactus that will surprise you. Outside our room were the northern mockingbird, Gibbons's quail, curved beak thrasher, the long tail grackles and hummingbirds. The flowers are colorful and there are places just to sit and meditate.

The rooms are spacious and the beds, although a little lumpy, are comfortable enough.

The problem is that the roof of the room leaks if it rains. Drops fall on the telephone and the room's table. You hear the dripping all night. The hotel could not accommodate a room change so we slept with Styrofoam cups catching the rain in the room.

The lock on our door did not work when we checked-in. It took about an hour after several attempts by hotel staff to get it to work. The cleaners could not get in, they claimed, so we had to stay waiting for the room cleaners to come to have the room cleaned. The hotel offered 25,000 hotel points for the aggravation and refused our request to obtain another room.

The restaurant is fine and we received good service in it. The food was ok and pricey as you would expect from a resort.

The sad point is that this is an Arizona iconic hotel. It is run down not in what you see but what you cannot see. The roof on the room across from me also leaked. I heard them asking for a different room--they did not change.

It is horribly overpriced. Paying upwards of $800 per night this place is not worth it as a place to stay.

My suggestion is to buy a starbucks or have lunch at the resort and spend an hour enjoying the flora and fauna. Do not stay here during the rainy season (the winter and monsoon season in the summer). There are plenty of other resorts were you will enjoy a room that you can be assured that it won't leak while you sleep. The hotel offered no adjustment for the inconvenience (I did not ask for one either) as I expect there are many rooms in this "resort" where the roofs leak. It is so sad but I felt that travelers should know the state of this resort when making their decisions where to stay.

Hotel definitely has the feel of an older property in need of some help. Insulation between rooms is the worst I’ve had in years. I could hear the guy next door to me snore at 3am, and heard his music as well. The bathrooms definitely have an older feel and could use a makeover. The outfitting of the room itself felt much newer, with everything in good condition. Great bed. The service is fantastic as well, with one of the most polite and downright friendly crews I have ever met. The property is huge, has a nice bar and work out room. Be prepared to get your steps in. So not a bad review, just one pointing to some issues.

I have said much of the same each time I come here, but I had an even nicer experience this time. We have a conference here annually the first week of September. I got a great room with a spread out floor plan and two queens near the conference center so I did not have to sweat as much waking in a suit down to the presentations. Friendly and helpful staff at check in. Comfortable conference area. We did have an issue during the presentation with an AV glitch, but we kept going while staff fixed it on the fly. Good bar options for our conference reception. Comfortable room. Great historic property. The extra effort this time was that my toilet ran in my room constantly. i took the back off and saw it was filling past the overflow and just pouring out into the pipes as a waste (and an annoying noise, but I had just gotten into the room). Called the front desk and maintenance showed up in under 5 minutes and changed out the float in the toilet and apologized for the interruption.

Our sixth stay here in four years. Pre-COVID was a different experience. This place had all the amenities of a large global resort that 'felt small' and left you with a feeling of 'intimate care'. NOT SO for our stay in November, 2021. The property is focused on the large group wedding venues leaving couples looking for a romantic get-away feeling isolated and forgotten. On property dining reservations are hard to come by + spa facilities are booked out weeks in advance, to include day passes + the on-property Starbucks was having to cut their menu selection in order to serve a large wedding party dining at Rita's cantina on property. We found a few smaller boutique properties in the area that were able to accommodate our Spa needs as well as dining. $650 a night here is better spent at one of the smaller venue properties in this same Paradise Valley location where there is ample staff to take care of all guests. If you have to stay on Marriot points, so be it...if you are spending your hard earned money, go to a smaller venue. We will do so in the future.

The nearest hiking trails are right on Camelback Mountain. A bit of a walk from the JW (maybe 1.5 miles) but the better option - there is very limited parking at the main trailhead. There is no main building, all the rooms are in 2 story casitas - really nice rooms. I am sure some of them look out on Camelback, but all have views of the other hills surrounding the property. About 20-25 minutes from PHX, a few minutes more or less from the rental car center (which is about a 15 minute bus ride from the terminals). Not sure about the stadium. Some nice trails on the mountain with some good rock scrambles along the way. Depending on day and weather can get a little crowded. If you have time and a car, I would head over to McDowell Mountain Regional Park or South Mountain both are really big parks with lots of trails

If you mean the live performer who's there sometimes, there was a solo act fellow with an electrified acoustic guitar (probably an Ovation, if you know guitars), playing things like James Taylor and Carole King, light pop. I think he was set up starting about 1 pm for just a few afternoon hours. It was pleasant, but if you hate any ambient sound you might have been unhappy. I found it appropriate background music--certainly not like a band. It made no negative impression. The guy was talented and low key. He shifted to indoors, in the bar/lounge, for evening hours, but of course this would be avoidable if you don't go to the lounge. I don't remember any unpleasant evening loudness.
