Our Parents will not go anywhere else, Supporting Family...
There is always room for improvement,
My Recommendation is the "Room Amenities"
You need to Pay Serious Attention to this..
Kettle, cups, Iron & Iron Boards, bed spreads.
TVs, bathroom amenities.....
We have been regular customers for years and these remain the same😃
Recommendation for the Cleaners to change your mops regularly, & please clean thoroughly & not just surface clean.
Once these are implemented a definite 5 Star rating.
God Bless & Thank you for your Service.
Our Parents have already booked in for January 2023, Hoping it will all be upgraded by then 😃 😊 😀
Since I was there at the height of the tropical wet season high temperatures and high humidity were to be expected, so it's imperative for anyone not used to that combination to have air-conditioning. The first room I got didn't have it in working order and sleep was hard to come by, but the staff made a change first thing in the morning and I had no problems after that. Once the room was cooled down, it tended to stay cool enough to sleep without the aircon going all night.
The hotel is five minutes walk from the bus station and the centre of town, so it's handy enough to everything you will need. It's also far enough away that very little ambient noise disturbs the quiet of the place, and there's a nice park over the road if a gentle stroll is in order.
The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful, and rather proud of their place (which is always good). The rooms were very large and had everything I needed for a business trip, while internet wasn't a problem. The restaurant served good food, and the bar had a choice of places to sit over a cool beer in the evening.
I enjoyed my time there, even if it was rather warmer than I'm used to (the weather forecast said things like 'Today's high 31 deg Celsius, feels like 40' - and they weren't kidding). I'd stay at the Elisa again with no qualms; it's not a top-end resort or anything like that, but certainly fine for what I needed. It was also useful to know about at the moment, since accommodation in downtown Apia is at a premium while Aggie Grey's undergoes a refit.
I'd highly recommend the Hotel Elisa as a great base for new arrivals getting accustomed to Samoa or for those wanting some clean comfort before departing the islands. 10min walk into central Apia for shopping and eating (I wouldnt recommend the hotels restaurant or room service - too expensive).
The Hotel Elisa is located about 200m away from The Kitano Tusitala....it was very modern, exceptionally clean and more like the hotels you come to expect in Australia etc....
The rooms were large, the beds soooo comfortable, a HOT shower (NICE!!!), TV kept the kids happy, air con, tea & coffee facilities and small bar fridge and phone avail in rooms. Small verandah overlooking Apia Harbour.
For the level of comfort and amenities we were surprised at just how cheap they actually were: A double room cost WS$204, a Triple WS$257 and a family room WS$310. For the same room types here in Aussie, I guess we'd be paying the same if not more....
Service was above average with doorman, 24hr desk clerk, cleaners...parking is directly opposite the hotel and the doorman keep and eye on your vehicle overnight, internet services available (although they were really slow accessing), a small boutique gift store offers the same items you can buy at the markets for half the price.
This isnt in anyway a 'cultural' place to visit (being more modern and westernised) so there aren't any photo opportunities or in-house entertainment etc but if you're lucky you may just catch the doorman on videotape singing at full voice in that uniquely samoan joyful way...lol!
The only issue I had was with a desk clerk trying to charge me full price for my 2 year daughter and 4 year old son, but that was easily sorted with a phone call to the manager.
The staff and management make you feel welcome and are always looking to make your stay more enjoyable. The meals are always of a high standard and also very tasty with a choice of both european and traditional meals.
The rooms are large by hotel standards and always clean and tidy.
All staff members are friendly, the receptionists are extremely helpful in assisting customers to arrange day trips with taxis or tour operators. By the way, hiring a cab for a half or a full day can be cheaper than "buying" a local driving licence and renting a car.
Unfortunately, you will not find a typical "south pacific atmosphere" in the restaurant, but their food is surprisingly good, and servings are very generous.
The Elisa Hotel is on the waterfront, but not on a beach, and it has no swimming-pool of its own (yet?), so you can either go to Hotel Kitano next door and use their pool for a fee, or you take a taxi to the other end of town where the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve offers excellent snorkelling.
Right now, the place is excellent value for money! It will deserve perfect marks as soon as they add a pool and a satellite dish (even if you don't come to Samoa to sit in front of the telly)
I reserved a standard room and on arrival was given a room on the fourth floor without a balcony, even though online it says all standard rooms have balconies. When I said I either wanted a room with a balcony or a reduced rate, they moved me two buildings down the street to a conference-style room with no windows, no wifi reception, and no minibar. It did have a balcony, out of which I faced directly onto a noisy construction site with workers who I couldn't help but look out on, and they couldn't help but look in on me. The separate building was not connected to the pool, front desk, or restaurant and for the first couple of hours I periodically chuckled and thought to myself "Okay, this is what you get for being picky."
At dinner the first night I ordered a chicken sandwich ($22), and was brought a bacon burger with egg ($28). When I spoke up that this was not how I had ordered, the waitress came to point out that I had agreed when she asked about the item number on the menu. I had specifically ordered "a toasted chicken sandwich " while pointing at where the item was listed on the menu and after she had taken my menu she said "AD4?" and I had nodded. Of course I didn't know what the letter code for the sandwich I wanted was, but I felt bad about the miscommunication, and I did not want to cause the kitchen a problem so I agreed to eat it. None of that was the end of the world, but in what I see as a customer service fail, I was still charged for the more expensive item.
Things got worse the second day when the power in my unit went out around 4pm and it took over 2 hours for the staff to change the fuse, during which time my windowless room was dark as a pit and impossible to do anything in (not to mention increasingly stuffy as the a/c and fan were not functioning). I chose to pass the time by taking a swim at the main building, and in return I was given a free dinner, which I definitely appreciated. However, that same day the hot water also stopped functioning in my building and so for two days of my three day stay, I did not have hot water. 5 tala were deducted from my bill at the end to help make up for this.
The nail in the coffin was that I ordered a car to the airport the night before my departure, confirming with the receptionist that it would come at 8:30am. The next morning I woke up early, took a cold shower, ate breakfast, paid my final bill and double-checked my car would be there at 8:30, then had my bag brought down by a porter a few minutes before 8:30. Then it was 8:40 and the receptionist called the driver for the first time that morning, he was no where nearby, but she told me he'd be there in five minutes. He arrived 20 minutes later, at 9:00. In the meantime twenty empty taxis drove by, and I grew more and more frustrated that the staff was insisting I wait for this specific driver, who ended up being a full half hour late.
What it seemed had happened was the driver forgot to come at 8:30, the front desk never verified he'd be there when I double-checked earlier that morning, and instead of just calling me a different taxi when it was apparent he'd be very late, they strung me along because he was a friend or family member and wanted the good airport rate. Totally unacceptable conduct, particularly when catching an international flight was on the line.
The staff was very pleasant, but there were an awful lot of mishaps given the amount of time I stayed here and my reasonable expectations (the amenities promised at booking, electricity, hot water, and an on-time airport transfer). While I was able to take everything else in stride, the 30-minute delay on the taxi was too much, and when I left I was incredibly stressed out. The experience certainly put a dark cloud over my last memories of Samoa.
