This hostel is in a great location, in a nice old historic building with an atmospheric staircase up to the hostel. The front reception area and front common area are nice but things go down hill in terms of standards the further back into the building one goes (the old tinted glass walls are nice) . The single private out... More

First room we had was very noisy and dirty, without airco. For a small extra charge, we could change rooms. This room was much better, cleaner and with aircon. Shared bathrooms and kitchen were old and often dirty, especially the kitchen. However it was quite cheap and the staff was friendly.

We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom for 4 nights - $ARS140 per night. The hostel is a beautiful place up on the 3rd floor, with a lovely dining / living area. The rooms are adequate and the beds are old but comfortable. The shared bathrooms are small with cramped showers but plenty of hot water. The... More

The people that work in this hostel are really nice people, amazing and really special. But the owner of the hostel is dishonest, “stayed” with my 100 dollares in a transition of payment and then told me “oh, I’ll pay your money back”… so, he never did this and I needed to go to the police to try to solve... This hostel is the worst that I already had been. There are bedbugs, the kitchen is utterly dirty, there are many cockroaches ther. Some staff are really messy and joint with guests in parties and people can´t sleep for all the night long. While I was there one of the guest had his laptop robed by another one that even... More

My husband and I stayed at Tanguera Hostel for two nights. Oscar was a great host, gave us tips on where to visit, how to get around and places to avoid (for safety). The location is the best part of this place... it is located on a small side street in San Telmo, walking distance to the Microcentro (Plaza de... More

I really enjoyed staying at Hostel Tanguera. It's a small hostel - only about 20 beds and Oscar and Laura create a great environment. Breakfast is served in the mornings, the rooms are cleaned and the guests are not really party animals, which makes it a nice place to stay. It's a two story walk-up, but once you get there,... Staying in Montserrat

Neighborhood Profile
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighborhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
