I stayed in Hostel Tango for a little over 2 weeks in 3 different shared rooms and it was the worst hostel experience I've ever had. The only reason I kept living there was because I thought I had an agreement with the owner, but I don't want to focus on that here. To start off, I'll talk about the... More

The team at Hostel Tango truly made a difference to my stay, very friendly, hospitable, and full of suggestions on what to do and where to go in the city. Clean rooms, comfortable reception/lounge area, nice large bathroom areas (these are shared), and most importantly great location (centre of San Telmo). All you really need from a hostel during your... More

Only stay if you don't mind being ripped off. The price at booking was not adhered to and we were overcharged by 300 pesos. The owner just makes up her own exchange rate at the time of check out (not the official, or the blue). I have travelled extensively throughout Argentina and never experienced this. In addition the owner is... More

Price increased by 20% from agreed price for no reason! Only informed at check-out. Female manager very rude, passive-aggressive and hostile. We have travelled throughout South America for many months and never experienced anything like this. Avoid avoid avoid

Stayed here 2 or 3 days. The bunks sleep good, were common bunk bed. The bathrooms need work. Showers and toilets. The free breakfast was free. Free Wi-Fi in the common room. Not a strong signal. Would stay there if no other place is available.

We recently stayed at this hostel Upon our return to BA (having stayed across the road at America Del Sur beforehand) and what a regretful decision this was! We had booked accomodation for three nights when we arrived and checked in the "cleaner" handed us our towels whilst holding a cigarette in her hand, I'm sorry but isn't the purpose... More

Made it to this hostel after a friend had already stayed here one night. Was lucky enough to have place, since all other hostels were booked. The place is very well maintained, rooms and bathrooms are being cleaned on a daily basis. There's a kitchen with the basic things you need for cooking, but bring spices. Showers were always warm,... This is a nice place and we had booked a double room with private bathroom and found the place quite good for a hostel room. It has an old mansion feeling as the rooms are spread out over a long open air passage with the shared toilets in the middle. They served a breakfast of cereals with milk, bread, butter,... More

It was not so much the cockroach but the reaction when i told the management or at least I asked for some spray to kill the oversized sucker! They did not have any spray, but did offer to clean the room the following day, while admitting "there are many (cockroaches)".... After that conversation the staff were very rude and unfriendly,... Staying in San Telmo

Neighborhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

“Try and stay in a matrimonial room with ensuite for the additional cost as the dorms were a little crowded. The extra cost was worth it. Also try and head for the rear as the courtyard towards the front tended to be used as a meeting place.”
