This resort is smaller in terms of number of rooms but on a larger, park/garden-like property. You don't feel like you are at a resort, but in a lovely park with beautiful mature trees and lawn all around. There is a good walk with a rather intense inclined hill from the main building to the pools and beach. I only mention for those, like myself, who may have health or mobility issues. In my case, it wasn't a problem for me, but worth noting for others. I will also say there is a boardwalk across the beach to the pier which is also nice.
I have to say the staff is a mixed bag....Overall, most all staff went above and beyond. Some just didn't understand or speak English very well, but tried very hard. Others who didn't understand English very well and didn't try at all. Sometimes they would handed off to someone who did and that is fine. Some just ignored or avoided you. We were almost always greeted in Russian first. We had a real communication issue at one point with a food allergy at Verde Pub. Even after explain it was a food allergy, we received the same thing three times! I will also mention this is something we brought up with management.
I will add that there are some staff that deserve a standing ovation!
*Esme/Efme- the pool lady who is like your favorite aunt...always smiling and cheerful! Asking how you are, if you need anything. Truly a gem to this resort! Her male counterpart who I don't know the name of, unfortunately, he only has one arm and so hard working too.
*Nori and Mai- Massage therapist from the Spa.
*All of the staff from the Spa were truly outstanding. We had a lot of treatments during our stay and we truly appreciate the efforts they made for us.
*The staff of the Neptune Bar made this our lunch place. Language was occasionally an issue, but they quickly changed waiters(Erol and another one I don't remember the name of)were our favorites.
*The Staff of the Zodiac Bar were truly amazing.
Regardless of where you eat...the food is always fantastic. And for lunch, in particular there are plenty of options. The Verde Pub has a Mexican vibe and also a grill, which is very good, however growing up in the southwest of the US....not really true in terms of seasoning(but it's so close!)...just not enough Cumin or Cilantro(Corriander). None of our group suffered from Gastro issues, which says a lot! We ate at both of the a la carte Restaurants and both were great.
The only suggestions I would make is to keep the Pastry Bar Opened at night. We weren't able to enjoy it because it close so early, which is something we have really enjoyed at other resorts in the evening. The other has to do with food allergies and aversions. I personally detest Lamb, it evokes a gag response with me and I am HYPER sensitive to the taste. Unfortunately, certain dishes which did not contain lamb tasted like lamb because they are cook on the same grill, pot or use of lamb fat. Or dishes labeled as only "Meatball" or stuffed with "Meat". Perhaps, label food better for those of us who have food allergies and aversions, particularly shellfish allergies. There were also a lot of dishes labeled as Fish(Pasta with Fish) but also contained shrimp and/or mussels in them. I saw many children removing the shrimp only from these dishes and it might not be obvious for those with an allergy.
I wanted to bury this comment under all of the positives. Mostly because we truly had an amazing vacation and we would go back. However, in terms of the accommodations and overall buildings and pools....These are very dated and worn and in need of renovation and repairs. For example, our toilet was constantly and literally "farting" as we called it randomly or after flushing and there was water damage from the shower behind the door of the toilet. Air Conditioning was...adequate but never gets truly cool(mind you, it is August)in room or restaurants and there is no AC in hallways...they get quite hot in the afternoon. If I am really honest, it is not truly a 5 star hotel in terms of overall aesthetic. Food/Beverage would be, hands down....overall service nearly. The lobby is lovely, as are the Main/ a la carte Restaurants and a few other spaces in the hotel, but the everything else needs updating. This does not equate to not well cared for or clean...it was, but paint only covers so much...so to speak. I say these thing for expectation purposes only. Many guest come year after year.
Now, this is the only truly negative comments I have about this lovely hotel. The convenience shop is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Avoid it if you can...23 Euro for Generic Aloe Gel which retails for 5 Euro maybe is insulting. The next is more worrisome in regard to some of the lifeguards(not all of them) at the Main pools were more worried about their phones or talking to other staff/people than pool. Literally counted down a solid 7 minutes without the lifeguard looking up from his phone. And many times, nowhere to be seen. There were a couple of children jumping from the upper pool to the lower pool and one nearly jumped on my child below. I know this is as much a parent problem as a lifeguard problem. Nevertheless, the issue is these kiddos were keen to some of the lifeguards phone and talking habits and would wait for them to be distracted to jump. As our child is older and a strong swimmer, drowning wasn't a fear for us....however bodily injury from jumping kiddos certainly became one.
Most rooms seem to have side views of the sea, with the premium and large family rooms being the few that have direct views. You would probably need to be on the top floor to take advantage of this though as the topography has the main buildings set back and the grill bar and the French theme restaurant are set on top of the hill in the centre of the site. It is one of several hotels with all of them fronting onto the beach. The hotels either side are not as tasteful and can be noisy.
For those with mobility problems or just too lazy, there are golf carts to take you from the main accommodation and buffet restaurant to the grill bar, open air theatre, pools and beach bar. The hill between the main buildings and beach facilities (sunbeds with parasols and a jetty out to deeper water for direct entry without sand) will provide exercise . All food and drink is included . Extra to pay if drinking from the wine lists in the restaurants.
The staff are all approachable, friendly and helpful. That is an enduring memory - that they made feel that nothing was too much trouble.
The 3 resorts (Verde, Serenity, Golf) have different design styles but are all maintained to a very high standard with pools, beach access and separate piers into the sea with places to relax. Food options across the three resorts are wide and varied and because we were in a Select Villa, this allowed us to eat in all but 2 of the à la carte restaurants at no extra charge - you need to book ahead and might need to be flexible on which day you eat at a particular restaurant. We ate in the French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, International and Steakhouse restaurants but also tried the buffets which were magnificent. A lovely benefit of the Select Villas is the Select restaurant which is open for an excellent choice of a la carte dining from 8am to 11pm.
There are 20 Select Villas which are in a secluded area away from the main Verde resort surrounded by trees and the golf course and it is so peaceful. The villas are built in a circle with their own pool and bar in the middle (open until midnight). The main resort is a 5 mins buggy drive or 10 mins walk through a tunnel. The villa is very nice with a small private outside area as well as a large lounge/kitchen area and a washing machine which was very useful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and housekeeping was carried out to a high standard every day. The Minibar was replenished every day and Room service was available 24 hrs but the food was a little disappointing, possibly because it had to be transported from the main resort.
Entertainment - there is a lot of entertainment scheduled across the three resorts. We didn’t partake much preferring the peace of the villa and the pool but did enjoy watching Michael Jackson (I thought he had died) one night and a DJ on another evening.
Special mention goes to Ilkay and Mesrif from the Select restaurant along with their superb chefs. Bilal for his welcome and fantastic steaks at Bazilika restaurant. Yusuf who kept us well ‘watered’ at the pool bar. Finally to Dogu and Nadejda who checked on us regularly and responded to any of our requests promptly and with a smile.
In summary Gloria Verde Select villas are a delight. We left relaxed, refreshed and eager to return.
the juice machine in the vitamin bar fits as a museum object not in a modern hotel.
The wall to wall carpets are the same as when I visited the hotel for the first time 15 years ago and following years. The music entertainers in the lobby bar make only unpleasent noise - most of the guest run away to their rooms before the show ends.
With exception for "The Drifters" - they are excelent.
The current hotel managment is doing a great job in contrast to the lady who was running the the place down last time we were there.
In all a great place to stay.
Only recommendation that springs to mind would be to enable self service coffee in the mornings to reduce waiting times, include packet apple juice at breakfast in addition to the fresh pressed (as this was very pulpy) - also the onsite shop is very expensive, so recommend popping to local city centre for essentials if needed.
In summary we loved our stay here. We would return to Gloria Verde for a relaxing all inclusive holiday. We really had the best time!
Same holds true to staff at call/service desk, that have arranged dispatch and solved one small issue we have had with airco in a matter of minutes.
Having Standard room category booked, we have been positively surprised with the quality of room amenities provided.
Food served at all the restaurants, bars and pubs at the facility is nothing short of amazing, regardless of it being main restaurant or pubs closer to the beach. Both alacarte restaurants are a must-go, with excellent menu and with professional staff serving delicious dishes exactly as ordered. Neptuno bar staff has been serving equally good food during lunch time and made sure drinks have been served nicely during the evening (live) music shows.
Beach and pier are furnished with quality sunbeds and again, one can only commemorate all the staff responsible for maintaining clean and safe environment in the beach area. The area is constantly cleansed, sunbeds lined up and staff is constantly paying attention - I have witnessed security and lifeguards intervening immediately on one occasion, providing immediate first aid to a kid.
In short, I would definitely recommend Gloria Verde Resort and am looking forward to staying there once again.
