Beautiful grounds, stunning views, amazing staff, great food & beverages, lovely pool & dining area overlooking the sea. Short walk to access the small beach. It’s not fantastic beach for kids to hang out and play. It’s small and rough waters and mostly fishermen boats there. But there is a small area to get in. Be cautious with rough waves and children.

A short Covid staycation out of our Canggu bubble for our 20th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. This is a lovely resort getaway to the peacefulness of East Bali. For those staff we met, they were all amazing and very grateful to be back at work during these tough times and eager to help and serve. We had a couples spa treatment which was very lovely. The resort organised a private table on the beach for an anniversary dinner and the meal and ambience was very enjoyable. The beachfront pool area is lovely and sunny and a great place to chill, relax and sunbake. There is no actual beach in front of the hotel, but you can take a short stroll to a small beach next to the hotel, at low tide and that is a lovely spot too. We love this resort and its ambience. Could it do with a few upgrades and touch ups here and there? Sure, but it didn't distract us from having a wonderful time.

Absolutely Amazing Hotel and such friendly and helpful staff. I stayed here during the beginning of the Corona Virus outbreak and it was quiet due to many travellers returning home, but this didn't demotivate the staff and they maintained their high standards and were very hospitable. I would definitely come back if given the opportunity, absolute paradise.

Keeps getting better and better every time we return. My wife and I feel totally relaxed and at home at this resort. The staff and service are second to none. The facilities are very good as is the food and the location has a beautiful garden setting and spectacular views of the ocean and distant islands. The dive shop next door is very good and restaurants in the main street are high quality and diverse. As always Richard the host manager makes sure all is as it should be. I think we have stayed here 8 times now and we never tire of it and always look forward to the next visit. Stefan

I’ve read that the Burj Al-Arab in Dubai, UAE is the “world’s only seven star hotel/resort.” I don’t know about that as I’ve never been there. But what I CAN tell you is that Ramayana Candidasa in Bali is the worthy of being called the only candidate for “six star resort” in which I’ve ever stayed. When we first arrived there, on Saturday afternoon, I was a little concerned when the driver took us down what was basically a goat path barely wide enough for the car we were in (although later in the week I saw a full-sized, high-roofed tour bus show up there). However, when he turned into the reception loop, I was left breathless. The staff assembled at the top of the stairs/ramp to greet us with smiles that only waned the day that we left two weeks later. I have never, ever met such friendly, devoted, efficient, knowledgeable, prompt, eager-to-please, and reliable resort employees as these “Jewels of Bali,” as I refer to them. We were offered an upgrade to a garden front bungalow from our standard room at no charge (possibly because it was low season, and there were only about ten rooms taken at that time in the whole resort. (This made that time there all the more magical.) Despite that generous gesture, when we were shown the pool/ocean side upgraded bungalow for an additional US$50 per night, there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation. The bungalows (all, I assume) may have been - we were told - smaller than some of the suites in the back of the property, but it was certainly spacious enough for us. A luxurious, high king bed with two different sized and density pillows on each side. (I’ve never seen that before...what a great and thoughtful idea!) A convenient desk with storage and coffee maker as well as plenty of power outlets for our purposes. A comfortable bench at the foot of the bed and delightful towel swans on the bed greeted us. (The creative menagerie changed daily.) The bathroom was brightly lit, spacious, the toilet had both paper and standard-issue Asian “bum gun,” two sinks with tremendous counter areas and storage underneath, plenty of towels (although no washcloths), and a shower big enough for three (even though we only tested it with two). Uniquely, the closet - complete with shoe area, bar (just ask if you need more hangars), and standard hotel safe for valuables - had sliding doors on the bedroom side AS WELL AS THE BATHROOM SIDE; very thoughtful and useful. The window looked out onto the restaurant, pool area, sand area with hanging beds and chaises, and the sea. More than worth the upgrade price. It was like having our own beautiful house on the edge of Paradise. The front lanai was a pleasure to just sit on and watch everything happen all around us. Just steps to the pool, meals, massage, relaxation...PURE HEAVEN. We met Richard, the resort/house manager minutes after checking in, and we immediately struck up a conversation and great rapport chatting with him. He invited us to the two hour, all-you-can-drink meet-and-greet Sunday evening. It was there that we traded our lives’ stories, and I became forever jealous of him and his travels and experiences. When we told him that we were staying a week and then moving to a resort on the west side of the island (near Negara), he got a worried look on his face as he asked why. He told us that there was virtually nothing there and that, if we were so inclined, after making the four-plus hour trek there, to return to this Eden, to contact him through WhatsApp (as he handed over his card with a wink), and he’d see what he could do. Although we spoke with others who were more into physical exhaustion than we, it was cheap enough (US$2) to take drives into the town of Candidasa (and back) each time we wanted to eat, shop, or get supplies and massages outside the resort (for a change - not that everything INSIDE the resort wasn’t perfect). There is a nice little warung just outside the reception gate (Warung Rai). The auntie that runs it, Rai, was very gracious and a great cook. Her prices are about half of what you’ll spend in the resort restaurant. She makes a hell of a lobster and whole fish. It was nice, though, to be greeted each time we came back to the resort, as if we were being welcomed home - and always by first name. It seemed like every staff member we encountered, whether they were serving us, cleaning our room, handing out towels, or just sweeping up EVERY dead leaf that fell on the ground from any tree, they all seemed to know our first names. INCREDIBLE!!! And that’s another thing...the grounds, whether landscaping, stonework, or even the dirt around the plants, was all IMMACULATE. It’s the only thing comparable to Walt Disney World’s level of spotlessness I’ve ever seen outside of Lake Buena Vista. We were very sad to leave at the end of the week. So much so, in fact, that (without getting into the specifics about THAT place) after a four hour car trip there, we stayed at the other resort one night, and then contracted Richard begging to come back “home.” He was gracious and eager to arrange the bungalow next to our original one (the only one closer to the pool) and for a much-appreciated special return rate. We gladly paid for and endured a FIVE hour trip back the very same day. Upon return, the staff ran to greet us again, so happy to see our return. There was even a personalized letter from housekeeping with two towel swans on the bed to welcome us back “poolside.” What incredible service!! The remainder of the second week was even more wonderful than the first. We even met new (hopefully) lifelong friends, Melanie and Nick, from Melbourne having drinks with Richard the night we came back. What great luck!! (Can’t wait to see them down under and welcome them to New York!) I could go on for a long time extolling the virtues of this property (the pool, the food, the drinks, the spa, the services, the sea view, etc.), but suffice it to say that if I didn’t already own more than my share of timeshare properties around the world, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy at Ramayana Candidasa. We will CERTAINLY return time and again to this piece of utopia on the chilled out east coast of Bali. It’s worth the 25 hour travel time from NY and the 2-3 hour drive from the airport. Every minute there was perfect. Recommendations: Take the resort-offered cooking class. It starts with an amazing trip to a “local” Asian market which you will never experience anywhere else. It’s followed by a very fun two hour cooking session in the restaurant with the resort’s head chef. I feel embarrassed not to remember his name, but he was so gracious and informative. So talented, too. Also, be sure to book a reservation at the most (i.e. ONLY) upscale restaurant/club in town (3 minutes from the resort), Vincent’s, on Thursday night for live jazz - you’ll not regret the memorable experience and fantastic (slightly higher-priced than usual, but totally worth it) cuisine. Such fun!!! Feel free to ask me anything about this place. I love talking about it almost as much as being there myself!! Or contact them, and ask for Richard! (Tell him Jan and Teri sent you...)
