Location fantastic and even got 3 evening meals thrown in per week as booked with Thomson. Great food on par with the nicer restaurants in the area. I for one shall return in a year or so as can't fault the place. Well done lagoa ! B ROANE

We spent two weeks at the Lagoa Azul, myself, my wife and our 14 year old son. I guess like everybody that comes to Goa for the first time, the taxi ride from the airport is an experience you will never forget. Crazy traffic, sights that make you most uncomfortable, however when you see the Lagao Azul, relief all round. Check in quick and easy, nice refreshing fruit juice to cool you down. The guys on reception are always smiling and pleased to greet you. We had a top floor suite. Double bed in the bedroon, and a single bed in the Lounge. Loads of room. Air con worked really well, and fans in the lounge and bedroom. We found that if we opened all the windows, the breeze that flowed through was amazing, so much better that the A/C. Pool was always clean, sunbed situation was ok, you still get the 'no show reservers' though. Tabla restaurant in the hotel was amazing. We were with TUI so had choice of the full menu. I believe if you go with Thomas Cook, you have 3 x free meals a week, but it is a limited menu. Either way, great food, fantastic service. Now I know we British dont want to do Indian food for Breakfast, Lunch & Tea. However please try the Masala Dosa at Breakfast, to die for! Plenty of local food/drink avaliable. 100 Metres away is St Sebastian. Yes it doesnt look much, but the food is amazing, and the beer is ice cold, and the best value. Further toward the junction you have You and Me, Honey, and Anands, all great. A little bit further, to the junction you have Relish, O' Prato and Starlight. A little bit further on, Nicks. All walkable Jamies near Baga is a shuttle/taxi ride away, a little bit less Indian it that's your thing. Wherever you eat/drink, you wont be disappointed. All of the above serve great food, superb value, and for those of you that judge a holiday price on the price of a pint (like me), around 80p, and 30p for a gin or Honey Bee (Brandy). So out and about, Baga beach first! Well! It is an amazing experience, the beach bars are fab, and they will look after you like never before, its busy, really busy, but fantastic. We went to Morjim beach a couple of times, took a taxi from the hotel it was 1500 Rupees return, he will pick you up later in the day or next day if you wish (We stayed in a beach hut for the night). You pay the driver on the Return to the hotel. Again, amazing service. As per the previous review, there was an attempted bag snatch. However the hotel security and the local guys were amazing, we really did feel safe there all of our stay. Would I go again?....Absolutely, and stay at the Lagoa Azul?....No point in staying anywhere else!

We arrived at our hotel at 4am exhausted after a long flight etc. I must admit I wasn't thrilled when we arrived and were shown our room as we were on the ground floor after having requested a high floor. This was soon sorted the next morning when we spoke with our rep. The room was quite big with a massive comfortable double bed, flat screen tv with plenty of channels, tea and coffee facilities, a lovely bathroom and great pool view from our balcony. We were in room 117. The staff are lovely always smiling and helpful. Our room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels given. Thank you to the housekeeping staff who work very hard. And thank you to the reception staff especially the young lady who was on during the day and the lovely young lad who worked the night shift. They were always smiling and happy to help. There are also security guards at the entrance to the hotel 24hr a day and they are very friendly. As we had never been to Goa before and had heard stories of the poverty etc I wasn't really looking forward to the trip. It was a surprise from my husband. The first morning when we left the hotel to find a money exchange I was thinking we have made a big mistake here. The road was dirty and dusty with dogs everywhere and quite honestly I was a little afraid. But how wrong I was. Within a couple of hours I was really enjoying it. The people are very friendly but you do get some looks still from the locals as they seem to be surprised by our white skin. We saw people videoing us and taking photos but we took it all in good humour because we were surprised by a lot of the things we saw - all in a good way - cows walking around, popping their heads into shops and on many occasions when we were in the bars. They are part of the culture and everyday life in Goa. There are a lot of dogs about but after the first day I never felt uneasy around them and I am not a doggy person. There were loads of pups running around close to the hotel - about 14 of them but they were so lovely and very timid because i've heard people kick them etc. We used to buy biscuits at the shop by Honeys on our way back to the hotel in the evening and we would feed them. I think they looked forward to seeing us as much as we did to them by the time we were leaving. The beaches are beautiful. We went to Baga Beach and it runs right through to Calangute and Candolim. There are plenty of beach bars that run the whole way through. The water was quite rough when we were there with a lot of waves but there are plenty of lifeguards along the way. When we went to Calangute beach it was completely packed with locals and tourists from the north of India. My husband and I were the only Westerners there and we were approached by people asking to have our photo taken with them as they were completely enthralled with us especially my husband who has blonde hair. There was no malice and we mostly obliged. There are a few bars within walking distance of the hotel, Honeys, You and Me, Currys and a few others. We drank in all of these and the staff remember you always. And the best bit ... the prices. Everything was so cheap. A ruppee is pretty much equivalent to our £ so its easy to remember. We did the night and day markets but as it was quite quiet when we were there in April we got harassed constantly so we ended up leaving. As soon as you go to look on the stalls they have you and personally I couldn't deal with it but if you like to browse and haggle you will enjoy it. The taxis are quite cheap too. We went to Candolim and it cost about £3 - £4. We went to the market for about £3 and the driver offered to wait but we said we might be a while and he said no problem and he was there still about 2 hours later. Also we got in a tuktuk to Raza restaurant and he offered to wait. He wouldn't take the money until he had picked us up and again he was there sitting outside waiting for us. Brilliant service so thank you to our friend Deepak. And the food here was amazing. I would highly recommend you go. We ate in loads of bars and restaurants and I can honestly say the food was amazing in each and everyone. The food in the hotel restaurant Tabla was absolutely beautiful every time. The flavours are amazing. We even took a cookery class with the Tui rep because we just wanted to learn how they get so much flavour into their food. I would highly recommend this. We also did the waterfall trip .. can't remember the name but I wasn't over impressed. The waterfall itself was beautiful but it was that packed that you couldn't get in and swim. The trip to get to it was a bit of a nightmare too as you have to leave your taxi and get into a 4x4 which then takes you to the falls. It takes about 30 mins to get to and is over rough terrain the whole way and its very bumpy. And then you have to do it all over again to get back! You will thoroughly enjoy this hotel and Goa. Its not the prettiest scenery where you are based but there are beautiful things to see. This is a country in poverty but you have to look beyond this. We were never approached once by a beggar whilst there. Go on a walk down the lagoon and find the fruit bats hanging in the trees and find the kingfishers. There's plenty to do here and its cheap enough to get around. One last thing though I must add ... ladies watch your bags and phones. On the night before we flew home our friend was pushed to the ground by someone trying to get her bag. She wouldn't let go and thankfully wasn't badly hurt. The hotel security were there in a flash and they did everything they could to help. We will definitely be going back to Goa and would certainly stay in this hotel again. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
