Stellenbosch is a good place to start you trip up or end your trip off "The Garden Route". And if you are going for the winelands, this is a good alternative stopover. Easy access from the main road and not too far a walk from the village.

I arrived to Stellenbosch for 2 half days and was thus unable to do a full day wine tour. I found the staff unwilling to give info on any other options. Also there was no staff/night watch man and the power went out so people could not enter through the electrical gate without shouting and waking everyone up.

Our accommodation canceled on us at the last minute and had to book the first place we found which was Stumble Inn, despite the bad rieviews on tripadvisor. We stayed in a different house (not the house pictured). The bedsheets seemed clean but badly stained and could see the mattress through it. It was terribly noisy due to traffic, and...

Good budget option with clean bathrooms and dorms. Staff were not particularly helpful. Easy parking for hire cars and a good place to organise the requisite wine tour of the region. Relatively close to the centre of town and decent restaurants. Generally filled with lots of backpackers. Nice garden out the back where camping is possible.

Nice little place in the wine mecca of SA, its rooms are clean and tidy, wi-fi fast, garden pretty, TV 3D, staff friendly, location central and kitchen good. But the music! Always there, in the background. No generic reggae or soft-pop for this place, oh no… its beats, hard-core, pounding, not loud but not quiet, beats, all day. Which is...

Not sure about all the negative reviews on here as we really enjoyed our stay here, so much so that we stayed longer. Sharon (who runs the place) couldn't do enough for us and although we had a bit of a cock-up on the booking - she went above and beyond to rectify the mistake. Her customer service skills are...

Located very centrally in town and offering lots of activities makes this hostel a good choice for one or two nights, however the hostel is very basic. We stayed in a dorm and there was often a queue for the bathroom as there was only one toilet and two showers for 20 beds.

Fantastic hostess (Sharon) and partner (George) make all travellers feel very welcome. Rooms and facilities are basic but adequate. Communal facilities (kitchen, lounge, bar, pool table etc.) all fantastic. Free, fast wi-fi. For the price, the hospitality couldn't be beaten.

If you plan to stay in stellenbosch for 1/2 nights this is fine, but if longer maybe look elsewhere. The kitchen is OK, basic. Same with double room we stayed in and communal bathrooms. We imagine in peak season this may be a party place. The hostel organised a wine tour for us with easy tours which was again, OK...

Stumble inn itself is not that special. The location is not great and the people who work there are not very hulpfull; but it is still okay. The winetour which they offer is very nice and you get discount on your dorm when you do it. There is free wifi and a free baz bus shuttle available.
