So we got a lovely warm greeting on arrival. The place was in a wonderful location, our accommodation was lovely too, very nicely decorated room, everything we could need for our stay. When unpacked we asked at reception about a trip the next morning to see the meerkats, only to be told they were fully booked.... very disappointing because this was the reason we had driven so far inland and out of our way for an overnight stay here... our fault I know we should have pre booked! However the lady said she could put us on a cancellation list just in case someone cancelled and said we were the only ones on the list so would be the first to know! Great at least we had a chance Later that day we overheard another croup of 4 checking in and also being told the meerkats trip was fully booked but they could be put on the list in case if cancellation! That night at dinner we overheard the same 4 guests been told they had now got a place on the meerkat tour as there had been a cancellation.. After dinner we spoke to reception and asked if we had also got a place on the tour and was told no, we said we were the first in the list so why had we not but the other guests had? but apparently not, in fact we were not on the list at all, even though we had asked hours earlier than the later guests Might not seem like much to moan about but this ruined our stay.... not only that we didn’t get to see the meerkats but how unfairly it was dealt with Get it sorted! ONE LIST! FIRST ON LIST GETS TO GO! SIMPLES!!!!!!!!!!…
After a couple of years we had another stay at the De Zeekoe and we haven't been disappointed. The team was very helpful, kind and well skilled. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Our room with outdoor shower was clean and very comfortable furnished. The meerkat tour was an amazing experience even it was quite short. But that is nature. All in all we had a wonderful stay at De Zeekoe.
We ate in the restaurant which was very nice , recommend the Ostrich Steak which is very reasonably priced along with the wine. The scenery along the way is quite stunning. It’s probably worth the visit while your travelling the Garden Route
This was good in every way. Convenient location. Very comfortable room and balcony. Great service. Superb food. You have to try the ostrich filet. Highly recommend. Tourist attractions close by include ostrich park, and the splendid Cango Caves.
If you want the most authentic Karoo farm experience you just hit the jackpot. Everything was graciously delivered and presented: deeply comfortable room, tasty farm food, clean, modern bathroom, heavenly terrace and friendly staff. Throw in the long list of things to do: walks, runs, meerkat viewing, star gazing by experts ... the list is longer ... and you understand that 2 nights doesn't do it, really. You also need some days to do nothing - there is such joy in that in this ancient, quiet place. Of particular mention is the smaller detail, found in many gestures: the staff who arrive early but without yelling at one another. Scented bath salts. Sherry in the sitting area. Are you getting the picture? For me, that's called country hospitality. You'll find it here in spades.
