Everything about our stay was beyond expectation. And even if it weren’t we would want to return to meet up with delightful owners again. Every detail of the room and public spaces has been tastefully and artistically combined. I can’t recommend La Pension highly enough. A true gem!

Guided by fantastic reviews, we booked a one-night stay at La Pension during our return to Cape Town from the Garden Route via Oudtshoorn. After visiting the amazing Cango Caves, we arrived at La Pension at around 3 pm. It’s said that in life, you only have one time to make a good first impression. Entering this easily accessed lush, beautifully decorated and pristine family property was just that. It was like arriving at an oasis after hours on the road. We enjoyed a relaxing welcome drink overlooking the pool and magnificent gardens, chatting for over an hour with our gracious and knowledgeable host, Venita. A bottle of well-chilled wine from the pool bar set the tone for our quiet evening on the property. Our late lunch in town meant that we were happy to stay home, munch on sandwiches bought earlier and have an early night. Venita kindly let us use the kitchen/dining area. Our room and ensuite bathroom were large and beautifully appointed. The comfortable kingsize bed with crisp white linens provided a restorative night’s sleep. As for breakfast, it truly hit the spot. Fruit, yoghurt, cereals, delicious home cooked ‘English’ breakfast, breads, pastries and excellent coffee set us up for our Route 62 drive back to Cape Town. We wished we had planned to stay longer in this magical rural area. Alas, we had to hit the road and leave our La Pension oasis. Thank you for such a memorable visit, Venita. We took lots of pictures of our stay and have sung the praises of La Pension to anyone who will listen since we left.

From the very first second we felt at home. This kindness that everyone exudes is extraordinary. Venita and Erol(Mandela) you have a paradise and we have found it! Amazing guesthouse. Errol & Venita so warm & welcoming, even though we arrived later than planned. Our room was thoughtfully laid out, with the children’s beds in a room adjoining ours with the option to close the sliding door , clean , beautifully made up beds & a stunning wet room bathroom. A proper hair dryer was provided with ample wardrobe room for hanging clothing. Air conditioning unit present which is essential in the summer. Our room opened onto the garden a tasteful mixture of Mediterranean & English planting. Lots of shade over the seating areas. The breakfast room & bar beautifully furnished over looking a lovely pool . The breakfast was excellent in taste & presentation. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. They even help you order in food from local restaurants in the evening! I wish we could have stayed longer. We will when we return. Brilliant location for the Cango Caves , the Klein Karoo & over to George on the coast.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in a fabulous gust house. Our hostess Venetia was delightful and we were sorry that our stay wasn’t longer. Highly recommend staying at La Pension …it’s a gem in the heart of town therefore easy access to all restaurants and areas of interest.

If it was possible to give a rating of 10 on 5, I would give it to La Pension Guesthouse at Oudtshoorn.
Based on our booking, when Errol and Vee connected with us the day before our travel to their place, giving us the most valuable tips about the drive to their guesthouse along the Garden Route, where to take a break enroute for the most awesome milkshakes etc we should have guessed that the stay at their villa would be par excellence.
Errol and their sweet doggie Ruby gave us the most warm welcome when we arrived there after our long drive from Capetown.
The cottages and rooms were very very tastefully done. The large sprawling lawn, the swimming pool area, the way the cottages and villa is located were all so beautiful.
Sitting around in their dining area having drinks over loads of engaging and fun chats whilst watching a game of cricket with Ruby and the cats lolling around - the evening couldn’t have been better. We enjoyed catching up with the other couple who were staying there and they were great company as well.
For animal lovers playing ball with Ruby and just sitting around the calm cats and watching the chickens being fed is a pure delight. For those who are not so fond of animals, they are all so well behaved and know their boundaries and do not venture near the guest cottages / rooms so you ll not be disturbed at all.
The walk around La Pension to the restaurant areas for dinner, crossing over a small suspension bridge was lovely.
The next morning started off with the most awesome homemade breakfast by Vee.
Vee and Errol had checked with us prior to our arrival and also informed Cango Caves that we would be visiting there, so after breakfast we headed out to see the most beautiful caves. Whilst we would have liked to do the Adventure Tour of the caves, we were unfortunately not slim enough so had to opt for the Historic Tour which was lovely as well.
The route suggested by Errol to our next stop Storms River, Tsitsikhama via the Swartberg Pass was one of the best parts of our entire road trip.
We so wish we had stayed at La Pension longer - one night was just too short so we definitely plan to go back there for a longer stay. Maybe we ll repeat our Cape Town / Garden Route trip just to be able to go back there - and we don’t say this about too many places😊.
And now we have friends for a lifetime in Errol and Vee and their lovely pack.

We picked this guesthouse in order to be able to go to the Meerkat experience nearby Oudtshoorn, so we didn't have high demands or expectations. However, this guesthouse was indeed a gem. Friendly, welcoming owners, spacious room which was very well equipped, bathroom with hairdryer, well-functioning WiFi, lounge to spend the evening, nice swimming pool, delicious breakfast...we couldn't have asked for more. The owners went our of their way to help us arrange everything, incl. late check-out. They also kindly booked us a table for a dinner at a local restaurant, and it was indeed a great experience. We would gladly come back.
If we could change one thing, it would be improvement of the shampoo/shower gel in the bathroom.

Awesome B&B/ Lodge at a great location in Oudtshoorn. The rooms are very nice and the hospitality of the owners is exceptonal. Oudthoorn is a very nive location and can be used as the center of several trips to other location in this area of South Africa. Highly recommended!

I stayed at this guesthouse with my husband as part of a 4 night trip along the Garden Route. Our only regret is that I booked for 1 night and not more. The accommodation was excellent & centred around a lovely pool and bar area. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful - would thoroughly recommend and as per the heading we are already planning a return visit!

I'm so sorry for not replying ...... am horrified to see that this was posted 27 days ago. My apologies - our establishment can accommodate 16 people in total with 2 family units which sleep 4 each and 4 units which sleep 2
