Fancourt Hotel garners appreciation for its stylish atmosphere and well-appointed rooms, making it a lively retreat with keen attention to detail. It stands out especially for golf lovers, who find the location ideal for enjoying scenic courses. The spacious and clean rooms, complete with amenities like fireplaces, are frequently praised, although there have been some service hiccups. While the golfing receives accolades for both quality and value, opinions on the spa and dining costs vary. The staff's friendliness and the hotel's cleanliness are widely commended, as are the diverse amenities offered.

Spent 4 nights at the Fancourt over Christmas.
While the grounds are beautiful (manicured gardens with beautiful flowers, birds etc.) and the infrastructure is a clear plus (tennis, pool, gym, children’s club), we were disappointed as some of the services and infrastructure lacked the attention we would have expected.
Some examples: the gym was unattended when I was there, and I found rubbish on the floor, the bin was full, the floor was dirty. This area needs supervision. The same goes for the inside pool area, where loungers and floor were dirty both times when we were there. It seemed not supervised either. The outside pool area (outside pool was too cold when we were there) needs more “attention to detail” – it lacks the charm of other 5* properties. It seems outdated.
La Cantina was disappointing, also the Christmas dinner did not reflect good price/value ratio in our opinion. There was the usual Italian fare (Lasagne, meat, fish), but nothing surprising or extraordinary, just some very common Italian dishes. Given that this was the most expensive lunch during our stay, we did not feel it was adequately priced.
The ambiance in La Cantina was rushed and busy and never relaxing, especially during breakfast. But service was good/very good at all times there. Breakfast choice was a bit disappointing, we had better breakfast with more high quality ingredients in other hotels during our stay.
Monet’s bistro seems to be “hit or miss” – one night we had a bad experience, not having received drinks after 45 minutes (with only 5 tables full and Manager passing our table numerous times smiling but not doing anything). Another night, all was fine, attentive staff, good food.
On 25th of December, at 08.00, we had a gardener outside our room who woke up all the people when collecting leaves with a loud machine. These are the things you should not expect in such a hotel.
We chose this hotel because of the wide range of facilities, but do not feel that it fully lives up to the standard of a Leading Hotel.
The whole ambiance is busy, rushed, with many cars passing through the area (golf club cars, pick up cars, security cars and so on), not great if you are trying to walk some meters with a small kid and you always have to pay full attention.
Not sure if we would return. We were unfortunate as the weather was also not great during our stay, however, would carefully think about a return.

I visited Fancourt for the first time with my family in December. We booked a 2-bedroom apartment which was clean and well-appointed.

The resort is very large and the parking lot was quite far from our room. There are golf carts on call to shuttle guests around the resort and we never had to wait more than 5 minutes when we requested one.

The pool area got quite busy and they had a maximum number of people they could accommodate due to Covid protocols. They provide sanitizers in the rooms and all the guests and staff took care to wear masks.

Our overall experience of staying at Fancourt in George was excellent and we look forward to visiting again.

We spent New Year's Eve in Fancourt and we enjoied a fancy dinner at Henry White's and accomodation. We plaied golf on Outeniqua course on Jan 1st, booking a golf bag that was perfect, it was an amazing experience. Despite the highest level of quality of the resort and the location of the resort itself with three golf courses I couldn't help noticing the significant price premium compared to other high quality accomodation available in the area.

The Manor House is such an enjoyable experience within the Fancourt Complex. The Holmwood Suites are tastefully furnished with all the amenities and facilities that you need. Minibar, coffee machine, large TV, private pool, cakes and canapés. A small patio area if downstairs and a very small balcony if upstairs (we were downstairs). The staff are most accommodating and very friendly - from the maids to the front desk personnel. There is a car park local to the building. You can get your temperature checked each morning at the front desk and the appropriate coloured band issued for the day. The restaurants at the main building offer a wide choice of meals - pizzas, pastas, salads, various other hot meals and with breakfast available at 3 locations there is plenty of choice. Again staff are very pleasant and helpful everywhere you go. The Montagu and Outeniqua Golf Courses were in the best condition that I have ever seen them. Well done to Golf management and Greens Staff. The manor House is up-market but the accommodation within the complex has various levels and prices to suit all pockets.

Sadly our stay here was blighted by torrential rain for several days.

On arrival at our room, which was quite pleasant, dirty plates and laundry had been left outside. These were only removed after 2 days when we pointed them out. We were woken very early by a gardener using an electric leave blower. On our last evening we had dinner in the room, which was actually v good. Generally the staff were friendly and helpful. However this was not the case when it came to the Pro shop and golf management. We came to play golf, and were thwarted by the weather, that cannot be helped. However on one day we managed to get a few holes in. We were the last ones off and found most of the bunkers were water logged and had to skip holes to due waterlogged greens. We finally arrived at the halfway house, and decided to call it a day. The golf staff took us back to the hotel and suggested that we should have a rain check due to the conditions. On return to the pro shop we were surprised to be told by a male member of the shop that wouldn’t be possible as we were told when we went out that it was our decision to play and the conditions were not great. We were not told this! We approached the booking managers upstairs who agreed to giving us a rain check. Sadly due to the wet weather we were unable to play. We were informed that the golf fees would not appear on our bill. When we went to check out, we were billed for 9 hols play. On challenging this, and following a number of conversations between reception and the golf management that lady who had cancelled our fees came down and apologies and informed us that the manager Nic Grundvig, has overruled her and charged us for 9 holes. Sadly he didn’t have the manners to come and explain this himself. We have been fortunate to play at some of the world’s great golfing venues and Fancourt is not one of them. What makes the truly great venues stand out is the level of service and desire for golfers to have a great experience. It was clear that making money was more informant to Fancourt that providing a world class service.

Not a venue we’d recommend or choose to visit again. Needs new modern managers who care about their clients.

Checking in was fast and efficient. Luggage was delivered at our room, which had everything we needed. Golf was also arranged efficiently and the pro shop was helpful. Excellent golf practice area.

Breakfast was in the Cantina, which is looking rather old and tired; you also need to queue (briefly) before they find you a table.

To us the place lacked atmosphere and seemed to be aimed at package tourists/large groups. We spoke to a number of other couples who said they wouldn't be returning for this reason.

The pool area was also in need of renovation. Maybe we'd expected too much of Fancourt; we were surprised that this was one of our least favourite hotels in South Africa.

Once again my husband I had the most wonderful 7 days at Fancourt HOtel, George. We chose a luxury One bedroom Suite on the ground floor as requested and we just loved the fact that it was so well placed for privacy. The patio was super. Everything was so spotlessly clean and we were aware that the room had be sanitised as all remotes and information were sealed in an envelope having been sanitised. Fancourt offers so much , the driving range is great, the pitch and putt is great and Outeniqua and Montague are just such beautiful courses to play. We loved the food at La Cantina, but must say that the room service is also excellent. This is our 5th visit to Fancourt and defifnately not our last. Looking forward to booking the next one already.

We recently visited Fancourt for the first time.
We had driven past it numerous times on previous visits to this part of the world on our way to Oudtshoorn etc but were always curious about staying there.

School holidays came around and we wanted to treat the children to a well deserved family break so decided to split our trip between Herolds Bay and George.

First stop on the trip was Fancourt
We drove in and were shown to reception in order to check in

I have traveled the world and am accustomed to top notch service and this was exactly what i received.
From the check in staff to the porter who drove us to our room to staff all over Fancourt.

The room was set up with a separate bedroom and two foldaway beds set up in the living room for the kids This did mean that the living room was rather cramped with the beds taking up much of the space.
The separate bedroom though had ample space and the bathroom had large enough shower plus separate bath

The grounds are well maintained and facilities perfect for families

Kids club catered for our two for few hours each day.

Indoor pool was busy but warm.

I used the gym, sauna and both myself and wife made use of the warm relaxing Roman baths

Breakfast was amazing.. anything you basically wanted was able to be ordered... hint.. eggs Benedict... amazing!!!

we ate at both restaurants and food was again excellent.. kids enjoyed..

What made it even better was bumping into old friends and their kids.. which made the trip a lot of fun for the kids.

thank you Fancourt and all your staff to make this COVID trip a memorable one.

hopefully we can book for another trip very soon.. January possibly.. to enjoy the hospitality once again

We had a 5 night staY here for the golf. Having been told it’s the best hotel in Sth Africa we expect high standards. The golf area is fantastic as are the courses. Not sure where the photos are from on this site but our luxury suite did not look like these. It was clean and the bathroom was lovely. However, the housekeepers kept leaving the doors open when they clean and turn down causing flies and mosquitoes to visit and stay. On 3 occasions we killed 8 flies when we got in from golf. I called housekeeping to complain and then reception. We were told they would deal with it. On day 4 we popped back to our room and the doors were closed but the maid opened all the windows. How hard can it be to ask for this. The bedroom french door didn’t close properly so spiders walked in quite easily. I asked for this to be mended. It never was so I stuffed tissues all around it. I also asked for peppermint tea bags in the room as I had been unwell and couldn’t have dairy. 4 times I asked and they never arrived. The breakfast area I would give 3 stars. The chairs were worn on the airs and tatty. The service hit and miss. All in all a great experience for the golf but we would not stay again. I did use the spa and the girls were great and the treatments top notch. We also ate in the Italian and Henry Whites. Both very nice. .

Incredible. Just the most amazing service experience we’ve ever had

From the very beginning when your car is unloaded / valet parked and luggage whisked away to the very end, nothing is too much trouble

Greeted by Asanda of Guest Relations with cold fizz and upgraded to a suite, we were checked in and driven to our lovely room over looking the first tee of Montagu

We had two days golf. Both courses are excellent. Buggies and clubs were ready and caddy Dino was very helpful

We ate at Henry Whites, La Cantina and Clubroom Grill. All offered different culinary experiences and were very good

Breakfast is a sumptuous spread and service is great

Add in a lovely big clean pool and this has everything you need

Standards of cleanliness are top class

Not cheap but definitely value for money. Highly recommended - a special thank you to Asanda - surely the next hotel manager in the making. A great ambassador for the Fancourt brand
