I dont think the service is so bad. I do think management is non existed. On arrival no one greets you. The reception area was also empty. And we had to wait with all our baggage just to be send back to the parking lot with no help because someone will take us to our room. After waiting a while someone picked us up very friendly and took us to our room. He did mention he is new and we had to carry own baggage at the end because he was not sure where our room was. And the rest of our stay was the same. Had a great round of golf. 5 star course.

My husband and I had to postpone our wedding twice in 2020 and cancel honeymoon plans due to Covid regulations so decided to take a trip up the garden route and start it off with a stay at the Oubaai hotel for 3 nights. One of the main reasons we decided on Oubaai was the spa and the views, plus it just looked like a nice resort! We called in advance to reserve a great room with views and book massages etc at the spa. When we called, the lady said they were fully booked up and could not help. We explained that there was availability on booking.com but she either did not understand what booking.com is or was not interested in assisting. We booked a room on booking.com with a king bed and called to book a spa day. We were then told there was no availability which was disappointing but can't be helped. My husband emailed the spa explaining we were on our honeymoon and if they can squeeze us in or have any cancellations to please contact us...they never responded. When we got to the hotel, my husband said we were on our honeymoon and can they please bring some Sparkling wine to the room, they lady at the desk simply responded she can't do anything and we should have told someone the reason why we were coming...we explained that we did but she just said again we should have told someone...pointless conversation with someone incredibly incompetent and disinterested. When we did get to our room, we had twin beds and a view of a bush.... Such a shame because the hotel has potential just so disappointed with the lack of care and attention to their guests. The only nice and cheerful staff were the room service staff and the cleaners.

We were very excited to visit Oubaai - the hotel & golf course that the famous Ernie Else is apart of. We booked our stay via the Hyperli deal and requested a room upgrade to sea-view. The staff were friendly, but the service is very slow. They take forever to answer the telephone and they are unprofessional (disengages the phone without greeting goodbye). The room was nice and we had rose petals & beautiful biscuits on the bed. Our aircone in our room did not work and when we reported to reception, nobody came to sort it out. We also found that the balcony was dirty and 2 cigarette butts (from previous guests) were never cleaned - very gross. One can see that this hotel was once a wonderful spoil, but it has definitely been poorly managed over the passed few years and lost it ultimate luxury touch. The buffet breakfast is nice. They can definitely look into upgrading the chairs at least (white, stretchy material pulled over chairs - old fashioned). Overall, it was a good stay. However, the hotel needs to look into upgrading certain areas & ensure that the rooms are clean & in working condition, before checking in the guests. Although we paid a “deal” price, it is important to ensure that guests have a fantastic stay - that way, they’ll return and spread the word/recommend to friends & family.

From initial booking staff are not really helpful, when i asked about certain things, i was told to go look on the website...hhhmmm...ok.... On arrival, the front desk was pleasant then all down hill. Rooms are stuffy and dirty, its like cleaning is a no no for them...i dnt think the light fittings have been cleaned in years, at the restaurants food is stuck in-between tables, which common sense will say let's brush the food out between customers, there are cobwebs between the legs of chairs and tables. Let me not even start about the towels...stained and dirty sometimes even torn...there was one potter who was just not interested in assisting at all! At breakfast there are clear signs indicating masks should be worn, however, some guests did not care, even went 2 the extent of touching food with their hands. The staff at breakfast would not even ask them 2 put the masks on. The only friendly service we got was at the restaurants. Stair cases are unswept, outside our room door there was a dirty towel n baby cot left oustide for 3 days! The pool area is dirty, dnt think that has been cleaned in a looong time. the only thing they have going 4 them is the golf course! Pity! Wish i read the other reviews before staying here! Good money down the drain. And they simply unapologetic for the uncleanness, not matter how many times u address it!

Wow, simply wow. We stayed here on the last evening of a 10 day holiday, and I wish we stayed there for all the other evenings. It was an amazing experience. As soon as you drive on to the grounds you know this is going to be great, and it does not disappoint. Friendly welcome, efficient and fast check-in service. The rooms are very luxurious and comfortable. Breakfast serving times start early, which enabled us to have breakfast and getaway for the long drive back to the Free State in good time. This was backed up by a fantastic selection of breakfast items and the coffee was also very good. I enjoyed breakfast as all the items were of good quality and well prepared. Had a great time here and will definitely return and recommend.
