Stayed in Oubaai from 9th to 14th September 2022. A very warm welcome from the hotel Manager Brian, the staff and the drivers. Had an opportunity to eat in all restaurants, and….. great stuff👌 I shared on my social media pages and guess what? My people have started booking there, others are there as we speak, I just could not keep quiet😂 Oubaai ticks all the right boxes, and I am definitely going back there. Thanks Brian and your Team💯🙏 -Thabisa & Chris

Oubaai hotel and spa has definitely made some significant changes to their staff, food, maintenance and overall performance. This was our 5th visit to this hotel and definitely our best stay. Well done to the hotel manager and the friendly and very competent staff for making this a memorable and lovely stay! The rooms were very neat and clean (the carpets particularly had a very fresh and hygienic smell), the pool area was very neat, the food was well presented and the options were expanded. Upon request, they even offered our youngest two children special food options (not of their menu) for breakfast. The breakfast staff is extremely friendly and helpful and all their duties were performed with professionalism and sincere kindness. I noticed that all staff took notice of our children and they felt very welcomed too! I would definitely recommend Oubaai hotel and spa to all families. You will thoroughly enjoy your stay. We will visit again in October!

We took advantage of a Flook special and reserved 4 nights for a party of 8. Such good value for money and staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was generous and staff managed to continue service despite loadshedding. Gym and pool table and table tennis were appreciated by our teens too.

Man, where do I start with this gore experience. It was very sad to say the least to come back to a place that we we enjoyed visiting so muc before Covid, and now to find a place that we could hardly recongise. As hard as some of the staff tried, it was clear to see that even barring Covid, there is a general neglect of this places. Because we were travelling as a family with two girls, we had requested when we booked for interleading rooms, but alas when we arrived we were informed there wasn’t any, so ok fine. Then we got awakened by a security guard at 1am, who very aggressively asked us for our names and telephone numbers. Luckily we had told the girls to latch their door, as he apparently so loudly knocked and tried to open their door. The next morning was fully of finger pointing and promises from Head of Security, none of which materialised. Dinner at the open restaurant on property was not great, my steak tasted like it had been frozen for a long time. Breakfast was also forgettable. The one positive was from the Porters, who always has a constant smile and even offers drove to drive us to the Viewing deck on our last day there. Also luckily, George had other decent places that we got to explore, but sadly Oubaai is a place that will be confined to memory.

I arrived at 14h15 at the hotel, informed that my room was not ready yet. Reception indicated that they would phone me; I receive the call way past 16h00 (the official check-in time is 15h00). Nevertheless, when I checked in eventually I was waiting for ages for a porter to take me to my room. The golf cart was started with a table knife and in the morning, it was started with a pair of scissors. The promised sea view is a myth. The hotel does not reflect the four starts. There are here and there staff members that really try, but the overall experience is simply not good enough. SA needs tourists, but Oubaai will not make a positive contribution.

Writing this review on day 2 of 3. Beautiful ornamental bath cannot be used due to almost no water pressure. By the time 10cm of water is inside bath, the luke warm water coming out of spout, is cold. Phoned reception, guy came, looked at the bath, told me I am not the first to report the problem, left...and thats it...problem not resolved. Furnature on balcony overlooking the beautiful golf estate and sea, full of bird droppings, rendering the balcony furnature useless. Also, stained carpets. I can live with the dated wall paper peeling off the walls, requiring capex. However bad housekeeping like stained carpets and lacking basic maintenance, that mostly only require good mamagement and man hours, is not on. Also wanted to take a jogg in the morning along the vehicle road leading to golf club, but not allowed to. Can understand that this is not allowed on the golf course. Wanted to take a walk to the whale deck watchout point, also not allowed to. Have to take the shuttle. Previous visit we had complimentary decent coffee, wine, snacks in the longe area of our floor, no luck this time round. Also no pod coffee machine in our room as per previous visit 2019. The dish of our choise at restaurant could not be served, due to some ingredient out of stock. All these small things adds up. Yes, covid happened, things changed and we all have to find ways to save. We reserved 3 rooms for our family of 6 at R1800 per room / night for three nights. Total R16200. We believe that we could possibly do better with this amount next time, somewhere else.

Upon arrival - there was no signage pointing us to Reception. We had to guess where to park. Our room - sea view on the 2nd floor was lovely - no complaints there. But again - no signage on the ground level for our room, which was 336. Other rooms had signage. Why not ours? In fact, signage was generally missing. We went for dinner at the bistro and walked around for ages in the pitch dark (very little lighting) trying to find the bistro. And watch out for steps - many steps around the place with no lighting. Yes, the reception did tell us to take the lift to level zero and turn - was it left or right? We expected a map in the room to guide us - but there was nothing. Generally, this hotel is desperate for some maintenance. Our balcony had a big chunk of plaster out of the wall, the walls were marked and screaming for some paint, woodwork everywhere dry and nasty. In fact, our balcony's woodwork seems to have woodworm. The planter on our balcony was decorated with the cigarette butts of previous guests. Some plants had been bought and placed in the planter and then forgotten. We could see similar neglected plants (some dead, some lying on their sides) on other balconies. No channels worth watching on the TV and only one easy and one upright dining room chair in the room. The reception toilet had been wallpapered back in its day and never maintained. Every single joint line was peeling apart (badly). There were old (loo paper?) attachments on the walls - no longer being used. If you're elderly or perhaps have difficulty with stairs, make sure your room is close by and on the ground floor.

Yesterday morning (14 May), I was invited to a breakfast at this esteemed establishment the Oubaai Hotel and Spa. On entering the breakfast room, the first thing that I noticed were the filthy windows. And I know the place is next to the sea and this fact is a problem but I too live next to the sea so I know what it takes to keep windows clean. Then it was time to start eating, with a serving of either fruit, or cereal, or the traditional bacon and egg type breakfast. We were informed by guests there before us, not to drink the coffee from the machine but rather that the kitchen make us fresh coffee. Well that was a 15 minute saga to get our coffee and when we did, it was without either warm or cold milk. When it came to the breakfast itself they ran out of scrambled eggs and the hot food stuffs were anything but hot / warm. The "container" which had scrambled egg in it was empty and was that way for the duration of our breakfast. As we left, so a fresh batch arrived. No, we were not the last to arrive we were there pretty early with golfers streaming in ready for the days fun. The table at which we sat, had a damaged top surface with the chipboard exposed. We were told later that there were issues with the cooking equipment in the kitchen. While that may well be true - problem solve the problem - the dilemma isn't any concern of paying guests. The kitchen lacks hands on management. But wait that’s not all. The family I was with, who were guests at the hotel not with one room but three huge suites, had booked a private function room at the clubhouse for 14 people for a 50th birthday. When we got there, and that after confirming in the afternoon that all was prepared for our arrival, we witnessed that our function room had been occupied by another group of people. It’s a guess-did they walk in and just take over the function room or were they escorted to the function room without checking or was there a double booking? What goes through me is that a traditional Afrikaans surname cannot be confused with an African name / surname - the point I’m making is the people that took over our function room would definitely not have an Afrikaans surname so that should have set off an alarm bell something isn’t right with the welcoming receptionist. I’ll cut the story short - from this point onwards at the last moment we hastily had to find another venue in George to accommodate 14 people for the celebration. I believe the Oubaai owners ought to know their business (based on our experience) isn’t in good shape and neither is it in good hands.

We were met by two very friendly security ladies at the entrance/boom and guided to the reception. Here again another very friendly lady by the name of Patience met us and upon checking us in, informed us that the room were not ready. She made us at ease and gave us some ideas to keep us busy but after an hour of waiting, I approach her again and she could not tell us how long it will still take to get a room ready. She and the elderly receptionist really tried hard but seems the "cleaning supervisor" didn't want to have any of it. Then we realized we are not the only visitors waiting for a room and decide it is best to travel back to Cape Town after 16h00. We were approached at our car by a Team Leader named Sherwin who overheard our conversation and tried to change our minds by offering us a free dinner but the hype were already gone to overnight as to what my friends had described as an awesome experience with their visit. The employees interacting with us deserve 5 stars. Your "back office supervisor with an attitude and her staff a big fat ZERO. Please share our appreciation with those friendly staff members who still made us feel special.

Quite a strange, disjointed place. Not pretty at all - in fact it looks a bit industrial. It seems very understaffed, and doesn’t compare to its rivals at Simola and Pezula at all. Rooms are ok - nice bathrooms. The tv is tiny. No restaurant to speak of. No atmosphere - all very odd.
