This historical Cape Dutch Manor house is centrally located adjacent to the N2 highway, just 11 minutes from the Newlands Rugby Stadium and only 15 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. Connecting business travelers to a vast commercial office complex that houses numerous national and multinational companies, all whilst escaping to a view of beautiful lush gardens. And while the current manor house dates back to approximately 1880, records indicate that the site has been settled since the 1660s. The hotel will offer guests a comfortable, period sensitive lounge in which to socialise or hold meetings, as well as breakfast and a swimming pool at which to relax. Attractions in close proximity to the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Town Mowbray are Table Mountain, Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Camps Bay and Clifton Beaches, V&A Waterfront, Cavendish Square, Cape Town Convention Centre, Green Point Urban Park, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and the Riverclub Golf Range.

We stayed here to be able to catch an early departure flight. There is not much to do here- there is nowhere to walk close by- a taxi would be needed. The old style charm was quaint and charming. The pool was closed for the winter, so our 9yo was disappointed. The rooms were tidy and clean, updated. The Wild Fig restaurant was amazing. One of the best meals we have had.

Although this hotel has loads of quaint and historic charm, there are a few items that detract from the pleasure of the charm. The rooms do not all have showers, the rooms are not immune to the road noise during the night and the wailing sirens chasing past in the early hours is disturbing. Additionally the noise during the night of other guests passing by on the balcony is irritating, couple this to the TV from next door being on so loud it reverberates through the wall as well. Plumbing noises can also be heard from below and on either side. Although we were not subjected to any rain, it is puzzling as to how one would stay dry getting to the reception area with out an umbrella, as there is no covered access from the room security gate to reception. The breakfast is a normal hotel breakfast with buffet style self service ranges of pastries, fruits, cereals, etc. and then the usual hot eggs and accompaniments. Whilst this is a convenient location for access to Cape Town and surrounding suburbs, it does have drawbacks. On the positive side though, all the staff encountered were more than obliging and welcoming. From the gardeners to the receptionists and the waiters, all were outstanding in the manner of dealing with guests. This in itself made a huge difference in experiencing this hotel.

Although this Protea Hotel is quite close to our home, we go there for weekend breakaways from time to time. It is set in a tranquil environment, and the service is of a high standard. Highly recommended

Combining the old and the new perfectly. This was probably the best appointed hotel room I've stayed in. Everything you need is there. Even a small kitchenette with Microwave and fridge. Lovely mattress - I could sleep like a baby. Only negative: the aircon is rather noisy. The breakfast was excellent. Both hot or cold sections. Service also very professional.

Stayed at the Protea Hotel Mowbray for a family break for four nights in the two bedroom suite. From the time we arrived, Pam and Zora at Reception were friendly and helpful which made a lovely and great first impression of the hotel. The suite was big and clean. The beds were super comfortable and the mini kitchen and separate sitting area made it feel like home away from home (the place is much more impressive seeing it in person!) The staff were attentive and quick to respond to room service requests. The breakfast choice was good and the restaurant staff in particular Tabiso and Thami were just as lovely. The hotel does not serve lunch and dinner although there is a restaurant for lunch and dinner within the hotel premises - The Wild Fig - great place. A lot more eating places are within a short distance and a short Uber ride from the hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, close to the Airport and the Waterfront but it feels like you are far away in the country away from the bustle and noise of the city centre. We would stay at the place over and over again.
