We had a wonderful stay! Derwent House is conveniently situated within walking distance of a selection of excellent restaurants. We loved the eclectic, Afrochic decor and the attention to detail. Spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need to ensure an enjoyable stay. Armin and Anahid will be certain to give you a warm welcome and great service. We will be back!
We recently stayed at the Derwent House while on our honeymoon. In its entirety, it was the best hotel I have stayed at. Each day starts with a full breakfast spread of fresh juice, oatmeal, pancakes, yogurt and more. The staff is there to greet you as they offer to make you a coffee or tea and ask you about your plans for the day to see if they can offer any advice. While you're out visiting Cape Town, housekeeping will tidy up your room and leave you a warm water bladder to have you coming back to a cozy bed. Before making your way up to your room, you're greeted at the door with a nightcap on the house with a warm smile from the staff asking about your day. In addition to some chocolate treats you'll get on your bed, the staff also prepares a suggestion of activities to do for the following day with detailed descriptions. It's also worth noting the unique layout of the hotel. It feels more like you're in a large house as the common area and dining area invites guests to mingle. We made friends with visitors from Texas, New York, France, London and Australia. The decor and layout felt homey while having some lounge-like feelings with the deck, pool and hottub. Last, and most important, is the people that work at Derwent House. Always with a big smile on their face, their genuine interest in you as a guest stood out more than any other hospitality experience I've had. We found ourselves several times in deep conversation with them. This stay is the complete experience, near great restaurants, and at a very reasonable price. Cannot recommend this place enough to provide a great experience. P.S. Ask them about day tours - they set us up with 2 that were amazing.…
Lovely boutique hotel below Table Mountain. Beautiful interior with lovey amenities and a great selection for breakfast. Pool and hot tub are available. We booked a room with a deck that overlooks the pool and had a view of the harbor. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially Berwen and Luca, who both went out of their way to make the stay friendly and personable.
I have stayed a number of times at Derwent House and they continue to amaze me with their hospitality and warmth. The Derwent team, led by the most wonderful and charismatic owners, truly go the extra mile to make your stay memorable and special. Highly recommmend!!!
Room was comfortable and lovely looking onto courtyard with pool. Luca, Patience and all the team were very thoughtful and helpful. Everyone came across as genuine nice people. Location handy for Kloof Street and a very quick uber or stroll down to the waterfront or up table mountain. Breakfast was good and everyone helped provide me with excellent coffee and tea whenever i needed it! Will definitely try to stay again when next in Cape Town.
This was our second time staying at Derwent House and we are so happy they survived Covid. Luca and his team always go the extra mile for us, from the thoughtful arrival coffee and water to the beautiful pool, freshly prepared breakfast and the afternoon wine and gin bar. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable and the beds are amazing for a peaceful sleep. Parking on site and within 10 minutes of almost all the famous Cape Town landmarks you cannot go wrong with its positioning to be in the heart of all the tourist activities. We will be back! Thank you Derwent House team!
Seven of us travelled to SA with our first stay being in Cape Town. We arrived at Derwent house to a warm welcome from Luca and Derwent family. I say family because that's how they made us feel, like long lost arriving family. From the moment you step through the front door into the welcoming lounge area you know this place is something special. Beautifully decorated with an abundance of quirky nik naks and art. The rooms are beautifully presented, more quirky art with large comfortable beds. Our room doors opened onto the pool area, scattered with table, sunbeds and shady spots to sit. A few steps out from the room a magnificent view of Table Mountain, the hotel being nestled on the slopes of this natural monument. At night, not a sound, the hotel is in a quiet area. It is within walking distance of many bars and restaurants and a short taxi ride away from all the sites. We hired a minibus which we kept in the locked hotel car park. The breakfast was simply wonderful, a wide selection breads, fruit, yogurt based fruit mixes, cold meats, cheese, toast, condiments galore and a wide range of cooked options. The helpfulness of all the Derwent crew cannot be overstated, from the day to day looking after us to buying and fitting a sim card so we could use local taxi services with ease. The friendliness & kindness of all the team is what really put the icing on the cake for us. Everyone had a big smile, all the time. Would we stay again, yes. Would we stay anywhere else in Cape Town, no.…
The other 5-star reviews say it all and I agree with them completely: it really is an amazing hotel. I wish there were more hotels like this in the world - but it's the staff that you won't find elsewhere - just truly friendly and helpful - Patience, Berwen, and Luca all made our stay so pleasant. Even when we had to cancel twice because of Covid, we received a friendly response from the hotel owner. We stayed four nights in early April. Our room was no. 3 upstairs from the entrance lobby - we had a wide balcony overlooking the pool and could see Table Mt. off to the side. Beautifully decorated with everything one needed. The best was coming back from a day of touring and entering our room to have lovely music playing softly on the sound system - I liked it so much that they gave me the you tube link so I could listen to it at home. The other delightful touch was the delicious carrot cake that was available in the afternoon (and sometimes other cakes). Couldn't resist it! Glad we chose this hotel over the big hotels at the waterfront. Also, we booked two full-day tours with a guide associated with the hotel. Roger was fantastic - very easy to be with - he took us to both the Winelands and the Cape of Good Hope. Hiring a driver/guide makes it easy for those of us who drive on the wrong side of the road. I highly recommend Derwent House!…
In the past we have stayed in the V&A waterfront area, so this year we decided to try Derwent, which is in a residential area just off Kloof Street. It was definitely the right decision - we stayed at Derwent for 6 nights at the beginning of our SA stay and again for 4 nights at the end of our time in SA. Derwent has a cosy, small hotel feel which made us immediately feel at home. A super comfortable bed + relaxing pool area + delicious breakfast + yummy afternoon treats + restaurants close by = a great stay. Thank you Armin, Anahid, Luca and the Derwent team for making our time in Cape Town even more special! We look forward to staying with you again next year.
Due to omicron travel restrictions we were the only guests at the hotel, but the staff pulled out all the stops to make our stay a perfect one and treated us like family. The location is excellent in a quiet area just steps away from Kloof St and dozens of restaurants. We stayed in the suite which was basically a small apartment with a separate lounge area, kitchenette and a beautiful outdoor terrace. Every attention to detail is taken care of from local recommendations, reservations, complimentary snacks, drinks and nightly turndown service. On Christmas morning they made a Christmas themed breakfast just for us with crackers to pull. They even gave us both thoughtful Christmas gifts. We would 100% recommend!
