We stayed here for 5 nights. The service was mostly excellent. The room was large and in good condition, was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent, overlooking the harbour and Table Mountain in the distance. The tiny swimming pool and sun lounger area is across the road and up some steps in small sister hotel. We spent a few hours there one afternoon and it was peaceful but if this was something you would want to do a lot perhaps another hotel would be better. Only other thing to mention. We were overlooking the front of the hotel so was quite noisy in the day with musicians etc so no good if you like an afternoon nap. It was fine at night. It also overlooked a building with scaffolding around it so at some point building work will be happening so might be worth checking with the hotel before you book. If you paid for the more expensive rooms overlooking the harbour you would have heard banging from 7.30 onwards in the morning(particularly on one side of the hotel) with some building work currently going on nearby. Again something to bear in mind if you like a lie in. Overall it was a very positive experience and we would stay again.…
The hotel is fine and nothing out of the ordinary. The room we were in was small and not helped by the steeply sloping ceiling (the loft rooms). The aircon was a bit temperamental and I think the load shedding threw it out of sync before the generator kicked in again. Food was ok and breakfast staff were a bit glum as if they really didn't want to be there. That said, the location is absolutely first class with very safe and easy access to all the surrounding bars and restaurants. It is a fe minutes away from the Nelson Mandela Gateway for trips to Robbin Island. (Don't book a package to get to the island. Just pre purchase a boat ticket). The sister hotel across the road has a (small) swimming pool but a very good area for relaxation around it. There is no problem with valet parking and the roads round about are easy to negotiate.…
Sadly a bit dated needs an upgrade. Can’t fault the location and the view from the breakfast terrace was amazing. Building work outside our room wasn’t appreciated! Friendly staff but inattentive and slow. Valet parking was useful.
We spent three nights here before a Garden Route cruise and one night after the cruise. For the first three nights we were in an attic room with a view of the harbour and Table Mountain, on our return to the hotel they kindly upgraded us to a suite overlooking the front of the hotel. Both rooms were spacious and very well appointed. We ate breakfast every morning and it was excellent. We often had a drink in the bar and it was always a friendly atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and there was always a friendly face at every contact. This hotel is now one of our favourites ever!
The photos don't do the place justice. Great rooms and stunning views. Staff all friendly and couldn't fault our night here. During our stay we booked an airport transfer from reception, we asked how much this was and informed it was max R400 and we pay cash to driver. During check-out the transfer was late so a member of staff drove us in the hotel car instead. However when we arrived at the airport we were asked to pay R900. We didn't have this cash, we had taken out R700 (for taxi and airport spends). The driver said it's ok they will take what we have, leaving us with no cash. This left a sour taste of our experience with the hotel, and I'd recommend people just use Uber to get back to the airport (at around R300).
If you're coming from overseas, this is probably one of the best spots to be for safety as it's right on the waterfront where you have a lot of security 24/7! I would have given this 5 stars (considered leaving 3 instead of 4), however we flew in from Australia and arrived at after not sleeping for 17 hours, we specifically booked a king bed and when we arrived we had two singles pushed together. The hotel was quite full and we had to wait a whole day before our room was changed. The rooms are MASSIVE, it's quite an old hotel so you find things like the shower door doesn't close fully and the sinks don't drain well. Hotel staff are great, food was always amazing - there was construction when we were there so we were forced to use a valet service for parking (which was free) but your car would be parked in the closed car park 5-10 minutes away, which would lead to you waiting for your vehicle for up to 30 minutes sometimes.…
What a fabulous vista to enjoy here with dramatic views to Table Mountain and Alfred Basin on Cape Town Waterfront. This IS the place to enjoy English Breakfast Tea, Coffee or a glass of wine. Gr8 for people watching and enjoying the African ambiance. We had the perfect fresh muffin and chocolate croissant, as a late 11's. But the menus too are most mouthwatering. Will be back to this perfectly sun protected open Verandah again and again yummy...
Professional staff, tremendous views, super comfy bed, excellent breakfast, with a comprehensive choice of hot. And cold items. The Turkish eggs were particularly tasty! Car parking service top class, wonderful concierge services. Would come again. Thank you.
A well loved hotel for over 30 years but this visit was somewhat disappointing. Maybe influenced by the high number of visitors at this time of year. I have stayed here every year since the hotel opened and it is genuinely one of my favourite hotels. The view and location are still unsurpassed but I think its time the rooms were updated as they are showing signs of wear. But the famous breakfasts are not as elaborate any more - still a great choice but not as wide and varied as before. The restaurant staff are friendly, the service is good but they tend to spoil the experience by talking very loudly between themselves. But definitely worth a repeat staying because of its location, the stunning views and convenience to shops and restaurants nearby.
Four magic words - you must stay here! We had a restful, enjoyable and happy time at this wonderful property. Everyone was exquisite - Muneba, Yonique, Babs, Sarah, Josh, and so many others whose names I can't remember. Rooms were clean, spacious and quiet. The location is to die for - there are over 20 restaurants within a five minute walk, as well as banks, commercial centers, and 15 sunset cruises to choose from. Everyone was smiling - like - all the time! We rented a car for various Cape drives and it was a bit trafficky on the re-entry but we figured that's life given the amazing location of V&A. We found the value more than justified and I can't can't wait to come back here - V&A Hotel and Cape Town itself! Thanks everyone!
