This was a week of luxury and excellent service. The room was outstanding and with the concierge assistance of Kimberley we had an amazing week exploring the sights of Cape Town. Meals were always excellent and high tea was not to be missed. Breakfast was always fabulous. As we stayed over a week we appreciated staff remembering our names and preferences.

It’s always a great pleasure to be back at the Mount Nelson Hotel, my home at the most distinguished address in Cape Town. What makes this hotel so special, grandeur, elegance, style, comfort, nine acres of gardens and the most wonderful complement of loyal staff who give one hundred and fifty per cent to ensure guests have the highest level of service. Arriving at the front entrance Mbuso was there to greet me with a tray of hand towels, a thoughtful touch before escorting me to reception. There l was welcomed ‘back home’ by Crystal with a genuine smile which stretched from ear to ear. Whilst completing formalities l was offered a glass of chilled sparkling wine. Escorting me to my room Crystal stopped to show me the changes made to the lounge, different layout, new colours to the chairs and a tea/coffee station. Yet still retaining its English County House look. My preferred room had once more been allocated and housekeeping added several additional items l always request. During the whole of my stay the room was kept spotless by an invisible team of housekeeping staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. This hotel also offers a turndown service in the evenings, which is becoming a luxury now days. Likewise public areas are also immaculate. The lounge which is the heart of the hotel is where the famous Afternoon tea is served, a time to relax listening to the sounds of the piano whilst enjoying a selection of finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and delicious cakes and pastries. In the morning ideal venue for a coffee and later drinks before an evening out. Do ask Sivu or Pinky to reserve you a table otherwise you could be disappointed and the lounge is fully booked. Cheslyn who always remembers my favourite tea, is a real professional, attentive and friendly when serving me. In the Planet Bar you will find Nelson and Sim with their wide knowledge of wines and drinks who will come over for a chat but watching continuously to see no one is waiting and being ignored. Breakfast served in the Oasis restaurant offers an enormous buffet selection, cereals, juices, cold meats, cheeses and fish, hot dishes and a Chef on duty to prepare eggs, omelette or pancakes. Weather permitting you can sit out on the terrace looking out over one of the two swimming pools and beautiful manicured gardens which Willy and the other gardeners tend each day. The Red Room is a stunning new restaurant opened in what was once the Grill Room. The Oriental menu is a new experience for the Nellie and appears to be a big hit being fully booked on the night of my visit. One side of the lobby is reception where Crystal and Busi can be found and they always wished me a lovely day when l was on the way out or ‘Welcome Back’ when l returned or there to change currency for me. On the other side is the Concierge desk, home of Nellie’s own ‘Fountain of all knowledge’ Muchi, head concierge, who knows where the best restaurants, bars or shows can be found in Cape Town or which vineyards offer a top wine tasting experience. His very able assistant, whos’ name escapes me, but also wears a pink jacket, also gave great service whilst l was at the hotel, changing over my sim card, amending reservations, offering directions to name but a few. One of the first and last staff members you meet will be the outside team. All of them work hard in all weathers, to fetch your car, deliver your luggage up to your room, help with your shopping bags and always do so with a genuine smile, so thank you to Mbuso, Tsepho, Courage, Lindile and Mandisi who all did a splendid job. Coming home l bought many cherished memories with me of a wonderful stay, THANK YOU all at the Nellie.

We very much enjoyed staying away from the waterfront, away fro the noise of it, but close enough to shuttle. The Belmond was a very nice hotel, much as we expected. More old world charm versus new, flashy hotel

We only had one night at the "Nellie" before starting a country-wide tour but the place was great. Rooms were beautiful, staff helpful, and location easy. The Lord Nelson game room was special. And the breakfast was out of this world. Even the sunrise was to due for. Hopefully we will be back!!

We went to the Mount Nelson for Sunday Jazz Brunch as part of an anniversary weekend celebration. The food is served as a buffet, with a very wide range of tastes covered - from sushi and oysters, through curry and mezze, to salads and Sunday roast, with of course fruit, bread, cheese and a wide range of cakes. The baked cheesecake was a triumph! Throughout the meal Bongile served us attentively. We took the option of bottomless sparkling wine, which was very much worth it. The jazz band made it more of an event, giving great atmosphere. Precious kept an eye on us and came over at the end to make sure we had had a good experience. A lovely treat at the end was that we both got a gift dessert in a box for our anniversary to take away.

Absolutely beautiful and comfortable hotel. Old world charm is present throughout both the interior and in the amazing gardens. It's beauty is surpassed only by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Would definitely want to stay here again when in Cape Town.

From arrival to departure we felt valued and welcome. Of note were Kimberly from concierge services- we felt she was there just for us…and invested in our experiences. Keegan, Sommelier, offered great wine and even better conversation. We are eager to return and share some of our favorite wines with him- he made it special for us and we made a friend. James with Guest experience helped coordinate our special events and took a great interest in our happiness. What an amazing team!!! It is so great to go somewhere where there is long term staff. We’ll be back!!
