It's an interesting, though slightly seedy area, security is tight and you are warned not to leave anything in your car, which has to be parked on the street. But the views are spectacular and the hosts couldn't be be more friendly and helpful. The rooms are very spacious. Excellent value for money.

we arrived quite late on but Katrin was very hospitable- showed us around explained what we needed to know and was on hand should we need anything else. Breakfast was included and was a buffet style, plenty of choice. The terrace over looks the best views of Table mountain and the city- i could even lie in my bath and see the clouds spill over the mountain! The place was clean and clearly run efficiently. I would recommend it- however there is quite a steep hill to get to it- most places with good views in the city tend to be on a good slope- but a taxi from the V and A for example if very cheap. Rooms were modern and spacious, there was a pool too but we didn't have time to take a dip. We booked through a hotels website and out of all the places we booked only Katrin got in touch to confirm the booking and offered helpful advice in advance of our arrival- even started the ball rolling for us to hire a car locally too. Apart from the hill i could not think of a single fault.

Upperbloem is a breath of fresh air. Katrin is the most caring host I have encountered in all my travels - ever! She goes out of her way to make everyone feel most welcome. The accommodation is no-frills but very comfortable, very clean and fantastic value. You can even get your laundry done for a knock down price. Upperbloem sits very high up in Cape Town and the view of Table Mountain from the breakfast room and shared balcony is awesome. Breakfast comprises nice breads, cheese, pastries fruit, fruit juice, tea, coffee etc. Jardine's, the restaurant just down the hill serves very good food. The only drawback - the walk back up the hill. Taxis are cheap and a very good investment considering the hill, but if you did not have the hill you would not have the view

We arrived at midnight and were greeted by Katrin and offered a drink and shown to our rooms. She was available in her flat and was happy to answer queries. She gave us advice on good places to eat.

Upper Bloem is situated in a quiet mixed area at the top of a hill with superb views of the Waterfront and Table Mountain from the dining/sitting room. It is 10 minutes walk down to Long Street where there are several cafes/restaurants (longer back uphill!) and slightly less to a bus stop on the tourist bus service (only 1 stop from the cablecar to Table Mountain). Getting to the Waterfront is not really possible by tourist bus (the bus services only go in one direction) but involves a 35 minute walk or taxi ride which Katrin will arrange. However this disadvantage is more than outweighed by the view and opportunity to relax at Upper Bloem.

Bo Kaap is a quiet area of low density housing which seems very safe to walk around. Parking is not a problem on the streets. It would appear to be predominantly Muslim with three or four mosques in the area and the calls of the muzzein being heard at intervals throughout the day (and early morning!).

The rooms were fairly basic but very clean and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was self service and included coffee/tea, juice, joghurt, excellent rolls and bread, jam, cheese slices, muesli, fruit and sometimes muffins or cake.

The sun caught the dining/sitting and deck area from early morning to mid afternoon.

We started our car hire (a number of companies operate from a 15 minute walk radius of the guest house) on the last day to be able to visit Cape Point but could see little advantage in having a car for visiting the city and its environs. The tourist buses offer an excellent service and a bit of planning could make very good use of the service to see most of the sights.

We spent four nights here would definitely stay here again if we returned to Cape Town.

We had looked at several hotels in Cape Town before deciding to book an apartment at Upperbloem Steet . What a great decision Katrin the owner is such a lovely person.....patient, caring and very generous. There was always an offer of coffee, wine, beer or just a chat about the area or where to go. A very interesting lady who genuinely cares about her customers. The apartment was everything you needed on holiday. Clean, well stocked and fab views of table mountain and the harbour, lovely swimming pool, near restaurants and bars and safe!! So glad we didn’t stay in a corporate type hotel, we would never have experienced the local knowledge and vibe in Bo Kaap and surrounding areas. I would recommend this accommodation in a heartbeat, just book it you will not regret it.

We looked a quite a few hotels before deciding to rent a apartment at Upperbloem. What a great decision we made we could not have been made more welcome from the owner Katrin. She is at the top of her game when it comes to hospitality. She is patient, kind and generous, there was always time for a chat, a glass of wine, beer or coffee. The apartment was excellent, a five star view for a reasonable price. It had everything you could possibly need on holiday and the bathroom was fab, it even had a view of Table Mountain!! Good location, near to Bree Street and Long Street and the V&A only 5 minutes away by Uber. Also close to table mountain and the vineyard routes. We had such a lovely stay and have created memories we will cherish. Book this accommodation and you will not be sorry.

Early Check in is possible, but subject to availability. You can always come here straight from the airport, drop your luggage, have a coffee by the pool and a swim or a shower and relax or go sightseeing. We will have your apartment ready for you as early as possible, latest by 12.
