The Silo Hotel is a magical space towering above the V&A Waterfront surrounded by the natural wonder of South Africa’s Mother City. The Silo has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Zeitz MOCAA is a contemporary art museum that rivals the likes of the Tate Modern in London, MoMA in New York and Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. Zeitz MOCAA is a not-for-profit partnership between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, whose collection forms the Museum’s founding collection. The building has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. Heatherwick Studio was tasked with the transformation of the elevator house and the adjacent storage annex of six rows of seven silos, while carefully retaining its cultural significance.

Friends had stayed here and raved about the hotel so I was desperate to try it out for myself. My husband did balk slightly at the room prices but was completely delighted when he saw our deluxe suite. The views are incredible, the design is incredible and it was a wonderful experience. We stayed three nights and enjoyed the restaurant one night for dinner and every morning for breakfast and as you would expect the food was excellent. We also enjoyed the cocktail bar. Apart from the glorious surroundings, including an amazing roof top pool, what struck us was that every member of the staff seemed to be very happy in their work and so motivated to give every guest the best experience. Just Brilliant. We will be back.

Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most amazing hotels I’ve ever been to. The Silo Hotel in Cape Town, I visited this property in a family vacation since my grandparents reached a 50 year anniversary. We were 16 people in total and from the youngest to the oldest absolutely everyone loved the silo. All of the spaces inside the hotel are absolutely beautiful but not as great as the amazing service that it offers, the staff is very involved in the guest's wishes and preferences. For instance I’m a big fan of hot chocolate so I ordered one in the hotel’s restaurant for breakfast (which is amazingly accommodated in the top floor) I mentioned to one of the staffs that I had loved it, the other day in our daily wake up call a warm hot coco was waiting for me in the rooms living room. The staff at silo are professional for making every moment a “wow moment” I will forever cherish my stay at this beautiful property.

I had read a lot about this hotel and the sixth floor cocktail bar. Although we didn't stay in this hotel I would like to think the overall service is better than we experienced on an evening out? A very special birthday and wedding anniversary I was looking forward to a few cocktails with my husband to watch the Sun set from this bar. The building quite 'quirky' and the view wasn't too bad . However, the Gin cocktails we had were nothing special and not really 'dressed' as a cocktail? We meant to stay and enjoy before meeting some further friends and treating them to some drinks in this bar but when the 'waiter' came and asked if we were stopping for another drink (we had only just got the first one) or did we want the bill because he was going off duty....... we ordered a second drink and then left. Having been to Cape Town so many times and stayed in various places 'up market' and lower priced, I was sadly disappointed with this bar. Shame really as could be so much better.

When you travel, many elements will be remembered long after you return home. Sometimes, those things will be bad experiences, and you'll always remember how you felt when it happened. But if you're fortunate, you'll return home with wonderful experiences, and it will be the memories of how you felt then that you'll remember. Staying at The Silo is one of those wonderful experiences. We were only fortunate enough to spend one night here, as we were already booked for travel onwards. But we were so glad we had the chance. From the moment we arrived, to the moment that we (sadly) left, we felt welcomed in the hotel like we were old friends. We were always greeted by name, and always made to feel special. The duty manager, Irene BoaVentura, and the GM Luis Pinheiro stood out as people who went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The hotel is considered one of the finest luxury hotels in Africa, so I won't dwell on that. It's written about a lot already. But what stood out to me was how incredible the architecture and design was. The 6 floors of the hotel were all very high ceilinged, so every room feels big. The corner suite we stayed in felt massive. The bathroom was wonderful, bright and beautifully designed. The pillowed windows were a design feature that was just as interesting from the inside as it was from the outside. Every room was decorated in a unique style that made you feel like you're in a museum. Bedding was sumptuous, the living room seating was inviting. The welcome gift of bubbles and treats was a nice surprise, as was the open minibar. No small detail was missed. Food and service in each of the restaurants was exceptional. Every waitperson was at the top of their game. It was clear that they enjoyed working at The Silo. If you have the chance to stay at this hotel, you'll be happy you did. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. But we'll just have to return some day. And I bet they'll remember my name.

It was supposed to be a birthday lunch with friends, but it turned out to be a total disappointment. I give 3 stars because of the amazing views all round. Service was non-existent as soon as we sat down. No one knew what was going on. Eventually we had to ask a manager to fix things. Still, no waiter came. We decided to have cocktails first but wanted some snacks to go with them. Well, we waited and waited. The waitress eventually brought us drinks but no snacks. Then the snacks came, with a big gap in between. The food was presented on platters, without any side plates. The menu did not specify that the food = tapas. But, it was almost impossible to share. It was very sunny and we had to ask another waiter to move the umbrellas around for us, but only having waited for 10 min. We spent probably a disproportional amount of money on something ordinary and small. And if not because our hostess paid (it was her birthday) we would have complained!!!
