The Silo Hotel is a magical space towering above the V&A Waterfront surrounded by the natural wonder of South Africa’s Mother City. The Silo has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Zeitz MOCAA is a contemporary art museum that rivals the likes of the Tate Modern in London, MoMA in New York and Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. Zeitz MOCAA is a not-for-profit partnership between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, whose collection forms the Museum’s founding collection. The building has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. Heatherwick Studio was tasked with the transformation of the elevator house and the adjacent storage annex of six rows of seven silos, while carefully retaining its cultural significance.

I am only reviewing the rooftop bar (and the courteous staff) of the Siloh Hotel because we were not staying at the Siloh Hotel. This is not necessary to visit the rooftop bar. We politely asked at reception if we could go up and after a minute of politeness, they showed us the way very kindly. When we got to the top, we were again greeted warmly by an employee and our small group was offered a table on the sunny side. The rooftop bar was well attended, lots of food was served that looked super delicious. We had a few great drinks and enjoyed the magnificent view of the city. Afterwards, an employee took us all the way up to the terrace, which is actually only intended for hotel guests. There we were also allowed to take photos that were not obstructed by railings/glass panes. One more word of praise for the dedicated hotel staff: On the way down, hotel employees asked us if any of us had lost a cell phone. And indeed, it belonged to someone in our group! In the meantime, the hotel staff had called the last contacts on their cell phones and landed in Germany. Thank you for that!

Upon arrival at this establishment, I was immediately struck by its understated elegance. The lobby exuded a quiet sophistication that set the tone for our entire stay. Our room was a haven of tranquility, with views that inspired contemplation. The staff's professionalism was impeccable, yet warmth permeated every interaction. The culinary offerings were nothing short of sublime, each dish a testament to the chef's artistry. In summation, this hotel represents a harmonious blend of luxury and comfort that left a lasting impression.

The Silo Hotel is more expensive than most hotels in Cape Town but there’s a reason why this is the case. The location, the esthetics, the space plan, the room size, and the service all combine to make the value worth the price. Quite simply, it’s worth it.
The hotel is a safe short walk to the heart of the V&A waterfront. The hotel has a sexy modern design. The rooms are comfortable. The bathroom is spacious and the shower water pressure is strong. The room had plenty of free items in the complimentary mini bar and there was always fresh fruit in the room.
The service level is exceptional, particularly with the staff serving breakfast. In addition to warm breakfast options, each breakfast starts out with pasties, fruit, yoghurt, smoked salmon, and more. Their coffee is great.
They make wonderful cocktails in the evening and their wine list is really strong, providing options for all price ranges.
The Silo Hotel is a world class hotel. 5 stars.

So obviously NOT a five star hotel. I would rate it 2 or, at best, 3 star. The reception is pokey and small. We had drinks on the Roof-Top Bar which is tawdry and clearly in need of a refurb. The swimming pool is a tiny dip that you cannot possibly swim in. At the end of our dinner there, the one hotel employee in reception said he would call a “hotel taxi” for us. A dilapidated car turned up with a taxi sign on the roof, which the driver immediately took down as we entered the taxi ( because it wasn’t fixed to the roof of the car ). The seat belts didn’t work and the handle fell off in my wife’s hands. The driver wanted to charge us R500 for our return drive to the Vineyard Hotel, but after 100 yards turned back because he said his car had a flat tyre. Eventually we got an Uber to The Vineyard for R230. For anyone wanting a real five star hotel in Cape Town, you must avoid this hotel.

Dear Paul, Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your concern. However, upon investigation, we believe you enquired about our complimentary hotel transfers, which are only available to guests who stay at the hotel. Our staff made every effort to arrange a taxi for you, but before they could secure one, a taxi arrived, and you chose to take it. Unfortunately, we cannot be held liable for outside service providers that are not affiliated with the hotel. We are also sorry to hear that you chose to rate the hotel on your experience with this external taxi service. We understand your frustration and share your concern regarding the way this driver handled your transfer. Warm Regards, Luis Pinheiro General Manager

My wife and I stopped by on Thursday Oct 19, 2023 around 9pm and was taken aback by the attitude of the male receptionist. We just wanted to enjoy the ambience and have a few cocktails. He was very matter of fact with his reply that it was fully booked and his demeanour was not customer friendly. He seemed a bit upset that he had to get off the call he was on. Your staff is not up to par for the rating given to your hotel. I understand customer service after working for 25 years with the world’s premier business jet company in the world, Gulfstream Aerospace. I know that our clientele would not appreciate this type of service. This was our worst customer experience in Cape Town and our first visit to South Africa.

The room was very well appointed with excellent plans to block out the vast amount of light. The restaurant food was excellent and great staff at the hotel. Only concern is that the service is very slow on the food and beverage side. Food or drinks took very very long to come in different venues, the room, swimming pool area. That said, once the food did arrive it was very good. Contemporary and interesting.

We booked online to have dinner at their Granary Cafe, last Sunday 13th February and requested pre dinner drinks at the rooftop bar and paid the requested online deposit. We arrived and were challenged by a lady in the foyer who then confirmed our reservation, passed us on to a man who escorted us in the lift to the restaurant on the 6th floor, they had no record of our rooftop drinks request but sent us up in the lift. We then had to explain again at there reception before being allowed in. The views were great but sitting next to people dining detracts from the experience. We had to clear the account before returning to the restaurant. The dining experience was disappointing, the ambiance was poor with a dominating servery looking quite scruffy. The food was adequate and the table service poor at best, nothing worse than wine stored away from the table and having to get the waiters attention to poor it. We were here two years ago where the whole experience was tremendous, it has certainly gone down hill since then.

From arrival you’ll be greeted by an enthusiastic staff determined to make you feel welcome and, almost, like a friend. I was traveling alone at Christmas and they went out of their way to make sure I was happy. The food was outstanding. Do the mini fish tacos at the bar! The room was chic and comfortable with a nice view of the harbor. The hotel sits in the safest part of Cap Town; the waterfront. The concierge and staff made sure my days were full and totally took care of all arraignments

We spent 3 nights here before embarking on safaris in South Africa and Botswana. Our first time in Cape Town and we were blown away by how beautiful and fun this city is.
Our base was the Silo Hotel and it is a small, boutique hotel with a few rooms on 4 floors, which we loved. Every room has a floor to ceiling view of the harbor and Table Top Mountain...truly spectacular. The rooms were comfy and very luxurious, with decent space and a huge bathroom with heated everything. More snacks and treats than you could even eat, for free, in the mini bar. We actually ate in the restaurant several times (breakfast and dinner) and the food was excellent. There is a small gym, but it is totally adequate. There is a spa but we didn't have time to indulge...but if it is up to the rest of the hotel experience I am sure you cannot go wrong. Every member of the staff was friendly, energetic and on their game. Not a single thing to complain about.
The hotel is pricey, and some friends said there are lower priced, nice options in Cape Town. I am not certain what they are but when we return we will for sure stay at the Silo Hotel again. Location is amazing and proximity to the harbor really make it a special spot. Pricey but worth it!!!

We booked this hotel last minute due to a dispute at another hotel. Definitely a pricey option but well worth it. The staff were incredible... the room and the views absolutely stunning. The location along the Waterfront is also great for walking around or shopping or dining at some pretty fantastic restaurants. I think my only criticism is how early the bar closes!

I am not sure about the bar, as I didn’t travel with children or teens. But tea in the dining area is just a nice and comfortable. They were extremely accommodating, perhaps shoot them an email and ask.

The room we occupied was very spacious, and we did peak into several others which all seemed generous.
It really depends on the level you book but call the hotel direct and they will give you sizes, if it is a concern
