The Silo Hotel is a magical space towering above the V&A Waterfront surrounded by the natural wonder of South Africa’s Mother City. The Silo has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Zeitz MOCAA is a contemporary art museum that rivals the likes of the Tate Modern in London, MoMA in New York and Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. Zeitz MOCAA is a not-for-profit partnership between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, whose collection forms the Museum’s founding collection. The building has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. Heatherwick Studio was tasked with the transformation of the elevator house and the adjacent storage annex of six rows of seven silos, while carefully retaining its cultural significance.

We had a fantastic stay at the Silo Hotel. The hotel itself was lovely and modern, and the location was great for sightseeing. The staff went out of their way to make the stay special, and we loved our tour with the hotel's tour guide George and the concierges were so helpful. I would highly recommend staying here and would stay here again myself next time I am in Cape Town!

Our stay at the Silo was fantastic. We were celebrating our anniversary, and they upgraded us to a gorgeous mini-suite corner room. We woke up each morning to a beautiful view of Table Mountain on one side, and a view of the V&A Wharf on the other. The room was luxurious and very accomodating, and the hotel is in an excellent location. The service was impeccable, the staff was very friendly and professional. The concierge staff was incredibly helpful with planning meals and tours. The breakfasts were delicious, with more food than you could possibly eat, and the view from the rooftop bar was amazing. We booked this as part of a Royal Portfolio package that included a stay at the Royal Malewane in the Kruger Reserve and a tour to the local vineyards and lunch at La Residence. I highly recommend this hotel and the Royal Portfolio properties.

Traveling: It is a long trip from Los Angeles but well worth it (about 20 hours)! We split the flight in two by at the Sheraton in the Charles De Gaulle airport (you can walk there inside the entire way). We checked in, cleaned up then hopped a cab to Fauchon in Paris for a snack/light dinner. Up early the next day to continue the trip Cap Town. Hotel: When we arrived at The Silo Hotel there were probably 4-5 gentlemen there to greet us. The entry lobby is small, artistic...modest. Once past the security and up the elevator you enter the main lobby. Very plush and artistic...highly designed and impressive. As you walk around 1st thing you notice is all exterior walls are windows. Some dimond cut as you have seen in pictures, some not. Everywhere in the hotel is a view. I won't elaborate to much however I can tell you it's, again, a highly designed hotel from architecture to the art on the walls and in the rooms. I would say more local modern art with traditional local art throughout. Visually the hotel is amazing (including the signature "dimond windows"). There is also a rooftop pool with 360 degree views of the area. The Room: Our room was amazing, two stories, two bedrooms, large living room, dinging area, etc. Perfect view of Table Mountain (almost 180 degree view of the city)! Decorated in black and red. Lots of art and comfortable places to sit to enjoy the view. I will post a few pics. Room services was excellent...they for sure aim to please. Food: The food was OMG good. The restraint in the main floor has a morning breakfast they was so so good we ate there every day. I can't say enough about the hotel. I highly recommend it! Location: The hotel is at the waterfront area. You can only walk to the local restaurants and shops. It is a tourist area so you get the feel when yo walk around. Food was good. There is also a big mall attached to the main waking area. If you want to get a feel for Cape Two start a the waterfront but move on quickly. We enjoyed the waterfront for a day then ventured on. I recommend eating at restaurants off the beaten path at night at least.

I can’t say enough about my recent stay at The Silo. Having stayed at luxury hotel properties across the globe, I can say that this one sets a new bar. The property is magnificent and at the same time comfortable. GM Luis Pinheiro has created a customer service model that delivers beyond expectations. The personal attention is intoxicating. Can’t wait to return!
