We booked at Whale cottage Franschhoek for May 2016. This was done in May 2015 and full amount paid. When we arrived there was no B&B. It had been sold and the owner had not notified us. On phoning her she was completely unhelpful and rude. after numerous emails to get our money back we have had no response. DO... More

This was the first stay of a trip life time, to say it was terrible is an understatement, we were advised by the owner Chris that due to the load shedding (electricity problems in SA) that there was no use of pool so we would be up graded, I hate to see what from! We had a mouldy fridge, dirt... More

We stayed there a couple of years ago and it hasn't improved! We weren't allowed to look at the rooms before having my credit card imprinted and the room my elder son and daughter-in-law were in turned out to be a disgrace. Continued promises to fix the air-conditioning etc, but nothing done. The owner hung up on us twice when... More

I totally agree wit the comment of mlukan. After our arrival the first action of the owner was collecting our credit cards to get the money. After checking the rooms we have seen a damaged and much too small bed for two children.Chris was not willing to add two more places to sleep while all other rooms have been empty.... More

I paid for a month's accommodation including a deposit based on a month's rental. At the start of the process Chris was pleasant and I proceeded with the booking and the moment I had paid she turned into the rudest person I have dealt with. She kept changing the terms, I was not allowed to contact her but only by... More

We regret having not checked out the reviews on this place before booking and paying for this accommodation. We would never have have stayed at this place. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment. We booked last minute and after searching for days and getting desperate, this was the only place that was available. That should have been a red... More

The Problems at Whale Cottage. 1). We asked for the Towels to be changed. The Owner (Chris) said that she only changes them if anyone stops up to a Week. We were there for 4 Days, I thought this was unacceptable. She even turned around and said that they would hang them over the Doors. 2). There were dead insects... More

The reviews are very clear. This is a place with big problems. We had the same difficulties as many others - beginning with issues about gaining access and checking in. In our case, the owner was spectacularly rude to my wife in the presence of other guests. As one does in such moments, we thought about just leaving there and... More

We've just returned from a trip to Cape town and I felt strongly about warning people against staying at Whale Cottage. It was the lowlight of our trip! I unfortunately never read all the bad reviews for Whale cottage before booking - big mistake!. I agree fully with all the terrible ratings they've been given. The place is run down,... More

Arrived to a greeting of "what do you want" our reply being we have a reservation. Owner "Chris " argued and we produced reservation. Room was not ready and the owners attitude was appalling. The guest house is looking "Tired" and I question the general cleanliness from towels that need softener to hand wash dispenser which is broken. We had... More
