Perfect stay! From the gin cart to the library, the sprawling art collection to the wine and brandy tastings, everything about this place is GREAT! The staff are so, so professional and friendly, the views are amazing and the rooms are extremely comfortable. We'll definitely stay here again if/when our travels ever take us to CT.
This boutique property was so very special, truly a home away from home in Cape Town. We originally booked our Africa trip in 2018 for 2019 but had to postpone it when my mother passed away three days before our planned departure. Ellerman House was so very understanding, and agreed to move our stay to 2020. Of course, then came two years of COVID-19, so we couldn't travel in 2020 or 2021. We finally got to go this year, and it was worth the wait. After 10 days in safari camps, we arrived at Ellerman House after being met at the airport by their driver Aslam. They upgraded us to the fabulous Ellerman Suite, where we were surrounded by amazing original artwork and beautiful ocean views. The staff was so gracious, and Kenny was a standout. We toured the house's art collection and gallery with curator Talita Swarts, who made us much smarter about South African art. She even helped us purchase a piece to have shipped back home. We loved this property and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town.…
This is possibly my favourite hotel in the world and I (we) have been to many. The situation on the hill provides an arresting view of the sea below with the sea crashing over the rocks One day there was mist which settled below the buildings further down providing a wonderful vista. The hotel is Edwardian in age and has all the attributes associated with the architectural period. Rooms seem to multiply all over the house, all with wonderful artwork. In fact the art is considered to be the best South African collection in private hands. One may take a tour with a guide who is so knowledgeable about the artists etc. Our room was a deluxe house room. This had its own veranda with sun loungers and table and chairs. It was very comfortable with a huge bathroom complete with bath and walk-in shower. The delight was a hot water bottle as it was winter. This was a thoughtful addition. Food is excellent. The breakfast is sumptuous. The continental element comprises a range of fresh fruit, cold meats and delicious home baked pastries. One may ask for yoghurt. Then comes the hot alternatives. Coffee or tea is seemingly endless It is enough to satisfy one's hunger for the entire day until dinner. The selection at dinner is restricted to a few choices but this is not a negative as these are excellent. One may also request a dish. We did asking for bobotie which was delicious. There is also the room service menu which may be used as an alternative dinner menu with items such as burgers. The hotel is noted for its wine. There is a special building which is used for tastings. It has an unusual feature or two which continue the artistic theme of the entire hotel. One relates to the wine 'rack' this is in the shape of a corkscrew and contains many bottles (1500), albeit not all of the hotel's stock. The other is the wall which exhibits the terroir from many of the country's vineyards. It is fascinating to see the significant differences in the soils. We were fortunate to happen upon Manny and had a long chat re the wine, the cellar and the hotel. Maybe the best aspect is the staff. All are wonderful. We gossiped with all and sundry and had many moments of fun and laughter. The only person we wish to single out among a stellar workforce is Shinay. One of our suitcases had not made it from Dar es Salaam. She pounced on Airlink as a terrier with a rat and the offending bag was reunited with us quickly . In fact I feared for the airline if it was not retrieved in an appropriate time.…
The Ellerman House superior experience is most probably, impossible to improve upon. While the property is excellent in all respects, the most unforgettable component is its people from the gate to the gate.
My husband and I were lucky enough to stay 4 nights at this lovely property in early August. The house if perfectly situated, drenched in class and elegance, with stunning views and a world class art collection. On top of this is the amazing quality of service you receive from every staff member from cleaners to front-of-house. The food is delicious, the cocktails are tasty, sunsets to die for. Ellerman House is all around an exceptional place. If you're in Cape Town and can afford to stay here, look no further. This place is amazing. We hope to go back!
Ellerman House is a true gem. The views and service were spectacular at this one of kind property. The artwork alone would be a reason to stay here. It's a true oasis that never felt crowded when we were there.
Look no further in Cape Town! Ellerman House is absolutely beautiful, the most delicious food, and gorgeous views, but the incredible service is what makes Ellerman House special. We were constantly greeted with a smile and nothing was too much to ask. The 24-hr pantry was such a fun treat. It is truly one of our most favorite hotels anywhere in the world. Thank you to each and everyone at Ellerman House. We will be back!
Please do yourself a favor and book this stay for your Cape Town lodging! Every single person was so welcoming and provided us the best time. The service is top notch and you will not find this kind of stay anywhere else. The grounds are incredibly beautiful as well. Be sure to check out the art gallery and wine cellar too! Just a fantastic place to stay overall.
It is hard to find something to compare with Ellerman House as we have never met before such a good excellent team that treated us like royals... this is more than home from home, it is a diamond in the rough and hard to find, hard to leave. Thank you all and thanks to our friends for this great recommendation
I have stayed in many luxury hotels around the world but never have I experienced the level of luxury and service that I did at the Ellerman House. From the moment we walked in until we left our every need, no matter how small, was attended to. The grounds, rooms and facilities were all immaculate and well cared for. Food, wines and drinks were benchmark and staff was amazing. This is defiantly a must if you are in Capetown and you will not regret the stay and experience here!
