Stayed here for 4 nights. Let me start by saying the staff here were friendly. Lea at check in was bubbly, full of life and very welcoming. Wendy and Tammy (who had recently got engaged) at the check in desk were also friendly as were Denise and Thandie at breakfast. Location is also lovely, less than a minute walk to the seafront where you can see a glorious sunset but no good for swimming. The site seeing city bus also stops right outside. There is a Spar supermarket less than 5 minute was away and further on is a small shopping mall. Nice hash browns at breakfast the first morning. Arrived before check in time and was told room wasn’t ready which wasn’t an issue as we were heading straight back out. While grabbing some stuff from our suitcases we were told the room was indeed ready so took bags upstairs. Spacious room with a bed and TV on one end, a sofa and coffee table and kitchenette with sink, cupboards, small stove and fridge next to small table and 2 chairs on other end. The stay was for hubby’s birthday and they brought a slice of chocolate cake, a cupcake and some chocolate. Very kind. Spacious bathroom with separate shower and bath. Washed my hands before heading out and realised the bathroom sink was blocked so we asked on our way out if someone could sort it. Had a whole day out and came back to find sink was still blocked. Someone came to look at it and said we’d have to wait for maintenance the next morning. In the meantime he removed the stop which wasn’t great because if anything fell into sink it would be lost. There was also a smell coming from the drain. The next morning as we left the hotel we again reminded them about the sink. After another entire day out we returned to find the sink was still blocked and when we asked if anyone had to come look at it no one had any idea. As the maintenance guy had again left for the day they decided to move us to a room on the same floor. As it was around the corner I decided that instead of packing everything back into suitcase only to unpack again I’d do a couple of trips. While Tammy was showing us the room a small cockroach ran in. I initially thought it was some other kind of insect till she pointed out it was a roach and she didn’t like them, nor did I. She stepped on it and I thought that was the end of that. After I brought the first lot of items over, the keycard stopped working so I returned to reception to get it re-validated but when I reached the room it wasn’t working. Back down, another key. Still not working. Annoying. By this time Tammy realised there must be something wrong with the key card mechanism on the door. She gave me the mastery and said someone would come to look at the door. We got everything in the room and then another roach, larger than the first came running out. I screamed and my husband grabbed a shoe. Rang downstairs to say we were uncomfortable with room but they just sent someone up with a can of insect spray who spayed the room behind the sofas etc. picking up another dead roach she found. I ensured all the windows and the balcony door were firmly shut and thought that would be the end of that. Just as we had settled as much as we could, there was a knock on the door and the guy had come to change the key card mechanism. Slept a little uneasy. The next evening when we returned to our room - another four roaches. There was also a roach by the fire door on our floor. No idea where they were coming from. I rang reception and they brought up a can of spray. I had a completely sleepless night scared of where I’d find them next. The next morning I literally saw 2 baby roaches run up the bath plug hole. I went to reception and said something had to be done as we couldn’t stay in that room and was assured they’d do something by the time we returned. That something was for us to move room and Lea came to help with our bags. Our third room for a 4 night stay. They also gave us a voucher for a meal at the bar. Nice gesture but too little too late. It was off season and hotel was very quiet - 2 mornings we didn’t see anyone else at breakfast- so why weren’t we moved sooner? 4 nights at a hotel and it was only our last night that we had a comfortable room with no blocked sink nor roaches. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel didn’t seem dirty in any way or like the kind of place you would at all expect to see cockroaches and as we kept the windows and balcony doors shut I can only assume they were coming from kitchen and bathroom drains. Yes it is Africa but I wouldn’t expect that a hotel of this standard would keep any guest in a room with roaches knowing full well they were empty rooms available. Whether this was a management decision or over-site from staff I’m not sure but it greatly impacted our stay. We’re not talking about just an insect, cockroaches can carry disease.

We loved our stay at bantry bay. The location is very convenient and close to the waterfront and many other places of interest. Check in was effortless and quick and the staff was friendly and made us feel at home. The room was spacious and clean, loved the fact it had a balcony. We had private parking for our vehicle which was safe and secured. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, with a wonderful selection to choose from. I would Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Cant wait to visit again !
