For a four star hotel, thee customer service at reception is not beyond average. The food is just average with limited options. The shower head is too big for the shower. The space is too small. There is no options for TV channels. For the hotel that is celebrating 50 years there is no wifi in the rooms..

On Friday 31 May 2019 my husband, son and I checked into the Winkler Hotel to celebrate our anniversary weekend. We live in Nelspruit and have visited the Hotel numerous times to swim and enjoy their amazing Sunday lunches but this was our first time staying over and will definitely not be the last. The staff from reception, through waitering staff, housekeeping up to General Manager are all professional, friendly and service orientated. When the GM, Simon, found out we were there to celebrate our anniversary, he spoilt us by upgrading our accommodation and sent champagne to our room! The food is excellent - a la carte or buffet to choose from and the relaxing atomsphere is wonderful. Whether you want to just relax or swim, play tennis or chess, The Winkler ticks all boxes. We will definitely be back.

Whilst the property looks nice and the food is good and the staff supportive, the stay was marred by an intruder (who apparently turned out to be a security guard) in a young ladies room at 2h30 stealing her belongings. And the worst is the SAPS were not called to take statements.

Dear Klaus, Thank you for taking the time to post a review after your recent stay, whilst guiding your tour through South Africa. If you recall I personally handled this during the night and the following morning. Fortunately nothing was stolen and all the items returned. The attempted theft was conducted by an outsourced security guard who has since been removed. As I explained to you at the time and again the following week when I met with you in Cape Town, The South African Police will not open a case if nothing was stolen. Nor will they open a case for a third party, only the person who suffered a loss may do so. And whilst we apologise wholeheartedly, without prejudice, for any distress, sadly the very people assigned by the security company, to protect us found the door open and took an opportunity. I assure you that our property is secure, has access control and that this guard who had been recently appointed by the security company has been dismissed. Again, as you are aware SAPS would not take any action as no loss was suffered by any party. And the fact that had any loss occurred the GUESTS would have to open a case, not the hotel, we can only assist. but to call the SAPS out, most probably delay the GUESTS departure from White River and be futile and only add to any stress caused. Thanks again for the review and look forward to meeting you on your next tour, and hopefully ensure that any future reviews are accurately reported.

We were in a tour group there to visit the park. Hotel was comfortable but the rooms were dated. Breakfast and dinner were excellent as was the service. It was nice to take a glass of wine out to the patio in the evening, very relaxing. The hotel provided a take away lunch since we would be away all day but they got a little confused about which lunches for which tour group. The garden off the lobby was very nice. There were several tour groups at the hotel when we were there so it was quite busy.
