St Lucia is the gateway to the beautiful iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, declared South Africa`s first World Heritage Conservation Site in 1999. St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge is situated at the edge of town which means that whilst the shops, restaurants and other amenities are only a 10 minute walk away, the lodge`s delightful gardens blend seamlessly into the surrounding Gwalagwala Forest. The lodge has extensive shady gardens with a wide variety of trees. St Lucia Estuary can be viewed from the end of the garden and the start of the walking trail through the Gwalagwala Forest is next to the front gate. This proximity to nature means that the gardens are home to a wide variety of birds and are often visited by animals such as hippos, various antelope, bush babies and very occasionally leopards. A small swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of guests. Guests are welcome to relax either on sun loungers in the garden, under a poolside shaded area or in the comfortable lounge in the main house. All room rates include a delicious full breakfast which is served in a light and airy dining room offering views of the gardens and estuary. Accommodation at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: We offer six unique and private rooms. Each room sleeps two and is equipped with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a bar fridge for your comfort and convenience. All rooms have en suite facilities and a private shaded patio area. Other facilities at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: - Bar Fridge in each suite - Traditional Zulu hair braiding by the experts (go home with a new hairstyle) - All our Suites are non-smoking - Smoking on the patio is permitted - Internet Facilities - Free WiFi - Secretarial Services i.E.: Confirmation of flights, arranging tours/safaris etc

Located really well for birding with nice walks from just outside the gate as well as good viewing from the properties lawn. Nice B&B with clean, comfortable and working facilities. Caters for all your basic needs. Nice breakfasts and friendly staff.

We had an enjoyable stay here. The grounds are lovely. There is wi-fi in the rooms. Our room had a large sheltered area at the entrance, large enough for a comfortable sofa. Be aware that there are only South African outlets (Type M) in the room. The kitchen could have been more accommodating at breakfast. I did not want eggs, bacon, sausage and the like. I got one slice of tomato and a tablespoon of mushrooms. The next morning I asked for larger portions, and indeed got more - two slices of tomato and two tablespoons of mushrooms, not very generous. Thankfully there was bread to partly make up for it.

Kingfisher's Lodge lies at the end of mainstreet - just next to the beginning of couple of nice trails. Friendly staff, nice breakfast and a wonderful view from the room. Stayed for four nights in the one and only room facing the river valley - stunning!

Lovely location with in walking distance to restaurants and shops set in a beautifully maintained garden. Nicely appointed comfortable rooms, unfortunately the outside lights and white curtains in the room make for a very light room at night. Also we felt they skimmed on the details, no drinking water in the room -a big negative - if you want some you have to buy it from them or bring your own (a complementary bottle in the room would be nice) also only powdered milk was provided for tea/coffee in the rooms (a little jug of fresh milk in the room fridge would be much nicer than powdered milk ). Staff were efficient and helpful. Laundry was a hefty price.

Sweet place, great rooms, super staff. The manager was very helpful to us with booking a sunset hippo ride and organizing some paperwork for a border crossing. Excellent breakfast! The hippo visiting the garden was a bonus.
