The management wasn't available to assist me immediately, however 3 hours later were available and still could not resolve my complaint, but sided with the staff instead. During my visit there were issues with rates and rooms, the floor staff couldn't figure out how to resolve it. They called a manager from office to assist them telephonically, however when I ask to speak to the manager the staff told me their manager is not around, I guess they were arranging another colleague to defend them and not to resolve the issue.
Great place great staff. Good food. The location is amazing- near a river. The room was big enough and the bath was good. The staff done alot to help in every issue. Tge pool was also nice. We deffenetly will come back
Peaceful landscaped estate with tastefully designed accomodation. Very well maintained and at the center of the estate there is a beautiful swimming pool, loungers and shaded seating. The restaurant backs on to a river where sightings of hippo are par for the course. The local elephant sanctuary takes their elephants there to water occasionally. A very restful place to visit. Breakfast was included and adequate. We were in the restaurant a few times - good choice and value. And additionally there are other restaurants near by if you fancy a change. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. After a day the place felt like home. A special callout to Penny here. We arranged the Kruger day safari through the hotel which was excellent. The guide was excellent. Our three nights here flew and I know we will be back some day. If I am to call out one ‘could to better’ : we also joined the panorama tour organised through the resort - it was good but our guide was cold / unfriendly which was a shame.…
We had our wedding at Hippo Hollow in December 2022 and could not have asked for a better venue and group of staff to help us! They made our stay extremely special and the staff were absolutely AMAZING! They really went out of their way to make it the best day of our lives. Asanele, Arlene, Anri and the team were fantastic! Norman was brilliant with the bookings and was so accommodating as we made lots of changes before the time. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the viewings from our chalet of the ellies coming to play in the river were so special and unique. Would highly recommend Hippo Hollow as a venue for a wedding!!
By far the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel. I was electrocuted while taking a shower: the shower handles were live and gave multiple serious electric shocks. I was staying with a small group (6 rooms) and I was not the only one to experience this issue. If that wasn't bad enough, the manager was not very sympathetic and maybe thought we were making this up, I dont know. It took a lot of arguing and discussion to move our whole group to the other side of the property. We were originally staying on this single story wing of the building which had multiple rooms with electricity running through all of the pipes. I still think twice before I touch a faucet in a shower. In general the "resort" was very dated, with moldy smelling rooms, below average food and a staff that was unfriendly and very unhappy to be there. Just a very negative place to stay. If you stay here you are risking your life. Good luck to you.…
Here for 2 nights with a large group as part of a longer touring trip round SA. Hippo hollow is a really unique, and in many ways magical place to stay. The river runs right through the property and eating dinner and breakfast in front of it is wonderful. But I think the quality of accommodation is disappointing– the rooms are a little tired, although they are meant to have a rustic feel I think this strays into them not being particularly well maintained and the design and quality of the rooms in the hotel part varies enormously. Initially I was given a dark and dingy room on the ground floor in front of the swimming pool which had no privacy at all. And No working safe, no working ceiling fan and no working TV. The rooms are clean but are obviously never checked for maintenance issues between guests. The room also had a really funny smell and the towels smelt musty and damp. Eventually I was moved to an upstairs room because they could not sort out the TV issue, which was much better, and begs the question, why didn’t they just allocate me that empty room in the first place,I ate dinner one night downstairs in the restaurant - service was typically slow, as is the case across all of South Africa and my halloumi salad wasn’t very nice and did not arrive the same time as my soup which is what I asked for. The staff here are very helpful, appealing, accommodating cheerful, as is the case across or South Africa. The resort is described as a luxury country estate. I don’t think it could be described as luxury at all but it is unique and that makes it charming…
The view from the breakfast venue is perfect, we saw elephants. Breakfast does not cater for people who does not eat pork, no variety of food served during breakfast, no generator, and in our room there was no candle, we had to stay in a dark room for hours during loadshedding and it was so uncomfortable, old fashion tv, no microwave, ants all over our bed and we could not sleep peacefully, no cutlery, we were not assisted when we wanted to warm the food we bought, it was not worth the money we paid
Excellent place. Great food. Great hospitality. Food was awesome. The chalets were extraordinary. Couldn't imagine the place would be like this. I had 15 months old with me and they were very kind to arrange for a baby crib and baby bath tub. 💕
What a lovely place to stay for a few nights. Hotel was very clean and the food was good. We ate there for 2 nights, one with an included buffet and one where we chose off the menu. Plenty of choice with both. Service was a little slow but it's like that everywhere in South Africa. The icing on the cake were the hippos that came up the river in the evening. Unfortunately it rained both nights so the hippos didn't stay long but it was amazing to see
Stayed here for 3 nights as part of tour group. Great stay, rooms rustic but well equipped and clean. Great walk in shower. Bar and restaurant VERY reasonable prices, the hotel however stands out because of the staff. Very efficient and most of all very friendly and helpful. Any requests were answered and they liked a bit of banter as well ! Saw a mother and baby hippo walking along the river at night. Would not hesitate to recommend.
