Nestled amidst the lush vegetation in the South-Western corner of the majestic beauty that is the Kruger National Park. Jock Safari Lodge emerges at the pinnacle where the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers flow as one – a space for breath-taking wildlife sightings. The lodge with 6, 000 hectares of natural landscape offers guests one of the best Big 5 game viewing experiences in South Africa with its exclusive riverbed traversing rights. Traverse through this exceptional landscape on twice daily game drives as well as wilderness walks with highly experienced game rangers and witness an abundance of bird life and a staggering diversity of wildlife, including the endangered wild dog. Enthralling sightings of elephants, prides of lions as well as a sea of buffalo horns rising from the grass as they lie resting in the growing heat, awaits one. Rich in historical heritage, Jock is the first private game lodge within South Africa’s largest national park and was inspired by the well-known tale of Jock of the Bushveld by Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, a story of courage and loyalty set during South Africa’s first gold rush era. This colonial styled safari lodge offers guests a unique stay, showcasing elements of history, fauna and flora, tranquillity, conservation and fine cuisine in the 12 individual thatched suites at the Main Lodge or 3 luxurious suites at the nearby Fitzpatrick Lodge.

I can't say enough good things about our experience at Jock Safari Lodge! It was our very 1st visit to Kruger National Park, and we had considered going with the private reserve option, but one of our friends who works as a travel agent said that you really can't replicate the experience of staying inside the Kruger. They were definitely right! It was so incredible to be able to explore the Kruger before and after the gates were closed to the public with our amazing guide, Lazarus, who was able to somehow spot things that should have been impossible to see! Incredible instincts! Jock Safari Lodge is in a concession in the Kruger which means that they and their guests have access to the entire park, but they also have 6000ha of land that is unfenced that the public are not allowed to visit. We got to see lions, rhino, elephants, buffalo, and leopard all in our first 16 hours in the park (and so, so much more), all within their private concession. We also ventured out to the public areas of the park and saw even more incredible stuff. What an experience! The rooms and the quality of service is absolutely incredible. It felt soo luxurious and we really felt like we were living the safari dream! The private chalet had it's own dipping pool, tented viewing deck, and outdoor bath, and it was so lovely to sip on a glass of bubbly while watching nature at work in the riverbed in front of us. I cannot recommend this experience enough, and I would love to return one day to visit the animals and staff at Jock Safari Lodge!!

Luxury in the bush with a touch of history. Jock gets it’s name from the historical dog called “Jock of the Bushveld “ in the area where his epic story took place. This wonderful lodge nestled under the canopy of Jackal-berry trees overlooking the magnificent Biyamiti Riverine area is home to an excellent viewing of the big 5 and African painted dogs, as well as an abundance of a variety of flora and fauna. It is also a birders paradise. The beautifully appointed Main Lodge with its luxurious rooms all with River frontage creates a wonderful ambience. Their real gold is their staff who go out of their way to make one feel totally at home and relaxed. The guides are simply the best and their knowledge of the area and its natural assets are unsurpassed. Jacob who was our guide is an expert in his field and we learnt so much from him even though we have been going to the Kruger Park for many decades. The food and wine are out of the “top drawer”. Hosts, Louis and Belinda are truly wonderful and make this unique experience worth sharing. Their personal touch and attention to detail is unsurpassed. In conclusion this safari lodge is unique and a true bush experience. Only Jock vehicles traverse the area which means that there is no competition when viewing the game. This gives one the feeling that it is only your vehicle experiencing the outstanding flora and fauna. The landscapes, sunrises and sunsets are truly magnificent. Our heartfelt thanks to the Jock team for making our safari a memorable experience and we will definitely return. This lodge should be on your “bucket list”. In appreciation James and Lynette

One could not ask for a better location in the game reserve. The staff were without exception wonderful. Friendly, helpful and just a delight. The game drives were a highlight and our ranger was the best. His knowledge and stories made the experience so much more than just a drive in the bush. The food was good and ample. We can highly recommend the venue and would love to go back one day. Although they claim to be COVID-19 aware and the staff all wore masks all the time, there was someone taking your temperature each time you entered the reception area, the wearing of masks by the guests was not enforced at all. We did bring this to the attention of the general manager who promised to do something about it, but over the following two days, we did not see any improvement. This was very disappointing and something Jock should pay much more attention to. If they are not going to serve me with alcohol, because of the rules, then they MUST also enforce this rule.

We were fortunate to visit Jock Safari Lodge during April 2021. Having visited a number of luxury lodges in other reserves in South Africa, I was intrigued as to what the experience would be in the Kruger National Park, since the roads are accessible to the public. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, just before an evening game drive was scheduled to start. Fortunately, the two of us were the only guests in the entire lodge, so the team were waiting for us. We were quickly introduced to the team looking after us, including Jacob our ranger. After spending our initial few minutes meeting the team onsite, we set off for our first drive. It's on a drive that you realise the value of visiting a private lodge in the Kruger Park - it's almost as if you have the entire park to yourself. Jock enjoys private access to 6000ha of Kruger, where the public is not allowed to go. This provides a truly unique experience. Of course, wildlife sightings depend on luck, but the advantage of visiting Jock is that the rangers are in constant contact, and they are extremely familiar with the behaviours of animals in their area. Together, these almost guarantee amazing sightings. In addition, rangers have their eyes so tuned to the environment that they can spot animals, birds and insects that you'd never spot without a trained eye. This enables one to appreciate the smaller animals too. Besides the wildlife, dining is also a luxurious affair. Breakfasts and dinners are 3 courses, while a "light" lunch is available. There is a permanent supply of cookies and coffee, together with pre-drive afternoon tea. The food is of excellent quality and presentation is excellent. Jock has a wine list which is not as exhaustive as a city hotel but offers sufficient choice by the bottle or by the glass. Our suite was a haven in the bush. Each room overlooks the river with a plunge pool, outdoor bath and outdoor shower. Inside, the room is air-conditioned with a small seating area. The bathroom is generous with double vanity and double shower. All in all, visiting Jock is an experience I can only highly recommend. I look forward to my next visit there.

All staff are so capable and friendly, and flexible to accommodate special needs. They made an effort to make the experience personalized and as comfortable as possible. Game drives are an adventure, I never knew you can see so much in the south of Kruger, always thought the central area are best for game viewing. The additional / optional bed / tent next to the river is an experience not to be missed.
