This was other fourth stay in Shingwedzi and it was as always a treat. The camp consists of two large circles with the bungalows around it. This creates space and a special atmosphere. Shingwedzi does not have the river view of Letaba or the panorama of Olifants but compared to these restcamps we definitively we feel in Shingwedzi more "at...

The chalet was neat, clean and well equipped. The linen and equipment in the chalet were in good condition. The staff, from reception to restaurant, shop to chalet cleaning staff were good, helpful and efficient. Certainly one of the nicest camps in the Kruger.

The excursions from this camp always produce outstanding sightings. The roads are quieter than in the south and therefor result in less traffic congestion at sightings. The camp itself is well maintained and the chalets equally well equipped. The night sky is really something to behold.

We often stay in Shingwedzi Camp. Like always the lions did not disappoint on the road past Kanniedood dam. The shop is still well stocked. We stayed in Rentmeester Guesthouse for the first time. It is very spacious and well equipped. Located away from the rest of the camp, right on the river bank, it is the best spot by...

This was just an overnight stop for us driving up the northern half of Kruger. It was inexpensive and not expected to be anything special. The accommodations were basic but clean. The main camp area was very nice and well kept with a nice restaurant and shop. The food was average and we had dinner and breakfast the following morning...

Beneath the sparkling stars of Milky Way and Tropic of Capricorn the continent of Africa showcases the opera of Shingwedzi. Sounds of birds and gentle flight of butterflies are interrupted by wooping hyenas while the lions guard the dry riverbeds and nyala buck watch from the shadows of giant fever trees. Gazing into the mystical flames of the campfire at...

We traveled coming from the Punda Maria Gate. They say in the north of the Kruger Park you see less wildlife. Well, to be true: we can't confirm, we already saw a lot of wildlife just arriving into the Park. We started with a lot of antilopes: waterbuck, kudu, impala's, nyala. Then big herds of elephants and a big group...

Arriving on a hot day at Shingwedzi, and splashing into cool, well kept pool, is just wonderful! The whole camp is so well looked after, clean, and functional. The rooms are well appointed, very clean with excellent air-conditioning. Staff friendly and helpful.

Spent a night at Shingwedzi on our way south. We stayed in the B circle. Lovely kitchen with everything you could need. Dissapointed on the lack of privacy in the kitchen. There are wood partitions ensuring privacy at braai areas. They should extend that barrier closer to the parking to provide privacy in the kitchens. At night with lights on...

The camp is perfect for the north south or visa versa stop over. The swimming pool was a great hit with our kids. The units were smallish but well kept , we required an additional bed which was delivered faster than any 5 star hotel we have ever stayed in and it was done by pick up !!. The picnic...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Shingwedzi lies in the northern part of the Kruger National Park in the heart of Mopane country. A scenic game drive along the Shingwedzi River in a southeasterly direction towards the Kanniedood Dam is one of the most rewarding drives in the Park. Waterbuck, nyala, kudu and elephant are often seen here and the bird life is prolific. Staying overnight at Shingwedzi is an experience that will last a lifetime. It is a rustic camp that still carries the essence of the bush and is untouched by modern technology. Experience magical evenings where the accommodation is arranged in two separate circles and the glow emanating from braai (barbecue) stands cast a tranquil spell. ... more   less
