Staff at the shop was the most friendly, cheerful people we encountered in the whole time of our trip. But this is where the nice things stop. The ablution blocks were filthy, with dirty floors etc, not being graphic about the detail. It is such a disgrace for this beautiful, quaint Camp.

Orpen restcamp is one of the smallest in Kruger. It is located just behind the Orpen entrance gate at about 45 minutes drive from Hoedspruit. For those coming from far this is a very convenient location. Is is very small with a limited number of guests. Therefore, there is no restaurant and a rather small but well equipped shop. The... This very small camp has more modern chalets in a "duplex" style, also packed quite close together, which means they feel much less spacious and private than others. Acommodation and quality of chalet itself was however above average. The main disadvantage of Orpen is its situation down a single road and at a park gate. It just means that there... More

We came to the KNP for a day visit, starting out at Orpen Gate where we put in fuel and stopped for a picnic breakfast. The staff at the filling station were very helpful and friendly. The picnic stop was clean, easily accessible and relaxing. We stopped at Orpen Rest Camp on our way out. The camp was clean and... More

As camps go in Kruger National Park, Orpen is one of the least advantageous of all of them. It is located just inside one of the only average game areas in the park, though the accommodations were as good as any in Kruger. The place is very clean and the outside amenities are well kept, just visited nightly by honey... More

Basic, like all rest camps, but really good - clean, helpful and friendly staff, and a very good location within the park. It's a small camp, which we liked, and all rooms overlook the grounds and the bush/water hole beyond. There is good shop that sells all the basics and a small coffee bar - no restaurants. We used the... More

One of my favourite camps and this year was no different. The accommodation is lovely and of course the waterhole in front of the camp does not disappoint. So a great leopard drinking water. The shop is small offering limited good but they have a great coffee hut right next door. The staff was very friendly.

We have visited Kruger National Park many times over the past 30 years and although we now live in England we travel back every 3 or 4 years. This visit we booked into Orpen Camp for two nights and we're lucky enough to be allocated Cottage 15 which was right next to the perimeter fence overlooking the waterhole. Sitting in... More

If you want a small rest camp in the Kruger National Park, then Orpen rest camp is ideal. The rooms are not huge, but adequate, and the outdoor kitchen has all the utensils you need, including fridge/freezer and 2 plate stove. The stoep (verandah) is large, stretching around 2 walls. The bathroom is not huge, but again its adequate for 2... More

I stayed at Orpen for 1 night in a BD2 bungalow. This camp is in lion territory. On a sunset game drive; saw a large herd of buffalo being followed by 4 lions (3 lionesses & a male). We watched the lions for about 25 minutes. They failed on their attempted hunt and were chased away by a group of... More
