The camp is quite small, as well as the shop, which closes a bit earlier than those in bigger camps. And there is no restaurant. However, the bungalows are very nice, comfortable and look very new. There is a small pond with a light just outside the fence, so night sightings are possible almost while you cook. We were lucky...

This was our first stay at Orpen. Because it is a very small camp, we were unable to get one of the two bedroom cottages and ended up with the one bedroom hut. As we experience at all of the SAN camps we have stayed at, the rooms are clean and the cooking supplies are adequate. Our hut had the...

Staff at the shop was the most friendly, cheerful people we encountered in the whole time of our trip. But this is where the nice things stop. The ablution blocks were filthy, with dirty floors etc, not being graphic about the detail. It is such a disgrace for this beautiful, quaint Camp.

Orpen restcamp is one of the smallest in Kruger. It is located just behind the Orpen entrance gate at about 45 minutes drive from Hoedspruit. For those coming from far this is a very convenient location. Is is very small with a limited number of guests. Therefore, there is no restaurant and a rather small but well equipped shop. The...

This very small camp has more modern chalets in a "duplex" style, also packed quite close together, which means they feel much less spacious and private than others. Acommodation and quality of chalet itself was however above average. The main disadvantage of Orpen is its situation down a single road and at a park gate. It just means that there...

We came to the KNP for a day visit, starting out at Orpen Gate where we put in fuel and stopped for a picnic breakfast. The staff at the filling station were very helpful and friendly. The picnic stop was clean, easily accessible and relaxing. We stopped at Orpen Rest Camp on our way out. The camp was clean and...

As camps go in Kruger National Park, Orpen is one of the least advantageous of all of them. It is located just inside one of the only average game areas in the park, though the accommodations were as good as any in Kruger. The place is very clean and the outside amenities are well kept, just visited nightly by honey...

Basic, like all rest camps, but really good - clean, helpful and friendly staff, and a very good location within the park. It's a small camp, which we liked, and all rooms overlook the grounds and the bush/water hole beyond. There is good shop that sells all the basics and a small coffee bar - no restaurants. We used the...

One of my favourite camps and this year was no different. The accommodation is lovely and of course the waterhole in front of the camp does not disappoint. So a great leopard drinking water. The shop is small offering limited good but they have a great coffee hut right next door. The staff was very friendly.

We have visited Kruger National Park many times over the past 30 years and although we now live in England we travel back every 3 or 4 years. This visit we booked into Orpen Camp for two nights and we're lucky enough to be allocated Cottage 15 which was right next to the perimeter fence overlooking the waterhole. Sitting in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Orpen Rest Camp is situated centrally on the western border of the Kruger National Park. It is a small camp that derived its name from the surname of the donor of the land, Eileen Orpen. The scattered trees and wide-open plains covered by sweet grass attract many browsers. This in turn, attracts the eye-catching cheetah, lion and leopard. Well known for its diversity of habitat and wildlife, Orpen offers visitors an excellent opportunity to experience close encounters with elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard in a natural environment. Wild dog, cheetah, zebra and giraffe are also indigenous to this area, a paradise for the wildlife enthusiast. ... more   less
