The Vuyani Safari Lodge is located in the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve which is more than 36,000 acres in size and part of the Greater Kruger National Park area. At the foot of the Drakensberg mountain range, Vuyani Safari Lodge is one of South Africa's premier safari lodges, in the country's most famous area for African wildlife. The Vuyani Safari Lodge is one of only 2 licensed lodges on this reserve, and with only 10 suites, it offers one of the most exclusive safari experiences in South Africa. The reserve offers a unique opportunity to observe all of Africa's large game such as the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, hippo and crocodile as well as some of the very rarest species, amongst others the wild dog, the brown hyena, the ground hornbill, cheetahs and several other highly endangered animals. Almost 400 various species of birds have been counted. Some of the rarest European migratory birds visit the reserve in the European winter months.

For us this was a trip of a lifetime; celebrating our anniversary (30+) and an upcoming retirement, we researched and planned for a great experience. AND we were blown away by how much Alyssa and the staff far EXCEEDED those expectations! Vuyani staff really takes the time to understand & get to know their guests and strives to make this the best experience ever, truly understanding that the visit may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. The attention to detail was incredible and they deserve a 100 star review! We opted for a car transfer from JNB to Vuyani (pre-arranged). Although not for everyone (4 hr drive), we really enjoyed getting to see the small towns, landscapes, experiencing South Africa driving, and learning about the South Africa way of life from our driver Johan. Really gives you a different perspective. Once at Vuyani our fairytale experience began. We stayed for 5 days (a minimum in my book) and would have stayed longer if possible. We stayed in the Presidental suite. The accommodations were beautiful, clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Great amenities! We enjoyed twice a day game drives (5am & 4pm) with our guides, Uyai, and our tracker, Chris. They did an outstanding job of not only locating animals but also explaining all about the animals, their habits and what we were seeing in behavior. We were able to get some unbelievable photos of the animals in action. (Saw Big 5 + Cheetah + Hyena family + Baboons + Giraffes, etc...) Each day there were three different groups that went on Safari in a different area each drive. However, the guides were always in contact so if a rare sighting occurred (like a Leopard) our group could divert to the location if desired. The meals were out of this world! Three options every night [Red meat (local game or beef), Chicken, Vegetarian], Best breakfast I have ever had, and great sunrise & sunset snacks (on the game drives). The kitchen/wait staff was top notch. Skhumba & Chris made sure we didn't want for anything. Also loved eating with the larger group instead of individual tables! So many experiences to share about the day's activities and getting to know the other safari mates. Regarding excursions, we really like the Krueger National park. It was a different experience than the Vuyani drives, and well worth it. Although we did other excursions, I would have been just as happy to hang out & relax more at Vuyani. We love to travel and see new places. We usually are a one and done vacationers, BUT I will return to Vuyani! This was absolutely a magical experience! Thank you, Vuyani staff!

On a scale of 1-5 I give this vacation a 100. While the website looks nice and there were good reviews it was so much better than I even imagined. Too many wonderful people to call them all out but Jannie and Aggy were amazing taking us on game drives and doing their best to let us see everything we wanted - plus added a lot of comic relief along the way. I stayed in a deluxe room in the lodge and when I go back I would prefer that over one of the suites. The suites are close by and larger but you must walk with the porter at night because of animals. The food was gourmet, abundant and a good variety. Some guests made special requests and they were very accommodating. I was a little skeptical about communal dining but it was fun talking with other guests about how their day went, where they were from and other places they’ve traveled. I would recommend staying at least 5 nights but 7 is the right number for me. Regarding excursions - Kruger was well worth it. It is different from the game drives at Vuyani and I enjoyed it. If you’re there to see animals I wouldn’t recommend the hot air balloon. There was nothing wrong with it but you miss a game drive so I would do that elsewhere. We did not do the boat tour but other guests raved about it. You don’t book your excursions before you get there which is one thing I would recommend changing. Since I was there long enough they did a great job getting everything scheduled, but people with 2-3 day stays sometimes couldn’t fit the things in based on when they were offered. Be prepared to tell them which excursions you want when you arrive and don’t get overly anxious like I did if they don’t come back right away with your entire weeks schedule. Personally I would recommend taking the short flight from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit instead of driving. From pickup at the airport, the drink awaiting us upon arrival, to the rooms, the food, the game drives this is the best trip I’ve ever been on and I’m well traveled. I would absolutely recommend to my friends and family and I will return again! If I could live at this place I would!

Our booking experience was seamless due to the help and assistance of Justine. As arranged, John picked us up from Hoedspruit airport and in no time we were in a new world. All of the staff were brilliant and strived to make our stay so special. Extra thanks to Gerry & Stephen for some amazing drives, and bringing new meaning to off-road!!! Also to Chris, John, Peace, Wise and all the dining room staff. Thanks to Decker for preparing our fantastic food and leading the singing when delivering a birthday cake. Honeymoon rooms are lovely and spacious with the added bonus of visits from the local wildlife grazing outside. Due to the skill of Gerry & Stephen every drive was special, being able to see so many animals so close. Gerry can even make himself understood by elephants in must, calming them down! A fantastic place, with lovely people, both staff and guests, and fab wildlife. Many thanks once again. Back in a heartbeat…….

My wife and I just returned from a 7 night stay at Vuyani Safari Lodge Private Game Reserve (it was supposed to be 5 nights, but we extended because we just didn't want to leave}. It was one of the most incredible vacations we have ever had in all our travel abroad and we highly recommend it for a safaris destination. We traveled to Vuyani via Airlink from JNB and were met by a Vuyani staff member for a 25 minute courtesy transfer to the reserve. After an initial meet and greet at the lodge, we moved into our beautiful Honeymoon Suite #3 and afterward returned to the lodge for lunch. We completed 14 safaris adventures with our guide, Uyai, and our tracker, Chris, both of whom did an outstanding job of locating animals and telling us so much about their habits, life span, gestation periods, offspring, and many more tidbits of interesting information. The two of them never hesitated to locate and track whatever our group was interested in seeing, but often we were treated to surprises each and everyday. Uyai could maneuver that Toyota Landcruiser into the most difficult terrain situations in order to ensure we got a close up view of whatever they had found for us. Quite the skill set for both of them. Each day began with a wakeup call at 0530 by "Wish" and 15 minutes later he returns to pick up all guests and escort to the Lodge for a quick coffee and biscuit. Everyone loads into their designated vehicle with their assigned guide and tracker by 0600 and off you go. This time of the year, it was quite chilly in the predawn, so I would recommend wearing a warm, windproof, high neck jacket, stocking cap, and warm long pants. Plan to layer as once the sun rises, it will warm pretty fast and the jacket can come off. There's a break at 0800 for coffee and the ride is complete around 0900. A beautiful breakfast is served upon return at the main dining building and you can take advantage of the usual items of fruit, yogurt, cheeses, freshly made muffins or go all in with any egg selection, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato and beans. Killer good coffee too. There's down time after breakfast until 1:30 when lunch is served. You can either take a nap to catch up on jet lag, hang out by the pool or go on one of the excursions. Since we did not want to miss out on any safaris rides, we only did the Blyde Canyon Boat Trip, which was excellent and left at 10:00 and returned at 1:30. We would highly recommend this scenic boat cruise - it was very informative and relaxing. Lunch is light, usually with 2 salads, some sort of meat dish and dessert and presented at the main lodge. All the food is very fresh and delicious. The dinner menu is dropped off at the lunch tables and one of the servers comes to take your order for the evening meal and your preferred drink for "sundowner". By the time lunch is finished, it's about time to organize for the afternoon safaris leaving at 4. During our stay, it was pretty warm leaving in the afternoon, but by 6pm, it was jacket weather again. Sometime around 6, Uyai would stop in an open area to allow us to have a bathroom break and a "sundowner drink". Chris would set up and provide some great beverages and snacks. It was completely dark on the ride back and a searchlight was used to spot local wildlife. Dinner is served in the Dining building at 7:30pm. There was typically 18 guests and 2 servers with either 2 or 3 tables setup. Being a rather small group setting, you have the opportunity to meet everyone. The guests were predominately Brits and Americans, but there were also Brazilians and Italians. I cannot speak highly enough of the mix - everyone got along and had a great time together. We even had a wedding engagement during our stay, which was cause for celebration. The head chef, Duncan, and his team put on a 3 course dinner every night, that in my opinion was 5 stars. Just incredible meals and to die for desserts. The "house" Pinotage and Cab are great and my wife says the same about the white wines. I really wanted some game meat and we were treated to both Wildebeest and Kudo - do try it if you have the chance. There was always 3 choices for the main course including a vegetarian dish, so there's options for everyone. Most evenings are a wrap by 9:30 as the morning starts early. Outside of a self drive safaris in Pilanesberg National Park, this is our first experience with an all inclusive safaris resort. This is a well run organization that caters to its guests in an exemplary manner. We loved it and highly recommend a visit to anyone wanting a superior experience. I personally would recommend a minimum stay of 5 nights, which was typical for most guests. We had no regrets extending to 7 nights. Lastly, I haven't mentioned the animals you will encounter. We saw lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, cape buffalo, waterbuck, kudu, impalas, wildebeest, nayala, monkeys, baboons, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, hyenas, porcupines and a vast array of birds. I might add it's a beautiful setting with the mountains in the background. This is a beautiful property and a staff that takes care of its guests. It wasn't just us, everyone there loved it.

We stayed at Vuyani for 7 nights in May 2023. This was our first Safari. We flew into Johannesburg and opted to take the road transfer all the way as opposed to flying into Hoedspruit. Vuyani organised the transfer for us, it is a long drive, totals around 5.5 hours but Johan our driver made it comfortable and he would educate us on certain places as we travelled through. We had a refreshment break on the way and the coffee and snacks were very good. We travelled in a VW Golf and it was clean throughout. We made it to Vuyani just in time for lunch and then we went on the game drive. The game drives started at 6am and 4pm and both last for 3 hours each. Our driver for the game drives was Jerry and our tracker was Stephen. We were so lucky to have them for our entire stay, the passion they both showed to try and find the animals was unwavering and their commitment to try and find the animals was second to none. You can tell they genuinely love the animals and they were amazing at educating us, the two of them made our trip! We had the pleasure of ‘Wish’ waking us up each morning and walking us to and from dinner to make sure we were safe. Wish was always happy, polite and made the early morning wake up calls a little less difficult. He has an amazing voice. The food was very good, even after we had read the reviews on Trip Adviser, we were still hesitant wondering just how good the food was, but we did not have a bad meal week. At breakfast there were plenty of ‘continental’ options such as cereals, fruit, yoghurt and pastries as well as hot options all made fresh for you. Lunch was always good. We were lucky enough to have 2 BBQs during our stay, the dinners are again made fresh for you and are accommodating at adapting flavours and tastes for you, all three courses were great and it’s the best food I have ever experienced in an all inclusive holiday. The waiting staff always made sure we had a drink and again were polite and friendly. We went on the boat trip whilst there, the scenery is amazing and with the added bonus that you still get to do both game drives, I’d recommend it for a change of scenery. We also done the picnic which was nice. With this sort of holiday, your experience is also enhanced by other guests. At breakfast, lunch and dinner you share tables, we were lucky enough that during our stay, the other guests were awesome and enhanced our experience. We stayed in a presidential suite, this is a large suite with plenty of room and the jacuzzi was nice but too warm to use during the day, but lovely of an evening. During the day, we used the swimming pool to cool down. The biggest compliment that Vuyani can have is that whilst we were there, numerous couples extended their stay, this just shows how enjoyable Vuyani is. We would recommend it to anyone, 7 nights in our opinion was perfect and we got to see all of the ‘BIG 5’. The only disappointment we experienced was we had some money go missing from our room. When we arrived, our safe was not working, however, we felt safe within the lodge and all the staff we had met seemed genuine, therefore we did not raise this with the management and we left cash in a wallet which was then placed in the wardrobe. As you do not need to use cash as it is all inclusive, on our fourth day when we went to take some cash out in order to give a tip, we realised that 800 Rand was missing. This did disappoint us as we had only taken cash to use as tips anyway, so whoever had taken it didn’t need to as they were going to get it given to them at the end of our stay anyway. We raised this with the hotel management who seemed to take this seriously. We made it clear to them that we did not want the money back or any form of discount as we had enjoyed our stay thoroughly and were happy to pay. The management offered to contact the Police for us, but for 800 ZAR (around £35-£40) it’s not worth wasting anyone’s time. The minimum wage in South Africa is so little at around £1 per hour that I would hope that whoever was responsible for taking the money, genuinely needed it for essential items, just a shame that it happened the way it did because they would have got it anyway. We just learnt a lesson that next time we will make sure the safe is working and raise this if it isn’t.

What a wonderful safari with the family! Vuyani is on a private game reserve which is about 40,000 acres. This was our first safari, we spent 5 days there and had a wonderful time. We flew in to Hoedspruit from Cape Town on Cem Air, it was an uneventful 2.5 hour journey. Vuyani arranged a transfer in a private van, the transfer is part of the all-inclusive. We were greeted by Alyssa who was efficient, friendly and helpful. I would say this is the attitude of every single staff member. Alyssa and Divine were the hosts and were available throughout to make our stay a memorable one. We did two safaris a day, one in the early morning and one in the late afternoon. We saw the Big 5 atleast twice during our stay and we were fortunate to see a baby leopard, baby elephant, baby giraffe and baby hyena during our safaris. There are three safari vehicles on the property and you are assigned on one vehicle for the duration of your stay. We were assigned to a vehicle with Jerry (guide/driver) and Steven (tracker). Both were very knowledgeable, experienced and very friendly. The guide and tracker will make a big difference in the quality of your safari. I don’t know about the other vehicles but I would give Jerry and Steven top marks! Vuyani is not a big lodge, capacity is 20 or so guests. You will spend a lot of time with the other guests in your vehicle. Meal times are also a good opportunity to socialise with the other guests. A majority of guests during our stay were from the UK with some from Germany, Australia and the US. They have a small kitchen staff and the food is generally very tasty and well presented. There is a bbq (Braai) on Wednesdays and Saturdays which is a real highlight. Overall, I would rate Vuyani very highly for safari (which is the most important factor). Staff is super friendly, accommodations are very nice and comfortable and we enjoyed the food. Highly recommended!

I have been fortunate enough to have several stays at Vuyani River Lodge on the same reserve, but this time also wanted to try Safari Lodge. I stayed in one of the honeymoon suites which was beautiful and luxurious. (Even the lodge cat decided it was a great place to sleep one night much to my delight). The food and drinks are never ending and of excellent quality. It’s too easy for the lbs to pile on….but that is what holidays are about. For me the absolute stars of the show here (apart from the animals of course) are Jannie and Aggy, our guide and tracker, who went the extra mile on every drive to give us the best chance of getting the most incredible sightings. They both have such a huge amount of knowledge to share and do so in an entertaining and memorable way. Even if the lodge wasn’t top notch (which it definitely is) I would be back just to see them again! Already planning my next trip……

We stayed for 5 nights in one of the honeymoon suites (HM2) with a jacuzzi. We arrived at Hoedspruit Airport where we were greeted immediately by Mitambo (spelling?) who helped us with our bags and gave us lots of information on the local area on our drive to the Vuyani Safari Lodge. We even got to see some giraffe on the drive from the airport to the lodge! Upon arrival we were greeted by Vlack who made checking in really easy and provided us with a lot of information on the different excursions on offer. We booked the full day Kruger and private plane excursions - both of which were very good (special thanks to Derick and Lovoye who took us on the Kruger drive and whipped up some delicious food along the way!). We would recommend doing the Kruger trip if you’re staying more than 3 days (it’s really interesting to see the differences between the private game reserve and the national park but not necessary if you’re short on time). We would also warn people who get travel sick to possibly avoid the plane excursion though the views are definitely worth it. Our room was extremely comfortable and spacious. It was also cleaned every day (including evening turndowns) and we particularly enjoyed the outdoor showers which were nice and hot! We had the most amazing game drives with Oyai and Chris (our guide and tracker) who went above and beyond! Vuyani run them twice a day (morning ones start at 6am and afternoon ones start at 4pm - although these times change depending on the season) and we saw 4 of the big 5 (unfortunately we missed the Leopard sighting as we were in Kruger!). We were particularly impressed that they asked us what we wanted to see each drive and that they even went into the bush on foot to ensure that we could see the 3 week old baby elephant. Special shout out to Rams who cooked a different three course meal each night, which included lots of South African delicacies and local ingredients (e.g Wildebeast and Kudu to name a couple!). The vegetarian dishes also did not disappoint! There was also a barbecue twice a week with a changing menu of grilled meats, fish and an assortment of lovely sides! The waiters at meal times were all fantastic and we particularly appreciated Russell ensuring that everyone’s drinks were topped up. Most of all what makes Vuyani special is the friends you make over dinner. The communal set up is perfect for solo travellers, couples, families and everyone in between and for all ages. All of the staff ensured that we were having the best time and so the atmosphere at the lodge was fantastic! We’d love to return again in the future. Ian and Sol

It was our dream to go on a safari to see all the animals, but we had no idea how incredible the whole experience at the Vuyani Lodge Marula Villa was going to be. First of all, they made us feel at home with the attention and affection of all the staff. The food was beyond any expectation. The villa was spacious, modern and very cosy. And of course seeing the animals so close thanks to the trackers was a dream come true. They have a great variety of species that you can see enjoying nature in freedom.
