A spacious country style guesthouse set in a beautiful rambling garden overlooking Wilderness National Park which is a Ramsar site. Comfortable antique furniture, fresh flowers and romantic log fires in winter create a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Delicious breakfasts (including freshly baked muffins or scones and home made jams)served on the wide, covered veranda. Cosy cottage style en-suite bedrooms have king-size/twin beds, heater, fan, tea/coffee tray and private entrance. Sparkling pool. Prolific bird life, hiking and canoeing along rivers and lakes. Beautiful beaches nearby. Ideal as a base from which to explore our magnificent area.
On our travel along the Garden Route this place is the one we would have liked to stay longer - but it was not possible for just 2 easy reasons - our next place was booked and more important - we were one of the last guests in this lovely place. Sue and Phil have sold their home and retire. The new owner will not operate a B&B but just live there. For 2 days we were the only guests, and Sue provided a breakfast as if we were 6 people .... Amazing.

Kingfisher is the quintessential home from home. Guests are made to feel like cherished family members, such is the warmth of the welcome here. The rooms are all comfortable & a place to relax. Sue's breakfasts are world-famous, as is the fact that she can, literally, charm the birds from the trees! Birdwatchers find themselves in paradise. All tastes are catered for as Sue & Phil have the broadest knowledge of the area & can suggest the best possible itinerary.

Phil and Sue's Kingfisher Country House (KCH) is probably the best accomodation along the Garden Route. It's close to a few of the best birding sites in Wilderness National Park (Half Collared Kingfisher Trail (hotspot for Narina Trogon), the Rondevlei Bird Hide and the Malachite Bird Hide) and much sought after birds such as Knysna Turaco, Swee Waxbill and Forest Canary are easy to see from KCH's veranda. But even if you are not a birdwatcher (like my wife), you will enjoy the close up views of the birds, the beautiful garden, the English cottage style rooms and the unsurpassed breakfast. It's simply a marvellous place to stay. You will not be disappointed.

We spent (only) one night at this magnificent place! We liked everything about the place - the garden which was full of birds, the beautiful location, the room and breakfast. But mostly, we enjoyed the warm, friendly and hospitable hosts, who gave us a lot of information about birds and suggestions for birding in the area. We would love to come again!

We spent four nights at Kingfisher Country House and from day one it felt like home. Our room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable – we slept like logs. The delicious breakfasts kept us going for the whole day. Sue and Phil were wonderful and caring hosts. Sue shared her birding expertise (and there were plenty of birds to see at the feeders, including the legendary turaco) and she provided us with all the information we needed to explore the Wilderness-Garden Route area. Wilderness National Parks’s Half-Collared Kingfisher Trail is only a short walk from the house. A thank-you to the family pets Misty and Tessa for their company and affection. Given the opportunity, we would definitely stay at Kingfisher County House again.

Everything about this place was charming - the room, the people, the dog, the birds, the garden. Very quiet, out of the village but not difficult to find. Highly recommended if you like nature and would like to see the local bird life close up.

This is the second time we visit Kingfisher. Sue is THE BEST host there could be. The rooms are always comfortable and clean. The beds are extremely comfortable and the breakfasts in between special treats and Sue's help and knowledge with the birds is tremendous. Will always go back.

Sue and Phil are fantastic hosts. They warmly welcome guests into their home, and offer great tips on dining and activities in the immediate area (and, if of interest, further afield). The accommodation is very comfortable and well-equipped. Delicious and varied homemade breakfasts are served on the veranda overlooking the lush garden. A wide range of birds visit the nearby bird tables and feeders. The only slight drawback for us was that the property is c2.5km from Wilderness village centre where restaurants are located, so it was not possible to walk out for dinner. Sue, and some of the restaurants, was however very helpful in arranging a shuttle taxi for us, so this wasn't a problem.

Our hosts including their lovable dog made us very welcome. The location was in a quiet very rural wooded setting.away from the noise of the main road. We had a very large double aspect room with a view over the garden. Breakfast was followed by freshly backed muffins which we took away for our afternoon treat. It was like leaving family when we left. This is what makes B&B so very special.
