Best hotel stay I have ever experienced. Great staff, food, value for money, fantastic family room. Plenty of amenities at the hotel (all included, putt-putt, massive swimming pool, trampoline, kids climbing equipment).

Don't let the words old-fashioned put you off - it's a compliment. The room, and indeed the hotel was well appointed and maintained. We had a re-furbished King room and it was very nice indeed. By old-fashioned I mean the lovely heritage feel, and the warm and friendly staff, who were wonderful. Food was great too.Rarely have I felt such...

Our room was good and looked out on the garden. Breakfasts were satisfactory but we were disappointed with the bar menu in the evening. The staff were very pleasant. Generally, the hotel was fairly basic but Wilderness is a great place to visit.

I knew the lovely hotel from over 20 years ago when it was still Karos and what a great place it was. It has a brilliant location . Unfortunately the present management believes thatacoat of paint will do the trip. Many guests were house in old smelly rooms . airconditioners were not working , cold and hot water problems ...dirty...

I visited the hotel with a friend that was wheel chair bound. As we drove up we found the disabled parking far away from hotel front entrance. When we approuched the hotel we were told the wheel chair entrance was to the side of the hotel. We had to push up hill !!!! for aproxamtly 120meter to reach a side...

This is a large and somewhat rambling 'grande dame' of a hotel, but on balance it is 'fit for purpose'. The room (101) was a little small for the category (deluxe) booked, although it had a nice balcony overlooking the green and the lagoon. Breakfast was good and eggs (any style) were freshly cooked to order. We took dinner one...

My wife and stayed for a Saturday and Sunday evening. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was neat and clean and the bed comfy. It was a rainy weekend so we didn't get to use the pool but the grounds and pool seemed neat and well kept.

Unless you are after a budget hotel I would not consider staying at the Wilderness Hotel. We arrived full of expectation but we were given a room that smelt damp, had stains on the carpets, missing a bedside lamp, bathroom sink was cracked and the bath needing a major overhaul. They offered us another room which was just as bad...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to the Garden Route's oldest and best-loved Hotels! With a grand tradition as honeymoon spot, family hotel and a tourist and business destination, it's steeped in tradition and it's got a warm, old-style charm. But it's also a modern hotel with all the facilities you need - The 150-bedroom property boasts a beauty spa, two swimming pools, a bowling green, two tennis courts, a squash court, putt-putt and six banqueting halls and conference rooms. We are situated almost in the centre of the Garden Route - 45 minutes' drive to both Mossel Bay and Knysna, less than an hour to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo. Not to mention 300 meters from golden beaches, surrounded by indigenous forests and striking lagoons. It's a Mecca for sport and adventures and Wilderness is part of the unfenced Garden Route National Park - with some of the world's most popular walks and trails. All of this makes The Wilderness Hotel perfect for niche markets like birders, mountain bikers, golfers and for tour companies too, of course. ... more   less
