Hi. The holiday and hotel was very nice except for 1 thing. There is no "FIRST AID OR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL" on the premises which is very sad cz there was an incident and no help was available. Thank u

We recently stayed at Margate Sands and it was our worst holiday ever! We booked two apartments (one was the superior apartment and the other was the standard apartment). When we booked our stay, we requested that the rooms be close to each other. On our arrival, we were informed that we could get rooms next to each other if we basically give up our superior apartment and stay in 2 standard apartments. We refused and stayed 6 levels apart from each apartment. The superior apartment's aircon was not working. We informed the hotel's reception and a technician attended to same 3 hours later and he informed us that he would come and sort out the aircon the next day. To sum of this issue, we stayed at a 4 star hotel for our entire stay without an aircon. The standard apartment had water leaking from the pipes in the bathroom and mud on the bedroom floors. It looked like the room was not cleaned at all. We were then moved into a new standard apartment When we booked the apartments, we informed the reception that we required cleaning services at 10 am the next morning. When we checked in, we again reminded the reception. The next morning on our way to breakfast at the WIMPY, we again informed the reception that our apartments needs to be cleaned. We returned from breakfast around 12pm and our rooms were not cleaned. We waited till 1pm and called the reception to clean our apartment. We were informed that the cleaning services are busing at apartment 1. The cleaning services did not come and around 3pm, we no longer could handle the poor service that we were receiving and went to speak to the reception and informed them that we were not happy with the service we were receiving. The reception did not seem interested in our "complaints" and we requested to speak to the manager. The manager's secretary made us wait almost 20 minutes before speaking to him. Eventually we complained to the Manager and thereafter our rooms were cleaned. Very poor services offered at this Hotel. The surroundings are terrible. No close shops and seems to be very dodgy. I will never stay at this Hotel again.

Margate sands definitely location is like hillbrow. You can’t even go buy food behind from the halaal places. Very dodgy… That whole area by Margate sands is so run down, even the beach there is not the same and it now has a shallow river to cross to get to the beach. Terrible I'm at margate sands at the moment 1st and last time Unit is comfortable and that's about all the pros there are Location is bad, being the main beach, it's literally like being in hillbrow. U cant use this beach, have to drive out. Standards have dropped badly, room was poorly cleaned, floors and table tops greasy. This holiday, margate sands has lost every indian client that walked in here... trust me... none will return. Games room closed due to covid, but outside gym is safe and ZERO sanitation. 🤷🏻‍♀️ No staff or anyone around the pool or kids area Heard complaints yesterday about that too New years weekend We were in lockdown in the resort And non residents were given access to the pool, so u can only imagine No one could use the pools or even leave their unit for the entire weekend unless u drove out and the roads were crazy this side In future, it may be the only 8slp in southcoast, but personally wouldn't recommend it for Christmas or new years weeks. Margate Sands was a Rollercoaster ride. We arrived at 4:30pm and our room was not ready. Check in is at 3pm. Eventually at 6pm we got the keys to our room. The cleaner did a slap dash job of cleaning our unit. We had no towels. Called reception n housekeeping multiple times to bring them, only to be told at 8pm that housekeeping is closed for the day. We were told different stories by different people regarding daily housekeeping. Some said the unit won't be cleaned daily, some said it will. After many calls n requests we were frustrated and called management in to complain. The furniture needs a thorough cleaning and housekeeping needs a serious and urgent overhaul. It's such a pity the resort was such a let down as margate is a beautiful and quaint little seaside town with great beaches. Similar experience Yusuf We were told to wait for the keys given a slap dash unit after There was dirty towels etc in the machine and our laundry came around 7pm because we went multiple times to reception Pool area is filthy n receptionist is super rude Really so dissapointed

An extremely disappointing experience that was not managed appropriately by first resorts management or head office. Sewerage leaked from the ceiling of the bathroom - I am still in this unhygienic space 24 hours later. No senior management has come up!

This review is about a timeshare stay for one week at the resort. The resort consists of 63 units that are almost identical. The units are ideally designed for family holidays at the coast. The units have large covered balconies that allow you to have a holiday that is almost independant of the weather which is important at the KZN coast as the weather changes quickly and it rains for a short time almost every day. The balcony is so big that is is equal in size to the main bedroom and lounge combined. The view from each balcony is stunning as the resort is across the road from the beach and sea at the main access point to the Margate beach. There is also a large private enetertainment area in front of the resort which has a large swimming pool, braai and lounging areas and even outdoor gym facilities, so you can stay off the beach if that is your thing. The units themselves are first class with three bedrooms, one bathroom ensuite and another with full size shower for the other bedrooms. There is a full kitchen even with dishwasher and clothes washer, a seperate bar and bar fridge - and lots of crockery and cutlery to cater for up to eight visitors. There is a lot of space in the units. The resort is walled away from the passing public and has security to keep residents safe. Ample parking is available in a covered garage that is part of the resort. The staff are very friendly and helpful and many have been associated with the resort for many years, welcoming one back when one returns for a followup visit. One unique feature of the setting is that there are palm trees in front of the resort adjacent to the public beach, and late in the afternoon at certain times of year, hundreds of birds fly into these specific trees to nest at night. Amazing to see swarms of birds arrive and dissappear into the palm trees as the sun is setting. The resort has a very responsive reception staff and a simple internal call gets any problem solved almost immediately. One new feature of Margate as a holiday destination for self catering timeshare holiday tourists is that your online ordering apps for grocery deliveries and food deliveries that you use in Johannesburg now also work in Margate and everything can be delivered to your door.

What an unpleasant holiday INDEED! Upon arrival our key did not have a tag, we did not have any towels (which we only realized once I was already in the bath) and no dstv remote to operate the TV. You can see the reception lady does not take any pride in her job, and it is very obvious that this job is only a job for her to have an income and nothing more. The cleaning staff however were all very friendly. AND MOST IMPORTANT, NO Covid regulations were followed.... to my shock 8 guests wanted to squash into the lift with me, none wearing any masks, and upon asking where their masks were they were very disgusted with me, and I felt forced to leave the lift, even though I was in the lift first. And this despite signs everywhere stating that it is a criminal offense not wearing a mask on the premises of Margate Sands. Nowhere where most guests moved through the resort, have anyone complied with sanitizing their hands upon entering the building or wearing masks.... This comes to an utter shock to me. Never will us visit Margate Sands ever again.

Infested with cockroaches. The staff looked at me like I am the crazy one when I raised this complaint. Joy- the deputy manager- should be let go of. She clearly has not taken any course on how to deal with customers. No interest by staff to enforce their rules- particularly noise. We were told that some guests consume alcohol and they would speak loudly. I was told that most of them would check out on Sunday and that it would be quiet thereafter. So if you are looking for a quiet time where you won't be sighting cockroaches, do not consider Margate Sands. #FirstGroup

On arrival we received a warm welcome from the security personnel and the receptionist. They gave us a an upper room with nice sea view. Leonard the manager was extremely wonderful to us, on the following day he personally met us and gave us one of the newly renovated rooms on the ground floor. He was lovely and very kind, understanding customer needs, he offered us excellent service. He made our stay enjoyable and memorable. We give him thumbs up!! If you would like to have an excellent and lovely holiday in the South Coast, we recommend Margate Sands, it is a best place for family holiday. Josh, from Ireland

We checked in on Friday the 30th of April 2021 at 5:00pm and we made a decision to check out on the same day by 5:30pm! Guests were not adhering to Covid protocols - not wearing masks, some were also consuming alcohol in the corridors. There was no enforcement by accommodation management, we laid a complaint and nothing was done. We found that the interior of the unit was also dated and we could not compare this experience with our previous holidays there (about 2 years back...very disappointed this time around). My father had chemotherapy and we had an infant with us, it was simply to risky to stay, NOT with Covid on our doorsteps, and it is no longer a vacation spot IF you are seeking a relaxing, peaceful staycation. I would NOT be visiting Margate Sands again, and I am contacting FUN HOLIDAYS for a full refund. The check in alone made me feel unsafe.

Recently visited Margate Sands for the first time. Initially was given a ground unit which when entering had a urine stench. I asked reception to move me to a higher floor Super Room which was done without any hassles. The stay was pleasant, convenient and relaxing. The newly renovated rooms are excellent, neat, tidy, spacious for a family of 6. The only issue was the wifi connectivity, which was around 100kbps majority of the time. I believe free wifi should only be advertised if one is able to get minimum of 1mbps speeds. However we were on holiday and didn't really worry about this. I will definitely be visiting this venue again in the near future.
