The nine luxury bush suites at Thanda Safari Lodge have private infinity pools, viewing decks, private salas, lounges, fireplaces and full bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. The individual bomas at each suite offer guests dining privacy. The public facilities at Thanda Safari Lodge include a lounge, library, dining room, boma, dining deck, wine cellar, cigar bar, private business area and viewing decks. Villa iZulu can accommodate 10 people, offering accommodation as a unit of five separate suites. Each suite is individually decorated and very private, with its own viewing deck. Public facilities at Villa iZulu include a boma, library, wine cellar, business area, heated pool and a magnificent deck overlooking a waterhole. Thanda Tented Camp is built in colonial safari style, offering an authentic bush experience in 15 tents. The tents have viewing decks and en-suite canvass bathrooms. Public facilities at Thanda Tented Camp include a dining tent, a boma area, and a sala consisting of an 'open-air' lounge and a 10x5m rim-flow pool. The Jabula Tent, located within Thanda Tented Camp, offers a sophisticated mix of romance, privacy and refined comfort in the heart of the African bush. It features a king-sized bed in a spacious bedroom, and a comfortable separate lounge area for relaxation. A highlight of Jabula Tent is the outdoor shower and splash pool which has spectacular panoramic views of the 14000-hectare reserve. Thanda's award-winning spa offers signature treatments that are based on a combination of western techniques and ancient Zulu holistic practices - learnt from traditional Zulu women, to massage, soothe and heal. Safaris in open game viewing vehicles are conducted exclusively for Thanda guests on the low-risk malaria reserve.

Thanda Lodge has been on our to do list for a number of years we never really got around to it until this year. The lodge is a comfortable 3 hour drive from Durban. Thanda safari lodge itself is breathtaking, the rooms are truly 5 star, to be honest in my opinion exceed several other 5 star private game reserves that my wife and I have visited. They are exceptionally luxurious, and achieve that ultimate objective of being as one with the bush and exceedingly private. From your own heated plunge pool, to a summer bed in the middle of the bush they have thought of everything. The lodge itself is simply superb, wherein you are cared for by your own butler, the cuisine is different level, everyone smiles and are only too happy to help. However the real attraction was the game viewing and especially the birding, our guides Kyle and Madide where on point, birding knowledge and tracking skills enabled us to have exception elephant and lion sightings, with 8 new birds added to my list. If you enjoy this type of holiday a must do on the list.

WOW - where do we begin? Having been to many of the leading hotels of the world before, Thanda left us speechless and we truly had some of our best memories ever there! The incredible service - we were treated like royalty! The people at Thanda takes it to a whole nother level!! The food - breakfast, lunch & dinner – was so good! The Safari - you are almost guaranteed to see the big five! What we loved the most was their knowledge and respect for the animals. We always felt safe. The Accommodation - We stayed in one of the luxury villas at the safari lodge - an architectural masterpiece! My wife is an architect – she truly values incredible spaces and design. The Lodge is super luxurious, your own piece of paradise in the African bush - best part of it – it is unfenced – such an amazing experience - we LOVED IT! You have your own private splash pool and “sala” (lookout hut) overlooking the wildlife, as well as our favourite - a romantic outdoor shower to see the stars at night. Each lodge has a private boma, we had the most romantic dinner in our boma. There are stunning tented camps and a luxury villa also as other options. We had our two-year-old boy with us, and It was very safe and kid friendly. Thanda was not only a holiday or place we visited – it become part of us, we will treasure these special memories forever. As the worlds leading travel, experiences, sport, food and romance journal – you won’t find a place in the world that can match this incredible experience.

As expressed in previous reviews, Thanda Lodge is top-notch place to stay in a well managed and excellent private reserve. We enjoyed a great three night stay and saw wonderful wildlife with a first class guide. Ashleigh, the lodge manager, was helpful and considerate at all times. We’d go back - anytime.

We were lucky to visit with friends who have been before (many times and keep going back), every single thing about this place is perfection, the luxury of the lodge, the expertise and enthusiasm of the Guides and Trackers, the warmth and genuine kindness of the staff, the quality and quantity of amazing food (diet started already !) Amazing experiences with animals on all of our drives, cocktails at sunset looking out over unspoiled Africa, visits from Elephants coming to drink from a pool at the lodge, laughter, singing, more eating and drinking with some sunbathing and a complimentary wildlife photography lesson thrown in, what an unbelievable experience and we really can't wait to go again, I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

This year, our sixth visit, Thanda surpassed itself yet again and provided us with the Big Five and some very rare sightings and experiences we will never forget. A very big thank you to Lara Soldat and her amazing team, especially Ashleigh and Lucky, for making our stay so memorable. Our guide Martin and tracker Ndlandla made the drives an exceptional experience with their knowledge and enthusiasm. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone’s warmth and welcoming manner made the stay an absolute pleasure. The villa, as always our home from home, was a welcome luxurious refuge from the heat of the day with every need catered for. A delightful bush dinner with locals performing traditional songs and dancers was a real highlight for us and our guests. We had an exceptionally outstanding experience this year and can’t wait to come back. The best award winning reserve in Africa and deservedly so.
