Has a perfect mixture between luxury lodge and African home. Staff are very friendly and professional. The pub deck area has an exquisite view of the African sunset. Top marks! The Hluhluwe game reserve is only 30 min drive. Lake St Lucia is only 10 min drive and the grand St Lucia estuary is a bit of a drive away... More

Umkhumbi Lodge is the getaway from the fast paced world we live in. It is run by a small team of fabulous people. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms, food and privacy are all first class. You never know what wildlife will appear outside your room, nothing dangerous but still interesting. The grounds are safe to walk around when... More

Why stay in a regular hotel when you can stay at Umkhumbi? They have some game (including the red duiker the lodge is named after) right on sight as well as a variety of butterfly and birds. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable (they even have interconnecting rooms for families) each with their own private patio area to watch... More

Excellent. Absolutely excellent. Stunning! Awesome... Words can't describe this place. The wildlife, the food, the views, the weather... All epic! I will be going back very soon :) We stayed here for one week... Not long enough. The bush is amazing and the whole atmosphere of the place just leaves you wanting to explore and relax in the bar after... More

We stayed at this lodged as part of a birding trip. It was extremely hot when we arrived and were glad of the air conditioning in the room. The swimming pool, whilst small, was also greatly appreciated. It is a bit of a mission getting large bags to the room along the little sand track to the rooms. The rooms... More

Umkhumbi Lodge is superb, Comfortable spacious rooms, plenty of delicious food prepared and served by very friendly staff on a balcony overlooking amazing views of the bush, where a cold beer was also served after a full day exploring. Our hosts Anton and Emma, and our guide Gareth (aka Ranger Dave) were so welcoming and arranged the perfect itinerary. From... More

Welcoming, friendly staff; the atmosphere seemed like a quiet, relaxing, forest getaway. Their meals prepared, especially dinners, were always different & delicious!! The location of Umkhumbi was central in North KZN, allowing for us to explore a different area every day, visiting St Lucia, Hluhluwe, Sodwana Bay, Jozini dam & Pongola during our 4-day stay!

Our family of 12 (3 families with 2 kids each) had the time of our lives at Umkhumbi. Not fancy, but warm, friendly, comfortable accommodations. Helpful, caring, cool staff. And the food....We are a difficult bunch to feed- some are gluten free, we have picky kids, always a tough group to please-and they nailed it! Went way out of their... More

Our family of 12 stayed with here for 7 nights. Anton and Emma built us a ridiculously fun itinerary that included the safari & wetland parks as well as a 2 night stay at their other property near Kosi Bay. The staff, service & food were top notch. The mid tier accommodations where exactly what we wanted; clean, spacious and... More
