We actually stayed over a three week period and travelled in the middle. Dale was a fantastic host and we loved our vila luxury suite which we occupied at the beginning and end of our stay. The staff were great and although I had one slight booking disaster at the Spa the resulting apology and treatment more than made up for it. The food and wine was excellent and we had a couple of fabulous dinners at Grei. I really can't wait to return....

We arrived there for a weekend away only for them not to have any of the bookings we made on their system even though we had proof and confirmation of everything booked. They could not even help us, as people staying at this overpriced excuse for a hotel at their own restaurant. We had to go to Sandton mall for dinner. Our massages was never booked either so basically they wanted us to sit in a hotel room for two days putting up with their bad service! We checked out the same night and did not even get as much as an apology from the hotel!

The front desk service is very good. The resort is very clean and quiet. The breakfast is excellent, but needs more selection. Everything is loveable except for it’s price. It’s pricey, but you do get what you pay for.

Spent one evening here before our long trip home. Our suite was very modern and spacious--frankly, we were sorry not to have more time to spend at the hotel. We had a wonderful dinner at Grei and a equally delightful lunch at Qunu--both are destination restaurants by themselves. The Terrace is a cool indoor/outdoor bar. The staff was friendly and anxious to please--the front desk and concierge were particularly helpful. Check out my photos for more details.

Executive Summary: Incredible hotel, wonderful spa, truly attentive staff, and good (but not exceptional) food. The entire Saxon property - both hotel and villas - is located within a walled compound in the Sandhurst neighborhood of Johannesburg. Once you enter the property, you feel far removed from any city in the lushly planted grounds. We stayed in one of the villas. The rooms was spacious, the bed was great, the amenities and free mini-bar were well-stocked, and the deck faced a park-like section of dense green plants and trees. Very calming and quiet. Our room also came with the personal butler service, which proved handy. He scheduled restaurant reservations, spa treatments and arranged for the car service to the airport. When our flight home was delayed by eight hours, he even arranged for us to be able to stay at no extra charge in our villa until 5 pm, when it was finally time for us to go to the airport. As for the property. The villas are connected to the main hotel area (which includes the restaurants and spa) by a long, modernistic-looking skyway (with elevators at both ends). The main pool area is gorgeous, and has an open-air/covered restaurant and bar adjacent to it. The lobby area is stylish. The spa is incrtedible. Do the rasul (steam room with mud/salt) treatment, as it was great. The rasul room is also nicely done in colorful mosaic tiles. The massage treatments were also good. The Qunu restaurant is nicely designed, and with an incredibly well-trained, high-end server staff. The food itself was fine, but nothing exceptional. This was our stop after the end of a two-week safari game trip, and it was a great way to relax and rejuvenate for 24 hours before the 16-hour flight home.
