Although the apartments hint at luxury and are nicely kitted out, with a great view in rooms on higher floors, the main thing of our experience was the poor quality beds which led to a bad night sleep. Not luxurious at all. The beds creaked, moved and mattresses were uncomfortable. It seems as they only took care of the surface...

Mrs AfricanTravel was on a training course - so I booked Urban Hip so that we would be close to the venue and she could avoid JNB traffic in the mornings and evening. It's something of a strange place - the 'suites' are spacious but the bathroom is very dated, the carpets had burns and stains, the bed was not...

Splice is an anomaly. When I first set eyes on the building I couldn't understand the slew of bad reviews. The structure is architecturally fascinating and obviously took great care to design and build. At a quick glance at the room it was also hard to see the storm of issues Splice had. The apartment was spacious and furnished with...

If you are looking for an extended stay location, this is one of the few options available and at a nice rate. We blended our time for cooking and eating out, nice to have the option to eat in the room when traveling with children. There is no restaurant on premises, but great housekeeping service. We stayed in both unit...

These are apartments and not a hotel, so that's the first thing to understand. Bernard is professional and a gem. The carpets are dirty, the towel have seen better days and are rough and no longer white in colour, the block is really in need of a refresher course, paint and decor. The coffee shop closed down a long time...

This is a interesting hotel/apartment block built in the shape of a ship and open to the air at one end. The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious and everything worked first time. The location is great being near the centre of the city and our view was first-rate. Parking was easy. Do not expect a hotel as much as...

Wouldve walked out at checkin, and I use that term loosely. But we were part of a group in jhb for a 50th party. First unit was shocking, dirty, stained towels and bedding, gaping holes where electric sockets should be closed, all interior applications in dire need of maintenance and attention. Topped by a previous occupant having left manky slippers,...

Splice is almost very nice and if you look at the website you will think it is fantastic. And it isn't all bad but bad enough not to return, especially at the price. A few good points are the large unit (we stayed in a two bedroom apartment), a fairly central location close to the freeway, a nice kitchen for...

I have rented a penthouse long term and whilst this place has potential it is NOTHING like it promises. NO customer service, staff are too afraid of the body corporate to do anything, the chairman runs around screaming like a dictator. Guest are treated like intruders and wherever they can make your life difficult they will. For business they imply...
