A great place to stay that's on the best street in Johannesburg no doubt. The hotel is so unique and the rooms are, I can't even explain. One of the best motels I've stayed in for the price. The wi fi is a little bit expensive but like I said the rooms are absolutely ridiculous and rich with art! It...

Don`t expect all hotel amenities, nor a dedicated time to guests. This a super convinient place to stay at, very cool and trendy. Loved the area and for the type of trip I made it was perfect. They were super helpfull when I forgot my book in the bed and sent it over to my next stop in Cape Town.

I got upgraded to a suite on the top floor upon arrival. I had originally booked a studio. The suite comes with a kitchenette which would be very convenient for a longer stay. My room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The art was interesting (I stayed in the constellations room). What makes this place is the location. The location...

This is the second time we have stayed here and we are just as thrilled with it. The position is perfect for everything in Maboneng, the rooms are large, offering self-catering facilities and each one is a fascinating experience. Great decoration.

Stayed for a couple nights when we first got into JBurg and glad we did. Had the 1946 room and it was amazingly furnished and decorated. Just a few heads up, the parking garage is cramped and crowded, if you are driving a large car or SUV you may find it difficult to maneuver. Also, it is in a very...

A clean, neat hotel that I won't stay at again. The hotel is part of the Urban Hip group of hotels. The room is large. A standard room is about the equivalent size of a bachelor flat. It has a comfortable bed and a full DSTV (cable TV) bouquet. Aircon makes the room bearable when it’s very hot. I liked...

This was my first time to Johannesburg, and I'm not the type to stay in soulless mall hotels, so this was a great choice for me. The hotel is very urban, modern and quirky, as expected. The location is great, with lots of options for bars/restaurants in the few blocks outside the front entrance. As a first-timer, I was cautious...

Our room ('A part love, a part hate 1946-56) was on the 7th floor, and was spacious, clean and comfortable with good bed linen and bespoke furniture. Loved our massive window with city view - we had storms both nights and the lightning show was spectacular. Great shower and toiletries, well equipped kitchen, friendly and efficient staff. The phone in...

This hotel was amazing. The neighborhood is fantastic with nice restaurants, art shops and close to the centre. The room was clean and huge. Very good beds and friendly staff. The only disappointment was that there was no free wifi in the hotel, you need to pay for that.

Kelly whisked me away for a weekend to The 12 Decades as a birthday gift. The hotel rooms are mixed in with "regular" apartments, which makes the feeling more homely. Our room was not one of the 12 decades themed rooms, but it was very comfortable with plenty of room, a big shower. The room was on the 2nd floor...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
With rooms conceptualised by some of South Africa's most celebrated Artists & Designers, 12 Decades traces the history of Johannesburg from 1886- 2006. Each decade has been interpreted by the individual designers to illustrate the most prominent features of the particular decade in Johannesburg's history. 12 Decades is part of the second development in the Maboneng Precinct, meaning “ Place of Light”. The development of this precinct forms part of a city improvement initiative by the development company, Propertuity. The Urban regeneration has been applauded by the City of Johannesburg, and as such, further developments are underway in the precinct, forming part of a vision to breathe new life into the old industrial area in the Eastern CBD.In addition to the 12 designer rooms, there are standard modern luxury hotel apartments for the not so adventurous to choose from. ... more   less
