Great service from airport which is important after a long flight. Room was ok and staff laid back but very smiley and friendly. Evening dinner great value and very tasty. Bar was good and had large tv and pool table. Why no wine on offer? This is South Africa!! Overall not bad at all.

Very friendly and helpful staff - whether to book a tour or ride. Location was convenient to the things we wanted to see in Johannesburg. It was also nice to have the meals at night and stay in with some wine.

Two 20 something females stayed at BSB on three separate bookings and our experience kept getting better. While it is further from the center of the city, we felt that we did not want to leave the hostel after it gets dark due to safety. Luckily, the amazing chef, Lisa, saved us nightly by preparing great food for us for...

Brown Sugar's warmth and hospitality puts you instantly as ease in this big city. It is a BazBus stop which makes ongoing journeys extremely easy when travelling with them. All the staff are lovely and the Mama who cooks good solid home-style meals is very entertaining ! Prices are very reasonable with a dorm bed at 190 Rand, and a...

We recently stayed at Brown Sugar on a school trip with 35 learners. The owner, Liezel, was great in supporting us when our other accommodation fell through. The students had a blast. Very reasonable, great staff and owner and the location did not bother us. I will definitely look no further for accommodation for a group or individual.

This hostel is very cozy and the staff very helpful... If you're going for the backpacker option in Jo'burg (compared to Airbnb) this is a very good option! They also offer free pickup from either the airport or park station. The hostel is within walking distance froim the Eastgate shopping mall... We walked there in half an hour or so.

The venue is really neat as it’s an old mafia’s mansion. The second floor balcony, which is right outside of the female dormitory offers fantastic views of Joburg as the mansion is on a hill. The complimentary breakfast was very good – each guest gets two eggs! The pitfall is that the location is quite far from anything interesting. It...

Thank you for taking the time and review our hostel. Our public transport system is not the greatest but mini busses and UBER is the cheapest way to get around Jo'burg. We are located about 6km from the city centre and due to the fact that Jo'burg is not your typical tourist city, we prefer to be located on the...

Had originally booked one of the large dorms here but were surprised when we arrived that we were given one of the small 6 bed dorms. We later discovered that this was because of a large group of children (11-14 year old students) staying in the larger dorms. This wasn't a huge issue because we were only there for the...

The room was nice and spacious. It felt safe and secure even if my roommate couldn't lock and unlock the door! The bar was nice and staff pleasant. My biggest issue was there was no information about the area and the staff didn't seem to know much either. All we wanted on the first night was an area to go...
