There is only one way to answer a vindictive review such as this one and that is to deal with each allegation separately. They arrived in a foul mood saying that they had had a terrible trip that day. I was sympathetic but am not surprised that they found fault wherever they could. 1. Problem with the pool. a) The guest did not specify, in any of their emails, that the pool was a deciding factor in their choosing to stay at Abigails. To say this is dishonest, to say the least. b) We did apologise for the state of the pool when they arrived but were not given a chance to discuss the matter. c) It is not true that we had known of the problem for two weeks prior to their arrival. The pool motor had a problem prior to Christmas but it was repaired and then another problem arose at the end December and we were badly let down by the Pool Company. 2. The Bedroom Fan. a) We had no idea that the fan made a noise as it had not been reported to us. b) The noise was only audible when the fan was on full and was quiet on the lower speed settings. c) We acknowledge that the noise at the highest speed was not acceptable but their description is ludicrous and used for effect and not for accuracy. d) The fan was repaired the next day. 3. Mosquitoes. a) We are very sorry that their daughter was bitten by mosquitoes, however the windows could have been kept closed if the fan had been used on a lower setting. b) We have not had complaints from other guests about being bitten. c) Once again the descriptive language is just silly, unnecessary and trying to be funny for effect. 4. Drag Racing. a) Once again the language used is ridiculous. There is occasionally noise from traffic at night, but to compare it to drag racing implies that it carries on all night long which is just not true. 5. Bedding for baby daughter. a) The guest, Sofia, phoned at 9:30pm the night before they arrived, spoke to my wife, and the question of the cot for the baby was discussed. We told her that we had a camp cot and she offered to bring their own cot bedding. My wife thought that this was a good idea as she was in bed after an operation and it would save her from having to get up to arrange it. We definitely did not tell her to “better bring my own sheet for my baby daughter to sleep on” she initially made the offer. b) There was also a second bed in the children’s room that could have been used, or the bedding from it could have been used. 6. Leaving Early. a) The guests did leave early but refused to discuss the matter with us. b) They did mention the pool, the fan and the mosquitoes but would not discuss anything. c) They did send one email which we had not had a chance to answer before the review was posted. On arrival we asked them to make sure that the garden gate was kept closed for the safety of the animals on the property. They then deliberately kept leaving the gate open once they had decided to leave. If the guests are honest and remember, when they were shown into their rooms they were specifically asked to bring any problems to our attention immediately, and not later when it is impossible to do anything about it. We are responsible and concerned hosts and, as such, would not have been upset if we were woken at midnight with a serious problem with mosquitoes, which could have been solved very quickly. The comparison of Abigails to “Clico Boutique Hotel” is unfair and just a cheap trick. We have never been a 5 star establishment and as such do not charge 5 star prices. The Clico charges at least twice what we do. We are conscientious hosts who try and cater diligently for the needs of our guests. As with any accommodation establishment we do occasionally fall down but we do not deserve a vindictive review such as this which is greatly exaggerated and not totally honest.
