I stayed two nights recently at the Diamond Diggers Hostel on my way home to Australia. Firstly, I appreciated all the help given to me by staff to make me feel safe. My train from Cape Town was six hours late and Bert the manager arranged for me to be collected at the station. The hostel is in an area... More

I really cant understand how people can say " an oasis inthe middle of the city" - " cool " not even an OK fit this place! I went there a few years ago and not only the place itself, but the whole staff ( but Momade) was terrible. The owners were super rude and had that look " well,... More

This place seemed like it had lacked care and attention for a few years (the advertising leaflets were at least 4 years old). We had our kids there, so we were sensitive to the kitchen being pretty grubby. The bathroom was clean enough. But we had the dormitory downstairs, which was a partially converted bar area, with the bar still... More

Johannesburg is a place I'd rather just pass through, so if you're looking for a place to stay for a few nights that offers drop-offs at the airport & bus station, this place is not bad. Otherwise nothing special - not particularly friendly, average cleanliness. Like most places in Johannesburg, I avoided going out the gates, especially on the road... More

Diamond Diggers has a really nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is free internet and a computer to use as well as a well-stocked kitchen with everything you'd need to prepare a meal. My boyfriend and I payed to stay in the dorm but because there was a triple-dorm available they put us in there and didn't... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. The owner smoked weed and drank beer most of the time I saw him which didn't make a good impression. The place was almost empty and the internet was very slow. I didn't see anywhere you could put your valuables when you went out, which didn't do anything because it was empty anyway. When I... More

There is all you need pool, tv lounge, kitchen, dining room etc. Spar is located 2 km from the hostel but there is other supermarked close by! Internet i quite fast!

I'm surprised by the bad reviews of this place and am wondering if it has since been renovated or been under new management. I thought it was a clean, well maintained, quiet place to stay, and this is coming from someone who is quite particular about the cleanliness of her accommodation. I stayed here for 3 nights, and it was... More

When I first came here a few months ago I said I'm coming back - and I enjoyed Diamond Diggers once again. Being Summer I used the pool - and sauna - and, they now have free wifi ! They are close to the city for those wanting to catch the sightseeing bus and are on the route between the... More

I didn't feel like going to the supermarkets supposed to be nearby, on account of security. I didn't see any emerging risk, but there were nobody walking on the streets. So I would suggest that the hostel could offer phone numbers of restaurants that deliver food there at night! Important to say that I was travelling without a car, and... More
