About

#9 of 54 B&Bs / Inns in Benoni
Welcome to MoAfrika Lodge. MoAfrika literally means 'African People' in the language of the local Sotho populace, the original inhabitants of the Highveld. Your host, Anthony, has skillfully created a unique lodge in which an African theme induces a warm welcome for guests. Set on a 8000 square metre land through which a stream flows, MoAfrika Lodge provides a rustic and tranquil setting where guests can unwind in a relaxed and country atmosphere. Why book yourself into a Hotel or Guest Houses when you can stay here at MoAfrika Lodge? MoAfrika Lodge has evolved from Anthony's place which has been operating since 2006. MoAfrika Lodge offers comfortable and stylish accommodation. Our rooms are spacious and are tastefully decorated in a truly African style. A large dining room and lounge flow unobtrusively into the cosy bar area. Guests may unwind around our sparkling swimming pool and enclosed wooden deck. MoAfrika Lodge is very conveniently situated less than 10km from Johannesburg Airport, O.R Tambo.

If you love animals PLEASE do not stay here, this was one of the most traumatic things I have ever witnessed. Stayed here two nights before an Acacia trip as this was where the tour departed from. However, I would not recommend anyone or Acacia to support this lodge. As stated in other reviews the dogs here are not cared for at all. Covered in flees, ticks, barely fed any food and are not neutered. These dogs have litter after litter of puppies that are left out in the freezing cold at night with no food and barely any water. The puppies that were there when I stayed were clearly old enough to be on solids but were not given any food at all during the whole two days I was there (I know as I spent all my time with them) and the mother was thrown one morning only what could be described as a sheep stomach or something of the sort. These puppies are starving and left in the daily heat and unfortunately this resulted in the death of one puppy. This puppy was in amongst the bushes out of sight but the smell was revolting and flies everywhere. To understand how hungry these poor puppies are, they started to eat the dead puppy!!!! Of course I straight away informed Andrew - who I was told was in charge and he simply laughed at me and carried on doing his paper work. I cannot believe this horrible man, I clearly showed my distress and anger at the situation but he refused to do anything about it, and instead our tour guide (nothing to do with MoAfrika) had to dispose of the poor little puppy. On top of this there is a black female dog there who is obviously very scared of people especially men. I asked another worker why this was the case, and was told that Andrew had beaten the dog for once entering inside the property. On another occasion the male dog (father of the puppies) growled at the puppies for getting to close to him and Andrew repeatedly laughed and said 'go on eat them' to the dog. I repeatedly told him to not act in such a way, but he couldn't have cared less. This man is appalling and has no kindness in his heart for any animal. He should not be allowed to run this place when the owner is away I will be contacting the manager of MoAfrika directly, as well as Acacia to discourage them from using this lodge. I encourage the lodge to dismiss Andrew who I can only describe as an animal abuser and to take responsibility of your animals by taking them to the vets and GETTING THEM NEUTERED!!!! Ohhh... and if you were still considering staying at this lodge consider that: - There were ants everywhere in the room, including on the bed - Barely everything on the menu was out of stock and you would easily wait up to an hour for some fries, but you have no other choice as there is nothing else near by! - The door from the bathroom to the outside would not lock as they had 'lost the key' which did not make me feel very safe when staying on my own.

Pros: Room large and beds comfortable. Cons: Did not get given a key to the room and had to go and ask for it. The sliding door required two people to lock (one to turn the key & one to push heavily on the door so it actually went in). When we told the front desk, he said he would come and check it but did not move an inch and did not check the door at any point. Bathroom door did not shut. Shower was literally a trickle of water down the wall. Did not have toilet paper in the room and had to go and ask for it. Dogs on the property had ticks, fleas and sores, but were friendly. Not worth the price for the private room.

Where to possibly start…. If you are in the Johannesburg area and are looking for a beautiful, affordable, and hospitable option for accommodation, look no further!!!! I can’t possibly explain how amazing the people were at MoAfrika, but I’ am going to try. I’m from the US, I’m a female in my mid 20’s and was traveling alone… I had used a travel agency to book my accommodation’s (he screwed me over completely don’t use BlueChili EVER, A WHOLE REVIEW COMING ON THAT) only to arrive at Moafrika and find out I had no reservation that had been booked and my safari to Kruger National Park wasn’t booked either (he was paid in full, but never made my reservations). I flew half way across the world to experience Africa, which included at the top of the list a SAFARI. So here I am alone, no phone, no reservation, no safari at MoAfrika, crying, scared, and beyond upset. Corrie from MoAfrika is literally an angel, I could never begin to even express my gratitude towards this amazing woman! She went above and beyond for some girl who had been screwed over by the travel agency she had used and handled the whole issue for me. MoAfrika was COMPLETLEY full, she figured a way out in order for me to stay because she couldn’t let some girl who was completely, alone, scared and upset leave. For that I’ am eternally grateful to her. If it wasn’t for their commitment to their customers and love for their job my trip could have been a complete and total disaster. I was so fortunate to have met these wonderful people who went above and beyond for me! MoAfrika will always be the place I recommend to anyone and everyone thinking of going to Africa. I have never encountered people who care as much as they did anywhere else in the world. So please if you are looking for a place in Johannesburg check out MoAfrika they are the definition of hospitality. I will be back to see my friends there, and this time I’ll book direct. Thank you to ALL at Moafrika for salvaging my trip!.

The lodge is situated in a quiet area approximately 15 minutes from the airport: great for a pre- or post accommodation to your safari tour. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful and they provide a range of good tours as well. Great lodge if you want to stay outside the bustle of central Jo'burg.
