This was our first stop on our trip along the garden route & vineyards, and what a great start to our trip. Periwinkle is located just across from the beach, and a short drive from town where there are plenty of great restaurants. It's also conveniently located to walk the Robberg peninsular. The staff at the lodge were friendly and very helpful, and organised inexpensive taxis for us to eat out each night. Our room was lovely and had a balcony to sit out. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. Recommended.

A beautifully designed (we gather the owner is an architect) boutique hotel in a drop-dead gorgeous location (although bear in mind you need a car/taxi to get to the restaurants in Plet practically speaking) overlooking the stunning bay. Wonderful service from all the staff - particularly Wings - and a lovely room with balcony with terrific sea views.

We stayed here as one of the destinations from our South Africa trip. This place turned out to be the top destination. Very close to the sea side and at the outskirts of the little town of Plettenberg. The place is sparkling clean and offers a great service level. The view from the terrace is just stunning. Food overall is great, the breakfast is the best we had so far. Staff is very friendly and in the afternoon they serve freshly made cake and a glass of wine. Very close to 2 nice Golf courses and some excellent restaurants we would always come back here. A special thank you goes to Richard, the manager. We had during the load shedding a break in into our car. With his help we managed to get a replacement car, the police passed by and he drove us to the rental car station and stayed with us until we were off safely. Thanks a lot Richard and everyone at the Lodge.

Dear Anne & Peter, Thank you for your valued feedback, I do apologise for the unfortunate event that took place during our Load Shedding. It was my absolute pleasure in assisting you with the exchange of your car and the all the follow ups, that went so smoothly. I trust you did enjoy the balance of your stay in South Africa, and I hope we can welcome you back to the lodge s in the near future. Kindest Regards. Richard

As our first stop on a tour of Southern Africa, Periwinkle lodge was a peaceful haven in a beautiful location on Robberg beach overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Our large and comfortable room had French doors out to a terrace overlooking the sea where we gazed out to the Robberg peninsula and the Tsitsikamma mountains towering around the bay. For first time visitors to Africa, “Plett” as it is known felt a lot less like the dark continent and much more like a genteel seaside resort in West Sussex. Except of course for the seals and dolphins playing in the ocean, the sparkling white sand and the tropical sunshine 😎. But falling asleep and waking again to the soothing sounds of the waves lapping on the beach was a simple delight. Our room in the lodge was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom that even had under heated floor if required. Breakfast was a delight, served on another terrace overlooking the ocean. A buffet of fresh fruit, yogurt, cheeses and pastries is followed with a range of cooked breakfasts . Full English, omelettes, eggs benedict and French toast - we tried them all and without exception they were delicious! Apart from relaxing on the beach (surfing is excellent if that’s your thing) the Robberg nature reserve nearby is outstanding. There are three trails that can be taken, with the longest being 10km around the whole peninsula. The first part of the trail goes high above the water looking down onto colonies of fur seals and sea birds. Whales and dolphins and sometimes sharks can also be seen in the water below. Rounding the point you can sit close to the water and watch the seals porpoising around the edge of the rocks. Then the trail becomes a bit of a scramble across the rocks before it heads back to a sheltered cove where you can paddle or break the walk with a quick swim. You need about four hours to complete the trail which is quite hard going in places so bring your boots and plenty of water. But it’s a beautiful trek and not to be missed. Lots of good restaurants nearby in Plett. The Fat fish serves great seafood while the lookout is a more casual beach front restaurant serving great burgers and local beer. We also ate at the 1777 restaurant in the rectory hotel which is elegant and refined and serving delicious food. If you are driving the garden route, make sure to stop in Plett and you cannot find a better place to stay than the Periwinkle lodge.
