Enjoy your stay in Whittier!
This building is very old, run-down, and dirty. Don't be mislead by the marketing. You are basically staying in someone's year-round apartment. And, importantly, this is NOT a smoke-free building. If the owner of the apartment unit (aka "condo suite") smokes, you will have a room that smells like smoke. Stay at The Inn at Whittier instead -- they are top notch! Or, there are nice lodging options in nearby Girdwood or Alyeska. Cannot rate sleep quality in this review because our 'condo suite' smelled so terribly we had to find alternative lodging.
On arrival we went to June’s apartment as instructed only to find she wasn’t there and had gone away for the weekend. There was a note to call two different numbers but coming from Australia we didn’t have an American sim to use. A man walking past let us use his phone but neither of the numbers provided by June answered. We were getting very stressed out then someone was able to find June’s number and call her. She gave us the code to the room so we could enter and said someone would be up soon to give us our parking pass. 2 hours later the parking pass finally arrived. We were stuck in the room the whole time waiting for it. Also the rate I was asked to pay was $10 a night dearer than the booking paperwork I had received. All in all check in took about 3 hours!!! The building and room is old and dated. I would save all the check in hassle and just pay extra to stay at The Inn it looks significantly nicer and June’s suites are very expensive for what you get. On the positive side WiFi and location are good and the view from our room was fantastic.…
Excellent customer service. Above and beyond what you would expect! Typical Alaskan hospitality! Authentic Alaska. This is what a small town in Alaska is all about. Excursions, views and the authintisity of what it's all about! Best deal around. Go fishing and feel like you live there!
I was getting off a cruise at 7am and had to teach an online class. There was no clear place for me to do this in Whittier. Miss June allowed me to use one of her suites for a very reasonable fee. The place was cozy and delightful and she couldn't have been nicer.
6 of us stayed here. We were on the 15th floor at the top of the building that most of the people in Whittier live in. June was great and met us when we arrived a provided a very nice breakfast basket. . She gave us recommendations on where to walk, and where to eat dinner. She also shared some history of Whittier along with her enthusiasm. And from our windows we could see the whole town so June could just point to the places she recommended. The condo we rented for a night was perfect for the 6 of us. It is a historic building, so things are old, but in good repair. No air conditioning, but there were fans. It was comfortable. Parking is included. I would highly recommend it.
