Spent a random one night, B&B at the pub on Saturday. Pub really busy, but didn't hear a sound once in our room. Very comfy night and amazing breakfast. Glyn and Alison had taken over the place only a few days ago. Very professional, they've done it before! Wishing them good luck with their family venture. Didn't have dinner this... More

Popped in to The Castle after a funeral service nearby. Whilst there was some great live music, the whole experience was spoilt by poor bar service. Two barmaids were slow to serve, couldn't raise a please or thank you, nor a smile between them. Everything seemed like it was too much trouble. As a retired landlord, I would say they... More

We stayed in the Castle in December whilst attending a wedding near by. The room was really beautiful with beamed ceilings. Beautifully crisp clean bedding, and lovely decor. the pub itself was really cosy. Lovely staff. We stayed for the cavery lunch on our check out day. Food was great. Would highly recommend, and would definitely stay there again if... More

We had the loft/ triple room. All very nice. No noise from pub. but stairs up from the open door from at the back of hotel so a bit drafty in March. Exceptional cooked breakfast, served with TLC and a dash of flair. Nice staff all round. To be honest the room could do with a birthday but otherwise warmly recommended

Stayed at the Castle Inn having failed to find any other accommodation open or under £100. What a fabulous treat to find ourselves with a 4 poster bed, crisp clean white sheets, an array of teas, coffee, biscuits a small gift box of chocolates and potions for the bath. The bar was lively and warm, a roaring fire was a... More

Another great pub in the Newport area. We ate in the bar as there was a Christmas do on in the restaurant. Hubby had the fish and chips I had the lamb shank. We both enjoyed our meals, especially the great selection of vegetables that arrived with the meals. A bit pricey but I think the area generally is. Two... More

My boyfriend and me are travelling around in Wales and found this Inn lately in the afternoon. The room we've got is gorgeous as well as the food served in the restaurant where a very nice and attentive waiter served incredibly delicious dishes. We are looking forward to the breakfast tomorrow. Especially after having a good nights sleep in this... More

My husband and I called in for Sunday lunch. It was carvery, plates small, food luke warm, everything swimming in cream, butter and oil. The gravy was very thin and everything lacked seasoning. Don't waste you money, much better food in the Golden lion down the road.

1st impressions: dingy bar, musty bedroom. Chose triple room "with seaview" over quadruple room without (that was the choice - travelling solo). Seaview more a view of the roofs of Newport, with some sea in the distance. No shower, no desk or dressing table. Small cheap sounding TV. Broken lamp still plugged into the wall. Room in eaves so really... More

We are so sorry that the broken lamp was missed by our staff, this has now been removed and replaced. In regard to the pub bring dingy, it is a 200 year old character pub with lots of charm which is normally enjoyed by our customers. We note that you were offered our other rooms but chose the attic room... More

We booked this Inn as a pet friendly overnight stopover so only stayed here for the one night but would have no problem in staying here again. The staff made us and our dog welcome and our room was a good size, clean and comfortable, Unfortunately not blown away by our food but it was ok and reasonably priced for... More
