We went there with my husband and our 2 kids (7 and 9) and we all had the best of times. The staff is mega friendly and always there for everyone's needs; they organised wonderful visits for us with amazing locals. The food was delicious. The accomodation is great: we stayed in a garden bungalow, no air con but still very comfortable with fans if needed. If you go to Fakarava, just go to the Havaiki Lodge, 100%! You cannot be disappointed!
No four-stars hotel in Fakarava, just some small lodging places and then you have the Havaiki lodge, on the main islet, at the north shore. Attracted by photos of a friend of mine who visited a few months before, I decided to spend the new year week-end there. It was just great... Great spot, nice small bungalows set on a beautiful beach, tables with seats in the water by the beach for lunch (just have to choose the side where the sharks do not come for a friendly visit). Great food, mostly fish dishes, lots of activities available, and it was easy to tour the island with the bikes provided by the Hawaiki Lodge. It was just the perfect week-end...
Ok. First im writing this based on the type of travelers were are. We love remote. Simple. Local. There are no Four Seasons on Fakarava. This place is the ultimate in chill. Staff super friendly. Beach amazing. Food really good ( note: you're on Fakarava, not NYC). Spent a week here and was in total heaven. Tip: Beach bungalow 100%. Not only AC, but a mini fridge. There is no food or drink from 2-5 everyday. Anywhere. We were in B6. With some foliage around. B0-5. Straight on the beach. We preferred ours with some afternoon shade. If you want to chill in paradise, this is it. If you want the Four Season's, go to Bora Bora.
For the amount of money you pay to stay here, you’d expect a decent level of customer service but the staff was rude from reception to the manager. I was told it’s “hard to get things done on a Sunday,” and when I tried to ask for the manager on Monday at 10am, she hadn’t even showed up to work yet. Also, keep in mind the only accommodation with aircon are the Oceanside villas. Make sure you don’t get stuck in the janitors closet (the “villa” by reception)
Stayed here two nights. The location is great and the beach is even better. The rooms were better than we expected. Excluding the ants, it was all fine. The food was OK, just not to our liking, but that doesn't make it bad. Fun to hop on a bike and go for a cruise. Not many spoke English so hard to communicate, but again not their fault. It did seem hard at times to locate hotel rep to talk to, but overall all was good and would recommend.
This hotel is a hidden gem. With an excellent and delicious half board meal plan. It’s located in a quiet and beautiful beach. The perfect place to disconnect. Maia and the rest of the staff are extremely helpful and professional. We will be back! Maria Teresa and Carlos
We were picked up from the airport and given flower leis, then taken to the lodge and shown to our rooms, then given juice and information about tours on offer for our stay. We stayed 6 nights in a beachfront bungalow with air con. Facilities were really good in the rooms, with a kettle, mini fridge, small bathroom with a shower, and a small deck with chairs. The bungalow was very private (B7) with trees and bushes surrounding it. Outside our rooms were a table, chairs and sun beds. The beach is beautiful and untouched, and the snorkel area is great with lots of fish and beautiful coral. Free kayaks and bicycles were on offer. Drinking water is free - there are two water stations outside the front and back of the restaurant where you can fill your bottles. Breakfast was good, with croissants, bread, baguette, cheeses, jams, fresh fruit, meats, and cereals on offer, and fruit juices. The snack bar was open for lunches, with things like cheeseburgers, French fries and chicken nuggets. Dinner was very good. The 3 course menu for each evening was put on the board each morning. The staff were very accomodating with a vegetarian in our group, and none of us eating fish or seafood. They cooked something different for us every night, and everything was cooked to a good standard. We booked 3 tours through the lodge, all which were very good. The lady at reception spoke very good English. Would definitely recommend a snorkel trip to the south pass, and to the coral garden near the north pass. Snorkelling is amazing here, hundreds of sharks and lots of fish! There is free wifi - it was slow but enough to use messenger to send photos and make calls…
On a cruise with Aranui we rented bikes and rolled down to the Havaiki to spend the day. Great beaches, bars, restaurants, but the highlight was the pearl farm, where for a few bucks you could choose your oyster and they would release your treasure inside for you ... a true experience and super beautiful - made a little film about it so you can see - link in my bio.
perfekt in organisation and handling ... rooms are clean and comfortable, food is outstanding good, service is good staff is very friendly and helpful ... all in all an outstanding place to stay, highly to recommend !
My partner and I stayed at Havaiki three nights. We spent one night in a Beach Bungalow and then two nights in a Garden Bungalow. This is because Havaiki was booked out - months in advance. And, no wonder it is very popular and the Garden Bungalow in particular was terrific value for money, especially for French Polynesia. Even in Australian dollars, the room was very reasonable. The bungalows are quite spacious. The food and facilities are great. Terrific snorkelling right off the beach. A fun beach snack place for lunch, and good food for breakfast and dinner in the main building. Great service from the two women who work at reception - sorry I did not get their names. They are particularly helpful for English speaking guests. We want to go back for a week at Havaiki, but we know we have too book early !…
