New York City, New York112 contributions43 helpful votes

Let me preface this review by saying I’m FAR from a high roller in the corporate, entertainment or sports worlds…instead, just a blue collar civil servant in New York City. Four years ago I started putting away 80 American Dollars from each paycheck…and increased that amount thereafter, as I paid off other expenses in my life (mainly college loans). As a result I saved enough to surprise my wife with our dream vacation to celebrate our 10-Year Wedding Anniversary (she literally didn’t find out until we reached the departure gate at LAX). As a 38-year-old husband, with three children (7 years old and younger) and a mortgage…if I can do it, you can too! Real talk. As for the resort… Unless God blesses me again, I probably won’t be back, due to financial limitations. But it won’t be for lack of desire. As the song says, “when you’ve only got 100 years to live,” you have to make it here once…no matter how long it takes! As nearly all the reviews state…the location of the resort is undeniably perfect. The water, view of Mt. Otemanu, villas and property as a whole are incredible. I looked at hundreds of pictures ahead of time and it was still breathtaking in person. I booked a beach view villa (204) with a private infinity pool on the back deck. I paid the same amount for this villa that I would have for a villa with NO pool, had I booked at the four seasons. So that’s what swayed me and seemed like a no brainer. It was. The private pool was fantastic and we used it every day. The ocean water near our villa only came up to my stomach area (I’m six feet tall), so you could walk for large stretches of it. But we spoke with other guests who said the water was 7 feet deep or so near their villas, and they could jump in. You could NOT jump in where we were or you’d get hurt. The villas are equipped with a Sonos speaker, mounted up high in your living room. This was CLUTCH. There are instructions on how to connect to it on one of the welcome menus when you turn on the tv. I synced it with my iPod and was able to play my music while relaxing or getting ready. It was a vibe. I even brought my own small bluetooth speaker for use on the back deck, when we were in the pool or in the ocean water around our villa. Set the mood for sure. It’s expensive to eat, drink and do activities there. There’s no way around it. I included the breakfast plan with our booking and feel it’s the best bang for your buck. The breakfast (at Reef) is buffet style, the options are plentiful (including an omelette station) and the food is good. I advise eating a hearty breakfast so that you don’t have to purchase a traditional lunch every day, but can snack or skip it altogether. Then you’ll only have to spend for dinner at one of their restaurants. We had a Polynesian buffet one dinner at Reef and ate at Sands the rest of our lunch/dinner meals. Never sampled the third restaurant (Le Corail). I only like shrimp, crab and lobster when it comes to seafood, so my options were more limited than some guests may be. But from what we did eat, the food was good and have no complaints in that department. Though be prepared for coconut to be a major flavor staple in many of their dishes. And for me, that’s not my thing. I don’t like that they charge you for water even if you ask for still water. You have to specify “tap water” otherwise they’ll bring you bottled water and it’ll end up on your bill. While we booked through concierge, the only excursion we did was a jeep tour/snorkeling experience that’s run by an outside company. It’s an all day thing, so you’re gone from morning until about 4:00p or so. It was great. We learned a lot about the island and visited some nice locations on the jeep tour (tremendous views) and even saw some cannons. Then we swam with black tip sharks, sting rays and after some exotic fish in another location (coral gardens). The sharks/sting rays were a first for us and truly exhilarating. They take you to a restaurant (Bloody Mary’s) and your meal is included in the price of the trip. The total is roughly 365 American Dollars for two. Strongly recommend. On the resort, we got a romantic over the water couples massage at their spa. Once again, pricey (roughly 593 American Dollars for two), but we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It includes a bottle of champagne and jet tub soak beforehand. We also went early to enjoy their amenities for an hour or two before our massage even started. It’s like a compound back there (steam room, cold plunge, other tubs, tea room, yoga-type room, etc.). Do if you feel so inclined. Finally, we did the private beach dinner our last night. The location, the presentation and setup are top notch. The food is good too. But they take FOREVER between every step/course of the evening. I mean, I’m talking 20-30 min. I know it’s it suppose to be a relaxing/intimate evening, but the wait time in between it all is EXCESSIVE. I did it because it was our 10 year wedding anniversary and we had a private beach dinner on our original honeymoon in Aruba. So this was bringing things full circle and nostalgic for us. But overall, my wife and I felt it was NOT worth the near 600 American Dollar price tag. I cannot recommend. Do try and wake up early at least one day and walk over to the reef side to watch the sun rise. Not only was it great in person, but I took a time lapse of it on my phone and it looks dope. I bought inflatable tubes ahead of time, packed them and inflated them when we arrived in order to float around. I also bought a padlock beforehand and packed it to put in their lock of love - secret garden. Remember to write on it ahead of time, but if not, the gift shop has a permanent marker on hand. SUGGESTION: The flight time from LAX to Bora Bora is almost 9 hrs. So if you have the means to fly business or first class, do it. Being able to make a bed and sleep on the flight makes the travel and transition much easier. Especially if you’re coming from the East Coast, because you’ll be taking 3 planes and a boat to get there. Don’t be scared off. It’s STILL well worth it.

Hotel's Favorite
Our stay for our ten year anniversary was unbelievable at IHC Bora Bora. When we arrived on the property, we were greeted by the friendly and accommodating staff and management. Walking into our over water bungalow was absolutely one of the best experiences I have ever had. The property is amazing. Modern and updated everything. The villas are luxury and made us feel as though we were staying in a luxury apartment over the water and the private plunge pool is a must! Our favorite part of the entire stay was the private dinner that the hotel put on for us in the lagoon. Hands down, I think this experience is a must for anyone who is staying here. There are plenty of amenities on property (non motorized activities, spa, gym, pool) and there is no reason to leave the property. The restaurants and dining experiences were great as well. Lastly, I have to sing the praises of management for making our stay absolutely fantastic. Specifically Sergey was very helpful and just amazing at making sure we had a great time. A very sincere thank you to Sergey and all staff at IHC Bora Bora from us. We will be back!!!

My wife and I celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the InterContinental. Every part was first class all the way- from the time you step off the boat to the time you leave. The place is fantastic- clean, spacious, and the view every time you wake up is amazing looking out over the water to Mt. Otemanu. My wife has particular food preferences, and Irene was attentive to her needs so that she loved every meal. The tuna was spectacular. Then, the pool is fantastic, however, Toto who worked at the pool went above and beyond- he was our photographer ( he knew all the best places to take the pics) as well as making a hat and purse from palm fronds for my wife. Every one you encounter is beyond friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was always a perfect mix of everything and we never left hungry. As divers, having TopDive on the property was also very convenient. Hinetea at the concierge was always willing and extremely helpful as we had booked previous tours that were canceled and had to be rescheduled. She was able to reschedule our whale watching tour which was one of the most epic experiences. The only thing I would not recommend was the sunset cruise- too much wasted. time. Overall can't say enough about the amazing people and the place.

My big family and I just had an unforgettable stay at the InterContinental Resort Thalasso Spa and absolutely loved it! We received a free upgrade, free breakfast and a welcome gift as ambassador. Everything was amazing from the overwater villa to the food, the pool, the views and the staff. Everyone was so kind, helpful and Knowledgeable. They seemed to know what I needed before I did. Housekeeping leaves nice messages on our mirror every day. Breakfast buffet was excellent. My kids like unlimited ice cream and golf cart can take you anywhere in the resort There was a lot of entertainment, activities to do and also a lot of areas where you could relax and just enjoy the beach and the view. There was also a lagoon that was great for snorkeling, a spa, and the best view of Mount Otemanu! The snorkeling private boat tour we booked was great, we swam with tons of black tip reef sharks and stingrays, enjoyed the waterslide on the ocean and saw many dolphins jump out of the ocean.  It was absolutely one of the best and unforgettable experiences we have ever had. Specifically Rita was very helpful and amazing at making sure we had a great time. We sincerely thank all the staff at Thalasso. We definitely would be back again!!!

Everything was amazing from the overwater villa to the food, the pool, the views and the staff. Fantastic. Everything was great. OWB was awesome. Spacious with plenty of room for our family. Loved it. You cannot ignore the beauty of Bora Bora and Thalasso has the best view of the mountain. However, the staff really made our stay that much more enjoyable. Everyone was kind, helpful and seemed happy. How could you not feel wonderful when staying in such an atmosphere? Also, there were plenty of staff readily available to help you with whatever you needed. They seemed to know what I needed before I did :D Housekeeping leaves nice details - including treats every night for our child and nice messages on our mirror every day. Only issue was food. Not a lot of choice and not a lot of vegetarian options. Quite expensive. I’m in California and travel a lot to Hawaii and I immediately became aware of just how expensive food is in FP. Beware of the $9.00 scoop (as in one… single!) of simple vanilla ice cream. I appreciated the individual personal tongs for the breakfast buffet. Oh and the omelette chef is super nice and friendly as well.

Fabulous property - great design and large villas, all over the water. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Helpful getting reservations for activities or restaurants on the main island. Only downside is no good snorkeling off the hotel - but this seems to be a theme for most of the motu 5-star hotels.

This place surpassed all our expectations. We love the water. But from the reception, the concierge, the restaurants, all the staff - it was amazing and we felt so welcome. The bungalow (Sapphire) was over the top. Over 1000 sq feet of comfort. A special shout-out to Heitaire, the restaurant manager. She made us feel so special. It was a fantastic getaway; a retreat from the world and all it's craziness. We didn't want to leave!

The resort is incredible. I recommend if you can to get a over the water bungalow and a pool on the deck. I do recommend bringing your own drinks to enjoy poolside, if you get your one with your room. To be able to enjoy that was one of the greatest experiences ever. The restaurants are great.
